Now, this has come to my attention that gold might not be as important as i thought, but materials WILL be.
Gold will still be very important, but by adding "materials", this lessens its value.
I got this thought from the thread: "artisans abused".
In the "Diablo" spirit, we should be able to trade materials because they are something of value. this means that we won't be selling items as much to vendors, because scrapping it for materials might be more worth it.

How will materials lessen its value? I'm guessing the reasoning behind this is that you pay for parts of the crafting with materials instead of gold. Sure if you payed for everything with gold, then gold would be more valuable. But that is easily countered by making other things more/less expensive. Gold will be worth as much as Blizzard wants it to be worth. No more, no less.
Materials can only be used for crafting, that is their only sink. The crafted items that will be worth crafting purely for trading will obviously be the really great ones, and Jay stated that those will only be a small percentage of your entire gear. Rares and Legendaries will be preferred. This in turn means that when the market starts to be satisfied with those crafted items, people won't craft that much for for trading anymore. When they stop crafting excessive amounts of items, they don't want excessive amounts of materials. The value of materials then drops as a result of less demand. That in turn makes them items you get the materials from worth more as items, or in other words, as gold. I quote Jay:
"If its not worth picking up for gold, it is definitely not worth picking up for crafting."
In short: Materials has a sink that people will eventually stop using because they don't need it, that will make materials less valuable.
I think Materials will be tradeable, but collecting them just for trading is probably a very limited business. I think people will mainly be wanting materials for their own personal needs. Once they don't need the item they just crafted, they might sell it (for gold). The only materials that will be worth a lot is the ones needed for the ultimate crafted items, and even those will be limited to one per character.
very good point, but remember, they've basically combined crafting and gambling together.
when you craft an item, it gets set properties AS WELL as random properties that could be hard to obtain.
one thing you have to remember is that (somewhere mentioned) was how selling items to the vendor won't be worth as much as it used to be.
another thing that you have to remember, is that in the beginning, crafting will come cheap, but once you're artisan is fully leveled, and you reach a late phase in the game (or POST game phase) then you might find UNIQUE crafting recipes that cost a lot of gold AS WELL as a shit load of materials.
finding recipes could be JUST like finding unique/legendary items. The only difference is that once you find a legendary item, you can use it. Finding a legendary recipe means you found the ability to TRY paying for it.
there, my friend is a material "sink".
If i have a lot of materials, and i want gold for it; i want to be able to trade it with a friend who needs it.
