What you're probably referring to is called aliasing. It's the jagged appearance on the edges of (generally) polygons. It's usually resolved through use of processes collectively referred to as anti-aliasing, which we don't have implemented.
Will anti-aliasing ever be implemented or is it not just done yet? (I'm guessing it's the latter, just want to make sure though).

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
Good question, I was curious about this from the way Bashiok worded that response.
The most logical thing to me is that they'll have it as an optional graphical setting, so those with the hardware to handle it can have it enabled. I think this is how it is handled in WoW, but I might be mistaken.
no. i think they have said they want D3 to be acessible to all ppl... so i think anti-allizing will be out of video options, just like directX 10.
its a bad thing for those like us who can support such things, but its a better thing for those who cant affort a better computer.
i may be wrong, tho
In every game it's allowed to be turned on/off.

Let's just pretend for one moment that I don't know what anti-aliasing is. Now explain to me what that is.
I don't know the technical terms, but basically, when it's disabled, edges have a jagged appearance, and when it's enabled, your graphics card works to smooth those edges (better look, worse performance).
Here's a simple version:
And here's a gaming example:
(I'm going to go take screenshots, BRB).

tkrow beat me but i'll post this anyway cause it shows another example
from bashiok's post: processes to resolve the jagged appearance on the edges of polygons
from wiki: technique of minimizing the distortion artifacts
(also more info on how it's done on wikipedia)
vs
personally i turn it off in most games cause it slows framerate and rough graphics don't bother me

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
Pretty much every game with AA has an option for it and usually its off by default unless you have a decent rig, im gonna guess D3 is no exception unless they opt to not have it possible at all...in which case you can probably force it with software
Ah, I understand now. Thanks folks for the explanation.
I took a few screenshots so you can see how it affects visuals.
Anti-aliasing is on:
Anti-aliasing is off:
It's quite a disturbance in FPS games because when anti-aliasing is off, the jagged appearance moves as you look in a different direction, distracting you. It's not that big of an issue for an RPG game, but I'm just curious.

You guys are not even funny. Of course there will be an OPTION.
Even if they do not include it in a moment of madness (but they said they will), you will still be able to turn it on specifically for that game from your GPU control panel (99% cards support drivers that do that).

dont need... bashiok said it all... anti-alising makes your computer use more poligons on the model...
That's the most retarded thing I heard this month.
Oh, I think I've messed with those options when I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Sure, it obviously looks better to have it on, but probably not worth it to me, considering especially that my computer isn't that super fast.
about D3... another thing that makes me think they will not put AA into the game is the high number of enimies... look at the first gameplay video they have shown. you see the barbarian kill 100 monsters in just 5 minutes or less. with that amount ot models, with a huge anti-alising turned on you would need a super machine to run the game and you would notice almost no diference.
the isometric games, usually H&S dont need much of antializing, coz you dont face the models close enough to make a big diference... and i think bizzard is exactly thinking on this way.
Actually, while playing Company of Heroes, enabling Anti-aliasing takes away only about 15-20 frames. However, I agree it isn't really needed for games with isometric views.

The card multisamples the pixes by 2/4/8/16 times the resolution setting.. then scales the image down to the right size to fit the monitor. This way every edge where you generally see the saw cut is smooth line. In higher resolutions, you generally need a lot lower anti-aliasing (2/4) to make it look at lot better already. Thats how I understand it at least.
And yeah every game has options for anti-aliasing and your graphic card driver control panel also has options for these.. generally it is by default: let the program decide.
I would appreciate anti-aliasing being included as an option in Diablo 3, and will be surprised if it isn't included.

who cares if you crappy computer cant handle it, when OnLive comes out, it wont matter if you have a crappy computer or not, it will all be instant from a server.
Yeah, we're getting anti-aliasing.
They're going to implement it eventually, Bashiok basically confirmed this in one of his recent posts.

I somehow doubt the promises OnLive makes, not to mention that it's only in 720p.

I don't think it matters if they include a setting for AA or not, its just like if they do or don't include a setting for VSync
You should be able to just force it on via your graphics drivers control panel
Which I think Dimebog said
It would be rather stupid if they didn't include the option though. It would be like not including shader, shadow, texture, lighting, etc options which vary from low to high in the game settings. This is a 3D game
Agreed.... only including gamma/contrast was fine back in the days of D2, now we'll need some of the more advanced graphics options to keep up with other games.
I actually didn't know you could force it from the Control panel though, thanks for the heads up ^^.

I agree, there is no reason for them not to include an option to turn AA on. Why should they decide what my computer is capable of rendering? If my computer is powerful enough to process AA (Which really isn't a big deal with most newer cardes anyways now) why shouldn't I have the option to enable it?
I feel that mots companies that leave this option out are just being lazy and force me to turn it on manually, which I find to be just a bit of a pain. It doesn't matter in the end of course because you can always force AA through your video cards profile system. Whether its ATI or Nvidia it doesn't matter.
I don't think Blizzard is lazy enough to not include an AA option. I would also hope they would include an AF option, but for some reason not many games include that one either. I don't get it really.

Why wouldnt it? its like a very very common graphics option in pretty much every game involving polygons for many years now. You have no worries
