Bashiok answered someone about these runes, and said this:

As always, we show things for a reason. The runes were shown to show off the new look and make it clear where they fit into the skills now (as their shape has changed), but also to show that a few of them have been renamed.
Multistrike is now Hydra
Lethality is now Viper
Power is now Force
He says that a few of them have been renamed. Does this mean that there are more/will be more than these three?
Also, I don't know about these names. I always sorta liked words like power, multistrike, etc. in D2. Tell me what you think about this also.
Yeah those three runes were all specific to the wizard skill similar to chain lightning, can't remember what they're calling it in d3. There will be specific rune sets for each skill.
Ehh, I have mixed feelings about these. I definately liked Lethality better than Viper. Viper just reminds me of Act II from D2 and it wouldnt be fit to drop anywhere else than in a desert or jungle maybe. And Hydra just screams WC3 in my head
Hydra rune fits well with the wizard since she is the next gen sorceress who has a skill called the hydra. I think the names blizzard choses helps bridge the gap between D2 and D3.
Eh, I could care less about the names. I thought Viper would be poison too. What they actually do is more my concern...well they will have more than 3 for sure. I think the names are more "cool" sounding if you ask me.

Unless I leave an actaul Hydra in my wake when I teleport (which would actually be pretty cool hehe), I prefer multistrike. Especially since I'm assuming the same rune will be used with other classes' skills, it would make more sense to go with multistrike.

Viper kinda throws me off, cause when I think Viper I think poison.
I concur.

I think what would be cool for Runes is if they had ones where you could change your damage type. Like for instance you put an Ice rune in Fireball and it does cold damage, and the color changes from red to blue. If they were lazy, they could just use saturization I guess but even cooler if they had a bunch of different animations for these.
Actually, I kinda like this idea. If done properly, it would add a whole new aspect of custimization. Properly being the operative word. I think I would have to try it out to be sure, though, it's kinda risky.

No. There will be 7-8 different rune types (and each will have 3-4 tiers of quality) and they will be used by all skills and all characters. I hope no-one reads your post on the first page and starts spreading the misinformation. But that's what's gonna happen anyway.

Yes, that is possible. Look at the new screens, the armor has an extra exp attribute.
How can you modify your skill behavior with armour and exp attributes? Do you even think before you post?

I think he was just saying that since there was an armor that added to experience, that maybe they would add in a rune that would give you more exp if you killed monsters with the skill it was used on.
At least that's what I thought he was talking about.

my religion.....

Not a huge deal though.
I guess they wanted sort of a "mascot" for each rune.
Venom could be used for "Poison".
Altho. I think if they did that they wouldn't bother and just keep it Poison.

I wonder what a Major Viper and Major Hydra rune do to a skill...
Viper makes me think of snakes and fast attacks...
