As long as we're talking about talented people, I wouldn't discriminate anyone.
The dungeon theme from D3 (the one on the New Tristram page) made me a believer. It's more lively and exciting than D2 tracks, and just about as gloomy and sinister and hectic as D1 and D2 tracks.
The orchestral parts seem to be darker and structurally deeper than LoD tracks, and they also reference the most distinctive parts of the previous soundtracks so that's a big plus.
I have the Wrath of the Lich King Soundtrack that he worked on, and man, that is some awesome shit!
Quoted for truth. Arguably the best soundtrack for a game ever. Probably after Diablo 1 and Starcraft though, but they don't have as many tracks so it's a tough competition.
EDIT: Oh! And Warcraft 2! That was some great shit... Blizzard really does have the best composers.
I wouldn't go with any of those three.... Danny Elfman gives film scoring a bad name by only writing melodies and passing the rest off to assistants/arrangers; John Williams would could definately write a score for the game but I feel it would almost be too epic (and too costly).

My vote goes to Phillip Glass.
There's actually only 1 L in the Philip of Philip Glass. He's more of abstract, mellow composer and I don't think he's cut out for the moods and themes that Diablo 3 is going to present, nor do I think he'd even agree with them.
For those of you who don't know who he is and want to, check out Koyaanisqatsi.
I don't know who that last guy is, but Danny Elfman or John Williams? Are you crapping down my mouth? I mean, you're either trying to be kind of funny or you are just a crazy person. Why on earth would I ever want those corny, campy composers to defile my beloved game series with their filth? Danny Elfman is only good at making Tim Burton's movies seem even stupider and John Williams is one of the most overrated composers of our time. Jerry Goldsmith's scores make John William's scores look like pedestrian recorder music.
Diablo's music sounds as good as it is without having to resort to big industry names.
All of Zimmer's stuff is good, but it all sounds the same. He actually used the same score for two movies at one point: Pitch Black and Red Planet have the exact same soundtracks. Just play Pirates next to Gladiator and you'll see what I mean.
Also, not fitting for Diablo.
I'm probably not going to agree with anyone for the duration of this thread.
Well I liek Ennio Morricone, but that doesn't mean that he would compose good music for D3.
It doesn't matter if the artist's good, there's only one way to do this job properly, and Blizzard obviously knows what they are doing and who they are hiring.

I was just being hypothetical. I didn't say I wanted any of these 3 composers to do it. I meant what if there were only these three guys to choose from, who would you pick?
And John Williams is definitely not overrated.

Someone should get an interview with him and find out wtf's up.

I wonder if he knows there still is so much appreciation for his composition of Tristram. He's a god...

Hans Zimmer.
Yep. That's the guy.
He's good at what he does and I think he could do GREAT things with the world of Sanctuary.

Imagine this song (godly Cliff Burton) right before you faced off against Big D.
