Just wanted to post something amusing I noticed lol.
2 of the 5 skills revealed by blizzard for the monk class were undoubtedly 100% ripped off from the anime Naruto. Specifically one of the anime's characters called Neji
Its not THAT big of a deal, since games are notorious for stealing ideas and skills from each other all the time. The new dragon age game has so many skills straight out of World of warcraft and often have the same name
But nevertheless, I just thought it would be an interesting thread for the diablo fan
One of the monks skills is called "Impenetrable defense", and its a taken from Neji's "Absolute defense" the Kaiten. Here is the monk using impenetrable defense. Notice the defensive wall of blue mana around him that blocks attacks from any direction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XwgW1xZXUs
Then Look at Neji using "Absolute defense" Kaiten. Notice the exact same blue sphere which also blocks attacks from any direction. In the anime they call mana "chakra". Of-course the anime came out years before the Monk was released http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rnih1YLeec
And the more obvious example comes in the monks other skill, the "seven sided strike" Notice the rapid attack movement, and the big giveaway being the pattern or design on the floor that occurs when the monk uses the skill. A big round circle pattern on the ground that appears when he uses the seven sided strike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZmMvfELkO0
It's taken from Neji using his "64 strikes of devination" technique where he hits the opponent very rapidly at 64 points on their body. Notice before he uses the skill, a giant circular pattern appears beneath him just like the monks skill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUh75maxRio
... I don't get it. I really just don't. I'm sorry man. Do you want the Monk to fly through the atmosphere and twinkle in the sky? Or break the ground with his feet and jump in to the air fourteen stories without the slightest thigh movement?
Yea none of this stuff is at all specific to naruto, its all pretty basic martial arts lore as far as I can see...
Martial Arts lore is so huge that it isn't funny. However monks for the most part (from the people I've mentioned it to) think mostly kungfu, or the whole yin/yang concept.
Not specifically chakkra and ninjutsu. Which is primarily a assassination type school.
The monk to me just looks like a re-worked assassin . A strike that explodes demons ? lame.
It is a real poor choice for this game because most of a monks abilities are not extensions of their body, it usually is JUST their body amplified. Iron shirt, steel leg, iron head, empty hands.. all things that really relate to the persona of a monks dedication to their body and mind. No sphere of lol and it reflects attacks, generally the whole concept is to use what you trained (skin to absorb attack, iron head... etc) not to be impenetrable completely, but to make the typical attack useless.
No monk technique that I know of extends past the actual body, besides some of the music playing techniques. Buddhist palm again.. is more like an amplification of their palm in mind, moving through the real world (giant palm seen in the movie I linked). They still have to do the move and its over, you can't just throw down a yin-yang and the ground just protects you.. they would need to just stick with like a figure8/360 staff move.. not be able to freely move in it.
Again a monk is not a ninja, or you would call them a ninja.. lol
As far as the topic at hand however, Blizzard seems to be making a class(the monk) that looks flashy and cool instead of something that actually fits into the world of diablo. They're doing exactly the same thing with this games lore like they did with warcraft's lore. They're saying "bah, no one cares about lore! we'll just do whatever looks cool instead of what makes sense in this world we've created!"
I could see the monk fitting into the world of diablo, but not in the current form whatsoever, it would fit into the game as a bare knuckle brawler type(isn't there a drunken style of martial arts?)but then the name wouldn't make sense I guess..
I would say naruto did steal some from somewhere else. However I think "Exploding Plam" technique is un-original as its been stolen so so so many times. I would go far and say its un-inspiring.

Having played the practically alpha version of the Monk, I have to say he plays better then the wizard and the WD easily. Hes fast, does good damage, and has average life. He will be very good at PvP cause he can hit and dodge and move around very freely whereas the barbarian will be a little slower and more restricted with his movements, which means a great monk can topple a good barbarian. They have released like 3 skills of his so far, he doesn't even have a correct energy source yet. He is far from finished and if a WD fits into the Diablo world then a Monk should be right at home, atleast he is fighting for a purpose, whereas the WD's purpose is what...?

I never said the monk didn't play well(as I've never actually played him, or any of the classes). I simply stated that I don't believe that his current incarnation doesn't fit well with the flow of the game. He seems a little bit flashy for my tastes for someone that doesn't use magic, and that's my main beef with him at the moment. I understand that they are trying to get the point across that he is the embodiment of his 1001 gods, but I wish he was more of a bare knuckle brawler or even using battle staves(like he currently does) and was more of a martial fighter than a "I zoom around and cause flashy explosions with my holy might!" type of character.
As for the witch doctor, he actually makes a little bit of sense since they have jungle people and who do jungle people usually have for heads of their tribe? You guessed it, the witch doctors.
However, I've never heard of the monk or his people before they introduced him into the lore with diablo 3.
Also; Thank Seth I realize that first line of the above post was probably out of line, just felt like the thread was heading in the wrong direction and wanted to voice my opinion.

Yea I would prefer a brawler version of the Monk as well. I don't remember his skill trees that well since it was back at Blizzcon and well he had like I said like 4 skills haha but hopefully they will input a brawler sense into him in atleast 1 tree.

Siaynoq's Playthroughs
Who cares where they get their inspirations from, all that matters is fun and balanced game play.
where's Buddhist Palm ? When I think monk I think kung fu.
Everyone steal everyone anyways... When someone got a great idea why not to use it and make it better.
Like Titan Quest use d2 idea and make extremly better.
I think from the first game, people use idea and make better with, if not, the technology today won't be so far as supposed.
Like cars, companies never start from nothing... They studdy and make better !
Return on topic : I don't think Blizzard copied or stoled but It's look pretty the same.
Exploding Palm and Way of the Hundred Fists?
6:45 is the palm technique.
I guess they'd be nice...
euhhh if you'd never watched Naruto don't tell you're "100%" sure, because it's true, those skills looks pretty similar....
Exploding anything doesn't remind me of any kungfu movie technique I've ever heard of.
Kind of like the attacks in Psychonauts but not mind ;-)
