Now that we know 3v3 will be our ranked matches and the only match up that is balanced! I have some questions for you?
a}Who will you decide to battle with? Why have you chosen these classes?
b}What is going to be the most dominant team?
c}Witch team will be the weakest?
A.
My 3v3 team will be based around the Monk and Barb. Barbarians have the power to demand attention if you dont deal with them they will kill you and Monks on the other hand are a nightmare for ranged class. Because im rolling a Demon Hunter I will switch between the Wizard or Witch Doctor for my 3rd class.
1] Monk burst damage/distraction, Wizard slow/crowed control, Demon Hunter traps/speed.
2] Barb killing power/killing power, Witch Doc dot damage/distraction, Demon Hunter crowed control/burst damage.
B.
Build like Barb, Monk, and Wizard I feel will be hard to beat because of the high dps and utility of the wizard. the Wizard can deal damage across the board while using skills like Hydra -Creates a multi-headed Hydra that attacks your enemies with bolts of fire, dealing Fire damage per attack for X seconds. for crowed control.
Another team to look out for is dual monk with a DH/Doc. (Monk,Monk,DH/Doc.) The combo damage of a monk can make you think twice when he can use Hands of Lightning (Combo Skill) -Unleashes a series of increasingly powerful lightning-infused punches that deal a percentage of weapon damage as Lightning damage, and has an increased chance to interrupt enemy attacks. All that power in up front will make you forget about the ranged eating you away in the back.
C.
The only thing i can think of is ranged heavy builds 3X DH, 3X Wizards, or 3X Doc. It just does not seem like these types of build will be very successful in arenas. If they meat up agents 3X Barb, 3X Monk, or an basic 3X class combo they are done, in my opinion.
How would a 3X Barb. work against a basic 3X class combo? Food for thought tell me what you think?
There are no "counters" in diablo.
Meaning Barb > Wizard, or Monk > Demon Hunter doesn't exist, otherwise they make up for a very very... bad game
Same reason why there is no healing class. Every hero is a kick ass and the best they can be.
3 vs 3 will not necessarily come down to class but more of a strategy based. Although, mixing classes are good at times, it can also hurt you in some ways. We can't say anything about how 3 v 3 is going to work but all I know is... it will be VERY gear dependent. No matter what combination of class you have, one demon Hunter could potentially destroy the entire team if he has amazing gear compared to his enemies.
I don't think there is going to be much strategy involved in 3 vs 3, especially when each round is going to end under 30 seconds, or 1 minute at most. It will be mostly be kill first or lose.
So maximum damage output rather than high defense.
There may not be entire classes that just counter another class, but certain builds will probably counter others, i.e. a slowing/kiting Wizard would hypothetically beat a Barbarian that doesn't have enough skills to break stuns and slows.
well in diablo2 ifyou had a 4v4 of 4 barbs vs like 4 amazons. I'm sure the amazons would win (Speaking on classic terms with no enigma) The barbs would need some increased movement speed. Although there area of fighting is practicly limitless. Also it all depends on the skills. I mean in D2 amazons kinda shot guided arrows with knockback to annoy the living hell out of you especially if y our melee triyng to get close. So your situations of 3 ranged vs 3 barbs and barbs slaughtering is probably not accurate. Since Demon hunters have a snare and traps and stuff to deal out damabe before the barbs even reach them.

I think all teams will be viable, In wow(rah rah it is the best reference for this) 3's nearly always have a healer, a cc, and a main dps. In D3 there all going to cc in someway and do damage, so i think almost any combo is viable. I do however think all ranged or all melee comps are going to be weak as they will be limited with by the variety of skills they can contribute.
To answer your question i like the idea of a Barb DH Wiz Combo.

You are contradicting your self. Strategy is a big part in any competitive game on the surface it just looks like kill first or lose. Kill order, burn down with burst damage, or rotate each classes stuns all could be used depending on your teams builds vs the opponents team. If you look at game play their will be strong map control strategy bc of the orbs, keeping you opponents away form the orbs will be vital to a win when the battle does last that long. Gear will give more health, along with more damage, and we can not forget that the 3v3 ranked matches will be balanced. Battles will start to last longer than 30 sec. Gear does not = skill knowing how to play a class is more important (just saying). This is all just based on what i have seen and under stand this will change. Thank you for your input it is something to think about!

I am not contradicting myself, I said strategy will be more important as suppose to class combinations. However, how many strategies will there be? Not very many. Why? The mechanics are quite simple, there are no healers, no buffs, no debuffs.
The most popular strategy will probably be "ganking". Now this is the most rudimentary strategy one team can pull off.
As seen in the video from Blizzcon 2010 PvP Arena, a proper gank can kill a Wizard in matter of seconds. And the rest of the team just falls apart since its 2vs3.
What other viable strategy do you see? when people will be dying left and right in seconds. Think of Diablo 2 characters bounded inside an Arena. I think you get the picture if you imagine what that would look like.
This is a hard topic considering the huge number of builds there could be. The builds really are in their own category but they can have endless mixes. Pure damagers, controllers, counterers(lol?), half-half hybrids, and so many others.
But my own would be the Monk, Wizard, Barb; 1-2-spell punch. For the builds, I'll leave to my friends to decide on their Monk and Wizard; Frenzy Barb for me woooo.

Ganking, you mean Bursting. And straight up, there are stuns and slows i.e the wizard time slow bubble, they are debuffs.
Ganking is more coming from nowhere and owning some1 like in world pvp in wow, or jumping out of the jungle in LoL and smashing your opponent and having the element of surprise to aid you. In arena you can see straight away where they are and who your up against so you cant be "ganked".
Switching and bursting however is legit strategy. However your team may try 2 stack survivability through gear choices, skills and traits and therefore be very hard to burst. This then changes the dynamic of the arena.
I know every1 hates WOW but in cata(although i haven't played it) Blizzard decided to make the health pools of players a lot greater in comparison to the damage that was being dealt. I don't think D2 is a good example of how pvp will play in D3 as damage in D2 was huge compared to health pools.
Demon hunters traps and bola seem nice.
Witch doctors horrify effect and pets along with damage over time effects.
Monks melee damage output and defensive capabilities along with DoTs.
We gonna play demonhunter, barb, wiz.
Withouth any info I really can't tell you which setups will dominate. Time will show which setups are working better or not.
I think people are greatly underestimating the use of the WD in the arenas. Hex, confuse, wall of zombies, grasp of the dead and horrify. With the talk of the globe collection being so vital, controlling this arena and the other team is so important. I think I'm going to create a WD solely for PvP that will focus on crowd control more so than damage. Let the rest of the team do the killing while I control them.

As we know, the loosing team of hardcore pvp will loose their characters. The debate is still going for the winning team on whether or not the dead members get res'd.
I hope I can find someone to help me lvel my WD since 6 of his skills wont really be damaging skills
