Lore: During the time of Baal's ascent to the worldstone, the barbarians of Harrogath continued to defend their town from General Shenk and his horde of minions. Catapults rained down on the battlefield and swarms of demons proved to be too much for the barbarians trying to make their way to top of the Bloody Foothills. After Baal's demise, the cursed worldstone was destroyed by Tyrael to protect mankind from the floodgates of hell. The worldstone was destroyed, but not completely. Unknown to Tyreal the shattered remains slowly made its way down the moutain towards the Bloody Foothills and Harrogath. The fallen barbarians, buried near Harrogath, were the first to come into contact with the shattered pieces of Baal's tainted worldstone. Their dead corpses became reanimated and renewed. Soaked with the evil intentions left by Baal, they rose from their graves. Their corrupted souls could not break free from the stone's haunting demands. They roam the lands killing all those in their way waiting patiently for their dark lord to rise again and command them.
Mechanics: Barbarians are known to fight even through impossible odds. Their fighting style is similar to that of their former selves with new abilities granted by the shattered worldstone. Their new demonized form allows for a higher threshold of pain along with a faster attack speed. The barbarians travel in groups, but are spread out to cover a large amount of terrain.
When one is in combat they have the ability to use Brethren Shout. This move teleports any nearby barbarian instantly to their location. The summoned Barbarian turns into a cloud of ash and transports to wherever it was called. It recontructs itself and immediately attacks.
Being from the cold mountaintops of Harrogath, the Barbarians are naturally immune to cold magic. The worldstone fragments enhance this natural immunity and grant the ability Cold Stare. This move slows down the target with an icy stab that makes it difficult for the opponent to get away.
The slowing effect of Cold Stare sets up his last ability that only triggers when the barbarian is the last left standing in his group. The barbarian will begin to charge up an extremely powerful slash, Demonic Overdrive. If not defeated quickly enough the barbarian will cause massive area damage along with a devastating curse debuff.
When a barbarian dies, its soul escapes from its foul body through whatever opening is the largest. So if he is cut in half then it will come from that wound. The body then turns to ash leaving only the armor. If killed with magic then he will drop to his knees and turn to ash allowing the soul to fly away and the armor to fall to the ground, empty.
In the deepest, darkest pits of the Underworld, in the farthest reaches of planar existence where hell is blanketed in hurricanes of fire, the most wretched of monsters feast on the fear and suffering of human minds. Here in the burning valleys of damnation, split by the infernal river of flame, networks of caverns, carved out by ancient tides of molten lava, house tormented souls bound in fetid webbing, hallowed of their innards. The bodies hang mangled, flesh seared from sulfuric acids and perforated by razor sharp appendages. Underneath the moans and groans of these lost souls, a single phrase can be deciphered amongst the sea of murmurs,
"Beware.....beware..the Gukuuji....beware...."
The legend of Gukuuji was first recorded in the city of Travincal in Kurast, where the Zakarum devotees were tasked with cataloging the major demons of hell for future crusades. During their investigations, many followers began losing their minds, claiming that the spiders of the forest were tormenting them. They were ultimately driven to commit acts of violence against their brethren, going mad from their attempts to uncover details of the demon. The Gukuuji capitalized on the fears of the disciples studying him, finding a foothold in their perception of reality and corrupting it. This sinister manipulation was the Gukuuji's only opportunity to completely possess their spirits and gain entry into Sanctuary. In a final act of desperation, the Zakarum ended all investigations of the infernal Gukuuji, sealing away any documentation in a futile attempt to protect the minds of men from knowing of his existence.
Mechanics:
The Gukuuji is a major demon, a rank below that of a Lesser Evil. He is the Lord of Torment, a title earned by his viscous acts committed on the lost souls of the Underworld. Gukuuji actually has little hit points, for his carapace is not as thick as it may seem. He relies on his webbing and acidic saliva to trap and overwhelm his foes. His speed is ferocious, using his lack of armor as a mobility enhancement. The Gukuuji will never battle an opponent face to face, he uses range, traps, and knowledge of the surrounding tunnels to ambush his foes.
