I was wondering if anyone's heard anything about customizable controls in Diablo 3? I'm just now really getting into Diablo 2 and I love the game and am extremely excited about Diablo 3, but I can't really get into the point and click controls. I avoided entire genres back in the day that were known for their point and click controls and to release a game that's entirely point and click based nowadays would seem just outdated. When playing Diablo 2 I can't help but feel that pointing and clicking controled both movement and combat. I've never liked the point and click style and have always preferred having more of a direct, directional control over the character.
It would be nice if we could control our characters with the WADS, or atleast have the option to, and leave the mouse clicking for the combat. To me it just seems to be and feels more percise.
Could anyone verify if Diablo 3 will have customizable controls?
Well it could be an option, but I don't think they'll implement it, but one never know what will happen, but still the Diablo series is all about pointing and clicking

"Eternal suffering would be too brief for you, Diablo!"
Im not positive, but in the video he was touching upon key-binds for the action bar and mouse.. But I don't think they will change movement mechanics, it's the way it's always been. If anything they would add it an option to use ARW/WASD.
Customizing controls will almost certainly be there...no good games I can think of on the PC do not have this feature.....but I doubt you will be able to change them so much its no longer a point and click game :P.....I dont see how that type of gameplay is outdated....
It's outdated because the last really great point and click was diablo 1. The genre suffers from a too superficial and repetitive gameplay. I hope D3 will fix that.

To fix it by switching to a whole new genre? Yeah.
In Diablo games you can never run and cast at the same time. A guy who plays with the mouse has to stop to cast, while you can hold the directional key and run away from him while blizzarding him or whatever. Sounds retarded. Not to mention that the camera is fixed so using WASD would only give you four directions, unless you want A and D to turn your character around which is slow and, again, retarded.
WASD to control your characters in the 8 directions on an overhead game is absolutely not unheard of and it plays very well. If there is no cast time as that you can move and cast at the same time, then geeze, the problem is not in these "new controls". Even in Diablo 2, you cast, and then move your mouse and click to run. Sure, its true that its a bit harder to do that with the mouse. Doesn't make it bad.
To be perfectly honest, sometimes I wish I could move my character with WASD and click for all other actions, simply because it would be much less annoying. But is it so wrong to give the OPTION? "OMG, THEY HAVE A TINY TECHNICAL ADVANTAGE, AND IT WASN'T IN OTHER DIABLO! DON'T LET ANYONE USE IT!"
That kind of attitude makes me sick. And the last topic about this was full of that as well.
Still I wouldn't expect them to include that, it could be technically hard to put in the game since it wasn't designed around that, etc. But I see absolutely no other reason not to have this possibility. It doesn't change anything, it would work as well. Stop creating silly reasons. No wonder gaming hasn't evolved at all for a while.
I don't think you would want to use the WASD style in D3, the number of attacks tagged to the "F" keys will keep your hands busy enough. Not to mention all the alpha hot keys used in the game.
I dont mind certain keys like a potion/man hotkey (which NEEDS TO BE IMPLEMENTED) nor do i mind changing key bindings for hotkeys or any other system events like pause or something.
What I know won't make it into the game is the option to change the movement. Blizzard has said that they want Diablo 3 to be so easy to control that you could play the game by just using the mouse.
Also... who the hell plays action rpg's with awsd? I can't think of any game that had it and implemented well, or even got me thinking that that is how i want to play the game. Just doesnt feel right after so many years.

And where did I say it have to switch genre ? As allways, you're pretty fast to attack someone, but slow to understand what others says.
What I said is that I hope they fix the simplicity and repetitivy problem of point and click's, not change genre. Theres not even logic in discuss that because point and click is alredy confirmed since last year when the game was announced.
there having a skill bar this time so i dont think people will really be using any f keys
I will, I don't want to worry about my scroll wheel or looking down at a skill bar if I'm in an intense battle. Personally when I'm shwacking away, I don't want to have to look away to make a multiple choice decision on some icons. "F" keys are the bomb, you already have a free hand and don't need to take you eyes off the battle.

No one said it was unheard of.

It would be less annoying for you. But you haven't actually played Diablo 3 with WASD (and probably never will) so you don't really know that. Go get Diablo 1 for the playstation, an emulator to run it on your computer, and map the d-pad to the WASD keys. Let me know how that works out for you.
But I honestly don't give a shit if it's an option. As long as it does not change the way a majority of us want to play.
That kind of attitude makes me sick. And the last topic about this was full of that as well.
No one has had that kind of attitude in this thread. Get over it.
No wonder gaming hasn't evolved at all for a while.
You're insane.

WASD would be harder to use if they are going to let us use the same key group of the previous version (which I honestly dunno)
From the videos seems like the game controls/camera works the same way of Diablo2 and I like it that way .
Time will tell the tale.
