Hi everyone! Forgive me if this question has been asked but i couldnt seem to find any threads about it. Anyway one thing that outraged me about diablo 2 was if you didnt play the character for 90 days it would delete, which made me loose over 4 lvl 90's. Did blizzard mention anything about that? Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Sometimes gaming is impossible due to work and leaving the state, and nothing would piss me off more than losing my characters all over again with such a cool game......hope someone knows thanks
Technically, after your character expires you can revive it by using it like normal so long as no one has used the name while your character was expired.
I don't think this should be changed in the coming game. Why? Because I don't want a bunch of people using up all the good names and then ten years later there's like nothing left to name your character.
Well, if you are unable in any way to access the game from anywhere for 90 days, then I think thats your problem.
These limits exists for a reason. Its probably VERY helpful to their database, keeping it from growing too big, and also helps with names. Beside, 90 days is far enough.
Maybe they'll have a paying feature for your account so that your characters can never be deleted over time.
I think to delete characters/account to recycle names is not a good enough reason, database I can understand.........why cant everyone just be creative and think of something unique to name thier character? Who wants a generic name?
Why cant blizzard make it like WoW, WoW chars dont delete unless you choose to destroy it. SFjake I guess me not playing is my problem, sometimes people cant game till dusk till dawn every single day, Most people have other obligations in life and some times have no choice but to hang up the mouse for a bit.
This seems to be my only concern and really hope they make a reasonable change in D3. If I knew blizzard would delete my wow account someday, I would have never invested so much of my time in the game. Anyway sorry for the ramble I really hope im not the only one sweating about this. Hope to hear some more opinions. Im sick and tired of WoW im thrilled to get back to Diablo like old times. Call me crazy but its a crappy feeling for me to play a game for so long knowing I could lose it one day, thats what turned me off to d2 i just didnt want to start all over....characters are easy to make but to get all those priceless items is not......ack im done lol
Blizzard should buy a 1TB hdd for $100 and backup their database onto it each day so they can keep deleting inactive characters from their live database and can restore a deleted character when needed.
May I add Blizzard Ent makes a disgusting amount of money everyday. I dont think they have an excuse to having a crappy "database" time to upgrade!

So, if someone else does use the name while your character was expired, does that mean that the character is dead for good? Or can you simply re-name the character?
I think it would be nice if they gave you the option to re-name.

Have you played Halo?... They make tons of money yet they still have to restart their database and wipe everything once every two years or so or something like that. It's not about money it's annoying say i want the name entity and someone steals it then never plays the game again why should they get the name ive wanted if they dont even play the game anymore. And i get people have lives but it doesnt mean you have to quit 90 days straight. I mean thats a long ass time like really long 3 months a quarter of a damn year. Yoou have that many obligations, that you cant take a minute out of your day just to log on? that to me says your an over achiever.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!

Mh... sure. But logging in once every 3 months is not a big requirement.
We pay monthly for WoW. They invest a hell of a lot of that money for its computers and to store everything. They won't do this for free for us with D3.
I think we should keep the deletion. Like others have said, it both saves space, and it makes names available for other people. Who knows, maybe they can save the Character for up to 12 months, but after 3 months the name becomes available for others, if your name is taken, just choose a new one and blam, you can play again. But after 12 months your gone for good.
I personally don't care for something like that, but it could work for some people...
its not limited to 1 class per account. But I remember hearing that the new battle.net account system would help Blizzard maintain a certain balance with the number of characters each player has, giving these account the opportunities to keep their characters for **ever**. Like WoW yes

hmm I guess I should have been more specific for people like this guy...Do you honestly think im that retarded to know about the 90 day delete process, fail to log on purpose, then complain about losing my account???? That would be silly.
I had to go to Europe for 5 months...long story short I couldnt lug my giant ass desktop with me/grandma doesnt like the internet, not even sure she knows what it is.....Anyway all im saying is I would of loved to have gone home and played some d2. Therefore sh** happens! And am really hoping for some solution. Also forums can go without smart ass comments......"over achiever" LOL internet courage right there
P.S. reading most of the replies looks like people are concerned about getting thier names jacked by someone that never plays. So couldnt they keep the character but reset your name after 3 months? Anyway thanks for all your comments!
Well sure, keeping the character 12 months but the name only 3.
When it comes down to it, we have absolutely no idea what Blizzard will do here. They said nothing yet. If they CAN handle it and never delete your character, its not like I'll be whining about it.
I think this thread has heard all it can. Thanks everyone for all your imput! I guess there is no way of knowing just yet, we will just have to wait and see or read about it in later development. Otherwise I think this game is going to be epic and can't wait.
