The red target outline has been added to the game (in Blizzcon 2009) and lead designer Wilson said it will stay.
The game looked so awesome BEFORE this rubbish "red outline" thing imo. After I saw this "red outline" I was so disappointed. The problem is I CAN'T see awesome modelled monsters, I see strange red shapes instead and I can't differentiate monsters, every enemy looks the same to me: Red shapes only. The red outline thing was the only reason I stopped playing Dungeon Siege 2 this takes so much from the game in my opinion and I'm sad that this rubbish will also be in Diablo 3.
Here is what I'm talking about. Those screenshots are from:
I like the idea of the red outline. It definitely helps you know exactly what monster you are attacking. However, it does greatly lessen the effect of having awesome monsters. I think it should stay but I hope they find a way to tone it done. Less bright, thinner lines maybe a different color that doesn't stand out so much.

If you have Diablo II set on max settings (3D mode), they're there when you some attacks, like fire-based attacks. I think for other elements they change other colors.
In any case, it was in both games in some form, so it is ironically "true to the roots" of the game. I honestly think they're great and can't see any rational problem here. They are, most likely, going to have a toggle for it.
I think they're more noticeable in Diablo III simply because it's 3D and the outlines are actual light effects instead of just drawing a 1-pixel red line around the 2D target.
Actually, it would be interesting to see poll results for a question similar to this topic, if any of you are interested
I think the outline are very usefull gameplay wise.
Sometimes the screen will be overwhelmed with dozens of monsters and your cursor just loose itself in the chaos. Cleary see your target is useful.
A option to able/disable it is essential. The more of those options they add in the game, better.
And tone it down to something less bright.
And I agree. It looks ridiculously bad, I wonder what the hell they were thinking. Some people just think they'll have an option for it... now, will they?
You have no idea how many games I had ruined by the silliest stupid crap like that which the developers just didn't bother including an option for.
And I never had any trouble in D2. We don't need stupid outlines. If they play stupid and keep it AND don't include an option, I swear I will hunt every stupid developers on the planet that can make that kind of decisions.
I have not seen the demo in person so I can not say it looks good or bad in action. One thing seeing it on a screenshoot another thing when it is in action and you are playing.
I think it will look good with the outline when it is released. It was in the previous games so I do not see it as an issue if the outline is not that large and the color changes based on the surrounding.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
I somewhat dislike it, but it doesn't make a big difference. Hopefully they'll have a toggle or perhaps a slider the change the thickness/intensity of the line. Either way is fine by me though.
In Diablo 2, if I'm not mistaken, the engine just made your target slightly brighter, which I thought was a great way to notify the player of which monster was targeted.
But really, Blizzard's not going to make something that's ridiculously ugly. I have full confidences in their art department.
I honestly really don't like it. I know that D1 had it, and even though some of you say DII had it, I never saw it there. It must have been a much much improved red/colored outline than DI. And now with DIII they seem to have stepped backwards. It looks like a little kid took a thick red marker and scribbled an outline of the monsters. You can't even tell what the monster is anymore, once it is highlighted. A bit extreme for me.
Now as long as I can completely turn it off I won't have a problem.
I've got a question though.
Why do they need it? I thought Blizz was geared towards making all the creatures stand out from the background with the shapes and colors of the creatures. If they have to add an outline then it means they failed at their first task.
Well, it's important to know which monster you're targeting. You don't want to cast an expensive spell on the little grunt right next to a huge Act boss.
Oh god I hope I get the ability to get rid of this. It's so ugly. I want my game to look nice, not shitty outlined enemies.

i hate the red outline. it's just another step towards the 'pussyfication' of D3. seriously, what kind of retarded individual needs the red outline to see whom he is attacking? it just looks crap.
Yep, I pretty much agree. It's not a huge deal though but if it's going to stay I'd much rather see it dimmed or lessened in width.
I don't like it. I makes sense for dark dungeons or enemies that are behind architecture, but I have used a computer and mouse before. I know through experience that the thingy my arrow is on will open when I click it. Or die in this case.

It's more for colorblind people. It'll look better, OP, when the resolution is 6 times that video's and things are moving.
