So one of my, and hopefully some of your, most hated things in online games is getting spammed and filled chatrooms with "XXX gold for $$$, PWRLVL, cheap cheap cheap!" <-- insert bad translation here. I am sick of this nonsense. Not only is the spam unbearable to look at all the time it ruins the gaming economy almost immediatley, just as much as duping did in diablo 1 i remember around the 3rd month it was released.
So what is blizzard planning on doing to prevent it here? I'm sick of the BoP and BoE crap in games, that just ruins the economy too. When I'm done with a weapon and found better I would like to be able to trade/sell it off. Why should chinese goldfarmers ruin that gaming experience for me? I say just start going banhappy on accounts that spam ANY type of selling XX for $$$. No tolerance policy. First offense = ban.
Essentially the more farmers we got runnin around, the more high lvl gear they have they drive up prices huge for stuff... "20 sojs for this, 50 soj's for that" .. i mean what the hell? I found 2 sojs my whole diablo 2 career and everyone wants no less than 10 sojs for any item that is halfway usefull? UGH! Duping/goldfarming.. both make me angry as they ruin the economy but goldfarmers spam constantly which makes me dislike them even more. So is there any plans on what blizzard is going to do to prevent this or just let it run rampant like in diablo 2?
I think they will have something to make it better than what it was.

Blizzard needs a brilliant idea to prevent all of this... They have to find a way to make items and gold not worth so much or something... im not sure how they are supposed to do it, but im sure they will... If D3's economy turns out as d2's i will be very disappointed. But Baishok once said something regarding this issue, he said "D3 is not being developed in the 90's" or something... so yeah...
I agree with the first offense for spamming = insta-ban. There really needs to be a no-tolerance policy implemented within multilayer next-gen games. I remember when Warhammer Online first came out, within the first week, 50,000 people were perma-banned for spamming, and offering a number of in-game services. Actions like these make it clear to players that this stuff is definitly a "no no". Honestly, I'm more concerned about this stuff then people using maphacks(which also threaten the games economy). I'd like to see blizzards approach on how to resolve many of these issues that have wrecked hundreds of games in the past and present.

WoW is already like that... see someone spamming gold, report in 2 clicks, you never see them again. But then more with random names will appear.. and this goes on forever.
I don't see why people panic so much about it. Blizzard can't stop it entirely, and yes it will affect the economy, its not a -good- thing but its not going to kill the game. People need to stop getting so paranoiac over these. "OMG MY EXPERIENCE WILL BE RUINED BY CHEATERS". The only reason its going to affect you is because you care too much. Stop it. Stop living in other people's world and just care about yourself and your experience.
Things happens around you in the game and you can't stop it. Its not going to be as out of control as D2, Blizzard is making sure of that, but a lot will still happen. Stop caring and live with it. Please. Because it won't ever stop.

Although I partially agree with you that some people complain too much, I think your stance is really complacent. The way that these things get better is by people talking about it, finding out what the problems are, and coming up with possible solutions for it. Which is exactly what people in this thread are doing, and it is what this website is for.
I like the WOW system that was noted above, although I have never played the game. It would be nice to just report someone spamming.

I agree with you on some levels, but it WILL and/or CAN ruin the users experience, considering its a multi-player game, there comes a point where a player will interact with other players. With the addition of cheating, boting, spamming, farming, power leveling, exploitation( or creative use of game mechanics); Gold farming and gold spamming is just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to ruining the user experience for such a beautiful game. Some people have their reasons for complaining a lot. I know it will never stop, thats just life though. Problems will arise, and solutions will be implemented. But I've been in situations multiple times in different games where cheaters totally fuck up my experience. Obviously you havent ran into one of those situations yet. When you do, I think you'll develop a bit more sympathy for people with different stances.
This game has the potential to be VERY GOOD, and full of win, but it also has the chance to pull an EPIC FAIL economy wise. It would be disastrous for us Diablo fans if it did pull an epic fail. We've seen it before, we can see it again. I'd have to say about 40-50% of us fans will Love the game, but will leave many of us in the dark with many of the drastic changes in generic style that have taken and are still taking place. Conservative diablo fans dont want change.

A simple report feature will be all it takes to stop the majority of spam, since there are MANY players out there that get pissed off at spam bots, and players who spam.

How dare you!! As a Chinese American I stand up for gold farmers. My cousins need a way to make money in their country and what better way than getting to play a video game. What, Do you want them to loose their cushy jobs and go work out in the blazing sun in the rice fields just because you don't like seeing this tiny little message every once in awhile saying buy gold. Do you have any idea what it is like to find a job in China right now and you're trying to diminish their choices not to mention taking away one of the best jobs they can get. How Dare you!!
P.S. all of this is said in a sarcastic tone

I think banning IP addresses could work so they can't just create new accounts, although Blizzard would have to be sure of who they are banning...
Ah !
Forgot about IP banning (somehow).
That could easily put a stop to most spammers, but yes, I agree, more care would have to be used if this method was used to stop spammers.

i have a better idea:
first offense; BAN account, and save Ip address
second offense; BAN Ip address
i think this will work nicely
Two problems:
1. Most people do not stick with a single IP address. Most people can change them when they please.
2. So by preventing the spam, you think people who want to buy items won't be able to google for a site that provides those services? Seriously? Since when does spam actually persuade people to do something. They do it if they want. They are not going to die in ignorance if someone doesn't inform them about some particular site.
Also, there is no point in taking WoW as an example. Who would pay 15 euros/pounds/dollars for 1000g when that money is easily attainable in a single day. Furthermore, WoW gold will not get you anywhere in the game. You can't buy gear, you can't be better in the game. You can easily get all the gold you need, and nobody needs much except for some vanity stuff which does not affect the competitive factor of the game in any way.
It's their fault they chose to make D3 a "trading game". They can't stop botting and farming and item selling. You just have a choice of working your ass off to get something rare, or to buy it. You wanted that system, they are making that system, deal with it.

I really hope you're wrong, but I bet you're right.
I think, if Blizzard is going to try and stop spamming, that they nshould make it so that you should only be able to spam a certain amount in a certain amount of time. Like, 2 statements every 30 seconds or so. Some games have that and I think it works. I, in particular don't really care if someone spams, it's not like there screaming in my ear or something, there just words on a screen.
And I hate the idea of a permanent ban in any game. It is fair, but sometimes people get banned for things they didn't even do. Maybe someone reported them just because they didn't like them, and then they got a perm ban. That's not fair. I think that a 30 day ban would be exceptable. Maybe start with a 3 day ban, for the second offence make it a 2 week ban. And for every offence after that, make it 30 days. That way, they learn their lesson, they can get back into the game. And the people that just got screwed over because some guy likes to go around reporting people for no reason don't have to go out and spend another 60 bucks or so to play.

I don't see how that is of any help. Its just a punishment for the others.

I kind of agree. I have been banned twice here and there for no reason, and couldn't play anymore, yet I never did anything. Its extremely frustrating to know that what you paid for can be halted forever in a single click from someone, and you don't even have the rights to say anything about it.

Agreed with spammers though, first offense should = ban, since the majority of these spammers are bots.
