Are you crossing your fingers that Diablo 3 beta will be out shortly after the May 5th Conference call?
I have this bad feeling that Jay Wilson with his development team is going to announce the "Beta date" in Blizzcon.
As much as I'd hope Jay is smarter than that, here are few reasons why BETA must come out before blizzcon.
1) Beta is not big of a deal to announce in the yearly held world convention, Blizzcon 2011.
- Unless they are giving a free beta keys to every attendee, don't create hype for no reason.
- Blizzard is too smart to treat everyone like children and say "here is a candy for you !" and give out only one.
- They learned not to play with the crowd, remember when they said they'll give out 1000 beta keys?
The amount of Booing echoed the entire convention centre. We don't want beta in Blizzcon for christ sakes. The chances of us getting in are slim. We want faster release date.
2) Blizzcon 2011 should have a final version of Diablo 3, in which, they could give more specific answer to many questions. Not just "We dont know yet, we're not done yet, we can't talk about that yet, we're undecided"
The only way to do it is push it to the limit. Just like throwing your kid in the swimming pool, without learning how to swim. This may kill your child, but the moral is you'll learn it faster and naturally.
Hold the beta, and fix it, and have the finalized version at Blizzcon 2011.
This is going to be 6 months going to waste, if they decide for whatever stupid reason to release beta in Blizzcon. I mean really, theres only 30,000 people in there and over 10 million people are awaiting to buy this game. Go for the majority, which want the game asap... They can hold 3v3 PvP tournaments at 2011 blizcon if they release the beta.
More exciting things can happen.
Yeah it will probably be out earlier, I don't know where your "fear" of them delaying it til Blizzcon 2011 comes from.
While betas nowadays are indeed part of the hype/marketing process of a game it's still mainly for testing purposes. So if they want to release the game in 2011 I don't see why delaying the beta test phase to Blizzcon for some arbitrary reason would make any sense.
On your second note I wouldn't expect a final version of D3 at Blizzcon. A close-to-finished one, sure, but final? Probably not.
I can almost assure you that it will be out before Blizzcon. The real question is how much longer after the conference call.
Who says it won't be BEFORE the call?

A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head!
I can't see blizz holding back until Blizzcon to announce the release date for the Beta, if anything they'll announce the retail release date at Blizzcon.
Zeg4life, thank you for making so many very interesting topics. Whether I agree with your views or not, doesn't change the fact that you make very interesting threads that have life.

As you said, Blizz is smart. I really feel that they do in fact know what they are doing. Therefore, they will not be announcing a beta at Blizzcon, but rather, a release date!
Whether the beta comes out before then or not I don't know. However, I would have to think that yes, the beta will come out before Blizzcon. I don't know that, but it does make sense.

I'm pretty sure this is real we just won't get them until the beta is actually announced.
