I dunno about you guys but I never really understood in D2 why some armour (say chest armour) had 3 times the strength requirement for a comparitively small increase in defence.
I would like to see a better reason to use high def/str armour. I realize for barbs it doesnt matter much because the strength is going to be there anyway.
E.g. Heavy armor can have inherent mods like +life or damage reduction.
I hope in the least that blizz makes defence vary more reasonably with strength. Or maybe defence is going to be behave differently in D3?

Apparently freezing yourself is fatal. HOW ARE YOU PEOPLE COPING?!
Go to the arreat summit website, there is a section that explains about the D2 armors.... Basically, some of them are light and some are heavy...
Also, you could get a max base def low str armor, then get a minimum def high str armor, and their defense would be almost the same... Its about quality, weight (although is not mentioned in game), and looks...

Thats right. So armors like Breast Plate and Light Plate gives a very good defense for its STR req.
But i thunk that items will work very different in D3. Through the basic intention will remain the same: some equipament will naturally be better for some class, but we still have a broad horizon of possibilities.
I understand how armour works. You got my point exactly. Heavy and light armours could be almost the same defence yet huge str req differences. its stupid.
And not necessarily a linear correlation but close to one.
Also what I meant my defence behaving differently is maybe is wont be chance to hit but rather damage reduction or something like that. As far as I know autostats arent confirmed yet. I have a whole rant on autostats that I will be posting soon. I think there are some very good points against it and the ones for it (by blizz) are weak.

Autostats is confirmed. It's the kind of stuff that involves the whole disign of the game... So every item, every skill, every class they creat are based at the auto stats. So it's really hard to change it because it would change everything tehy've created so far.
I'm not trying to defend auto stats here.. I understand this desing option that blizz made, still, I think they could make better by adding a good and balanced stats system.

Faded out her voice and soiled her name
And like marked pages in a diary
Everything seemed clean that is unstained
The incoherent talk of ordinary days
Why would we really need to live?
Decide what is clear and what's within a haze
What you should take and what to give" - Opeth

I don't think its a matter of defense behaving differently in Diablo 3, its strength, due to the autostats. Hmm
