So you're asking how long do we think the ladder seasons will last for D3? Cause it sounds to me like you're just asking about D2. And you'll have to wait either for a mod to delete or move the thread.
I think a better question will be how the ladder is going to work in D3 rather then if there will be one or not. I mean the first to level 99 is a really dumb way to rank people if you ask me
I don't ladder will be in D3, and I have to say I'm quite happy about that.
I don't like having seperate players, ladder and non-ladder. Doesn't make any sense, besides measuring e-penises who first got to lvl 99. It's just plain dumb.
Yeah I feel the same way(as you can see in my post above) I personally think the achievements should be the ladder this time around, like who has the most and stuff maybe? I dunno just a thought...and of course theres gotta be a nice organized pvp ladder
lol, I never said the first to 99 or maybe 100 means end of ladder, I am just curious how long the ladder was in D2, and how long you expect it, or want it in D3.
it's stupid to rank people on level, there will be a level 100 after maybe 1-3 months, depending on what type of nerd and how little of a life he has.
I don't think I can physically sit for 2 months straight to play DiabloIII, I would have to be sent to the hospital. As much as I love DiabloIII, a few hours at a time, is the most I can sit without a break.
Back to the topic..lol

For those reasons pointed by kafka, xxlaw and darkmagicc that i'm not sure if we going to have a ladder system.
To be honest i never liked D2 multiplayer... runs, ladder, rush, mh, bot, dupes...I never ascepted those flaws.
So, for me, D3 need a huge improvement in temr sof multiplayer.

Well we will have, if I remember correctly 99% (picked the number out of my head for those people who ask) chance we will have a ladder. Jay, and Bashiok have mentioned it a few times.
Unless they decide that there is a better system..
The way the ladder works is that people start, create characters, gather items, trade items, and switch items between their characters. Then you could get help by high level characters to level you up.
In D2 (since I can't compare D3) Once there are high level characters there is rushing because there are high level characters. There are MANY good items out in the game economy.
Ladder gives you a rank. when it is reset, all ladders are moved to non-ladder, where there is no rank.
Ladder can now start over, with no items, no characters. Some people see it as a time to try to be ranked in the top 10. I see it as a time when I replay all the missions again, and actually play the game, instead of rushing...

When a few people have reached 99, the ladder is just a showboat for the ones that have accomplished being in it. Meaning it will most likely be filled in a few weeks. After those weeks, the ladders are a bit useless.
How about multiple ladders.
-99 First
-99 least played time
-99 first HC
-Etc etc etc

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t...
Well 99 first exist, 99 first HC exist, and 99 least played time would be filled by mules so imo that's also useless. Personally I think characters could also be ranked by gold.
Yes. Gold. I can see that you're thinking none wanted or needed gold at all in d2. It was all about item-for-item, later for pgems and the really hc players used only pskulls, and so on and so forth. Blues, definitely expected something more from gold, they created even the gambling system, and don't you loose gold when dying so for sc players that might be another challenge for staying up high. I know gold wasn't much in d2, but I don't think that's the way they designed it.
Ladders by level always sucked for me
And to further improve the usefulness of gold, I'd love to see an auction houses implemented into chat, or anywhere else in fact, and gambling improved (which in d2 almost never gave any good stuff). But there has been a lot of talk on behalf of the d3 economy.
Of course, if gold becomes useful for buying and trading (and I *know* that your gear in diablo is supposed to come from drops, but still love the aspect) some high ranked players might loose their rank after doing some trade - and I don't think that's a bad thing since it promotes the drops as sources of good items and it gives some variability to ladder systems - ladders could be organized by full values in gold (including gear & inventory values in gold etc.)
Apart from that, I think blizz should consider multiple ladders, and ladder resets every 8-10 months (seriously, you needed maximum of 5 months of dedicated play for level 99 without taxi - extra months just to enjoy your top position, but just for a short period of time ;))
I personally think that the ladder that Diablo 2 had was badly done.
It only counted the first people to 99.
On top of that i did not like the fact that characters in the ladder season were able to do more than normal characters.
Such as some items could not be found w/out being in ladder, and runes could not be upgraded up to a sertin point after unless in ladder.
I really have no idea what could be done to improve the ladder system. It should be more based on say Duels or the number of times a character has killed a boss by them selfs, or something along those lines.
Something that is somewhat easy to do yet fun and does not have a end to it. Meaning once so many players reached 99 it was over basically.
Couldn't get on the ladder if you tried. So by making it how many boss' or how many players you have killed in pvp would be a better form of a ladder because there is no end to it, and the end would be when its about to reset.

I don't think you understood the least played.
Obviously a mule doesn't go to 99. And obviously least played means that it will be ranked by how quickly you get to 99. In HOURS(days) played. This will then be an ongoing ladder where the ladder junkies keep trying to improve their played time.

Sry for that then
That would be a good idea, but I still don't like ranking by level.
EDIT:
Like the play counter, that is, it could be still used even if ladder wouldn't be organized by levels.

It would be nice to have a ladder that's based on PvP tournies, with limitations to how many you could join every month (6 tournies/month, can only join 2 of those), and level limitations as well =D

Would it be 12 months? More? Less?
And you have a bad habit of posting stuff in the wrong sections of the forum.

Do you know that for sure? Has someone making the game told you? Or are you just guessing?
We don't know what is and isn't getting in the game at the end. So who knows.
I can't really back anything I say on this subject up, thats why I posted this thread as a question..
but i'm sure people would want to play on a ladder.
