i believe that there will be some extra cost associated with b-net 2.0. in blizzcon '08, jay wilson said that blizzard does not want to create a subscription fee for bnet 2.0, but they do want some money back in return for creating the new bnet. it's like this, blizzard creates starcraft 2, diablo 3, and bnet 2.0, but only charges people for sc2, and d3. how do they get paid for creating bnet 2.0 which took a lot of time and effort to make? here is where the extra cost comes into play. it may be that you will pay a one-time only fee of 10 bucks for bnet 2.0, or that you can get a bunch of extra, cool features if you pay a small monthly subscription fee (maybe like 5 bucks/month or something).
long story short, do expect some extra cost associated with bnet 2.0 b/c they do need money for making it.
Mmh yes some do, and I used to constantly whine in game that this 15$ a month pissed me off until I just left.

I'm sure everyone understand the basics here, but there still is no reason to force anything down our throat. Bnet 2.0 should be free to play and have no limitation on normal gameplay, or privilege that gives a player an edge.
We need to wait and see, they can charge whatever they want whenever they want.

There will be no charge for playing online, maybe for some extra features. However, I would be inclined to pay a small amount monthly if they can make it 100% lag free, and for Diablo ,boting and dupeing or any other form of hacking would be 100% eliminated. If, however, they can't guarantee the latter they shouldn't dare charging for it.
Diablo 2 economy is entirely based on duping, and i doubt gold will become usefull, it seems to be dropping in the same amounts in diablo 3. And i doubt they can banish duping completely

This isn't real, I don't think. It's most likely just rumor-mongering to build site traffic. I've never even seen that website before, not even passingly in googling. We already have direct quotes from known sources, like Blizzard employees, that you can go and see for yourself, right now. Furthermore, we already have articles against this by news sites that I've actually heard of.
No way will ythere be a subscription fee if im not mistake WoW makes round 150 million dollars a year thats enough to pay every blizzard employee at least half a mil each. There is no way they will need sc2 and D3 ot be extra cshcows they have it and its wow and blizzzard said no fees that means no fees
The 150 million a year is totally wrong. They make millions a month. In a year they make Billions (I did the math one day) If blizzard saved the money they made off of wow in a year they can give a dollar to every person on the planet and have some left over.

They have 11 millions of players. Or so they said. Lets assume these players all pay once a year (which makes it 13$ a month).
Its 143 millions a month. Thats only the monthly fees. Buying the game AND its expansions sure as hell gives a bump of money here and there.
Thats 1.7 billion a year for a gaming company. Even if their number of customers is a lie and you lowered it by half, you'd still get around 800 millions a year.
I seriously don't think they have money trouble. I don't even know what this was about.
Agreed. Obviously they employ a fair number of people (with, we can assume, decent wages) and spend a lot of money investing into new projects (D3, Cataclysm, unannounced projects, etc.) and have lots of expenses in purchasing / maintaining hardware (particularly for WoW)...but still, you know they're pulling in a pretty serious return.
Not sure what all this was about either, just another $00.02.
Thats comforting. Good to see its an old quote. If they want to charge for special avatars, or other optional crap on battlenet, have at it. just leave monthly subscriptions out of it and let us play our game in peace.
Well actually I think there would be more peace with a monthly fee Less kiddies and idiots ruining the game.. But yeah Free is good since nowadays I don't seem to have time to play games every day.

Why would there be less kids?
I seriously don't see that logic. If that were true, Xbox Live wouldn't be full of nothing but kids.
Kids do one thing: ask and convince their parents. They don't even care about what the cost is. They are not the ones paying for it.
What blizzard needs to stop doing is this one game a year bullshit. If you have noticed since WoW came out thats all they focus on. Which i can understand you always want to focus on what will get you the must money. But while doing that they are forgetting about other games. Does anyone rember starcraft ghost. It was suppose to be a console starcraft game. And they really got going into the game production. But then soon lost track because of WoW's second expansion was soon to arrive. So what ennded up happening is they canned the whole starcraft ghost game and put all their people on the second WoW expansion. If blizzard really wanted to they could have SC2 already out in stores and have D3 coming out soon but all they want to do is focus on WoW. But what they dont realize by not finishing these really big titles they're missing out on all the money. Think about it if blizzard annouced tomorrow mourning that D3 was done and ready to be shipped. I guarantee 90% of the people that read this forum would take the day off of work, school, life and buy D3 and play the game day long. From all the people on this website blizzard would make a couple million bucks right off the bat. But they don't they just focus on WoW which is dumb they are loosing out on all the money by not wanting to finish these 2 games. Sorry for ranting so much. It just pisses me off the D3 isnt done yet and now theyre looking to make everyone pay for b.net while coming out with another WoW expansion. If any thing blizzard should be paying us for making us wait so damn long for this game. WoW has enough expansions lets get the ball rollin blizzard and lets finish this game up.

Holy shit i just forgot that its 15 a month not ayear holy shit yo they have enough to pay like each employee two million dollars. THATS FUCKIN INSANSE. This just further my theory they only have one extremely popular and big cash cow it's called wow thats their revenue no B.Net, b.net was made with the money from wow and it's expansions. Sorry but the only fee you'll be seeing is The actual box price of Sc2 and it's expansion and Diablo 3 maybe even some cool add-on like diffrent layouts maybe a diablo 3 themed B.Net or an SC themed b.net nothing more than 1 dollar they're not looking for more money really.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
TBH I wouldn't be that angry if Blizzard decided to charge for B.Net as long as they'd keep the fee at a reasonable level like a few $ per month. You can still play the game if you don't want to use B.Net, but I understand that redesigning the entire site has its expenses to Blizzard. Besides, who knows what they're planning to add, I don't expect regular content patches like WoW, but if they make a well-functioning chat, friends list, trade, shared stash and maybe even some events etc. I don't mind paying a small fee for that.
BAN!!! lol just kidding. While 5$ a month isn't a lot of money, its still not needed for bnet. Wow costs to play because of weekly maitenance, live support ingame, constant patches, and new content for free.
Bnet should be free for just hosting servers to play on. If they wanted to charge a few bucks for a patch or something that included more content I wouldn't be against that, but to pay monthly is just not reasonable.

they don't whine about money
whine about classes or instances or games being too easy, sure, but 5-15-50 a month is easy to get by just begging on the corner of a street
There will be paid services for both Diablo III and Starcraft II but no way in hell will we have to pay for Battle.net itself.
