Less than 6 months. They don't want to reveal the story and the game isn't about being SUPER balanced so they're manly looking for bugs I'd assume. Should only be maybe 4 months or so IMO.

Beta will be all PvP or the first half of the first act. Or both. I'm sure they want to get the first parts of the game right so that new players really get addicted right away.
I am fairly confident that the beta will no focus on PvP. They have said numerous times that balancing PvP will be impossible. So, why spend 6 months balancing it and not spending the time perfecting the PvE which is the focus of the game.

Any technical ppl in here, have an off topic question for you: a friend of mine has registerd me for the beta with his system specs 'cause for some reason the 'system-check' thingy wont upload my system specs to blizz account page. So now he and i have both applied for beta but with same pc-specs. Assuming blizz want as many different pc-builds testing their game, i wont stand a chance of getting in the beta this way.
running win7 pro 64bit, tried running it in administrator mode and several compatibility modes. nothing works. I think my router's firewall is blocking the system check from uploading the info. (windows firewall has been set up to allow all conections for the system check). :'( bye bye beta
on topic: less then 6 months pretty plz

Well for our StarCraft II opt-in beta participants we do have a program that they need run that collects some basic system information. Central processing units, random access memories, vidjuh card, what have you. And when we send out keys we can look at everyone's specs and choose who to send invites to. Some of that is definitely ensuring that people can even run the game, sure, but some of it is also targeting specific hardware regardless of performance for testing reasons.
So yeah, we want to make sure people can run the game before we invite them. We may also want to throw more invites at some specific piece of hardware for testing. We also have special invites and keys that are given away for contests, attending BlizzCon, etc. and it's probably pretty likely that a Diablo III beta would follow pretty closely with all of these things.
I say less than 6 months. I just can't see six months' worth of testing with limited PvE and PvP. PvP will probably require premade characters. PvE will probably be a new character restricted to specific areas in the game. Either way it's very limited. SC2 was 6 months, but that was for an esport. After about 3 months, SC2 was balanced enough for fun. Diablo 3 doesn't need more than 3 months for PvP. However, one situation could be where they start the beta with PvP for 3 months and then do another 3 months with PvE. That's really the only way I can see them stretching it out for the full length.
I hate the way you cling to ignorance and pass it off as innocence
