The pyramid of khufu was built in 120 years and probably took many times more stones to create it that the church of tristram considering its unbelievable mass coupled with its lack of inner chambers. Somewhere I heard that the tile sets in the original gameplay trailer were just a mock up. I doubt that the church of tristram will be built into a mountain with a skull entrance.Perhaps the powers of the nephalem are starting to return... A team of Uldyssians could probably build that church in a day.
they dont move as fast as superman.... ugh the books make me sick.... heresy... i cant believe no one else sees this

Num3n, it's not you who determine what belongs and what not belongs to Sanctuary.
Remenber D2 Act 5. The old team allready started to make those epic sized objects and buildings. In Arreat Summit we are in a ancient keep-temple on the top of a gelid montain nad we can see everything down there like shows some of the posted pictures.
In the throne of destruction we face baal in a castle platform builded over a abyss where the freaking huge world stone rest.
I really want understand you ppl who thinks D2 are just act 1 Catacombs.
i never took that chamber as being built by humans... i took it as being built by some unseen force.
* by the way, im fairly certain that we as humans are capable of with what information we have, conclude what type of buildings were possible by what we have seen so far. We have seen the largest trading center in all of sanctuary, made rich by the huge amount of trade (why not huge have massive towers or other assortments of buildings?, why is everything in the realm of possibility... because that is diablo...) We have also seen the capital of the barbarians, these arent barbarians as we know them they arent stupid, and yet their buildings are no more grand than that of lut gholein.
every building so far in the diablo games (1 and 2) has existed within the realm of possibility. Each building had its counterpart in medieval Europe or the Middle East...
and now with the rise of d3, and some artists eager to impress, we now see huge fucking things.... thats right... huge fucking things... impossible to build by the standards we have seen so far. (ie that of d1 and d2)
That makes a lot of sense, but I'm still kind of torn on the whole subject. On one hand, I want to see massive cities, sprawling 100 miles in diameter and towers hundreds of feet high, with the most intricate detail covering every square inch.
But on the other hand, I want it to be as realistic as possible. I think this is a give a little take a little area. The game devs will hopefully make a compromise, and make things big, but not so big that they are larger than the empire state building.
Ferret makes a good point...it's been 20 years since Diablo 2. Don't you think society had time to make things look better and build new structure? Don't you even remember the palace in act 2 how measly it was; I mean they were limited with the graphics back then; like so many people have mentioned. And as far as the books being heresy; Blizzard said they are now considered cannon. Also most of them don't even have squat to do with the games and the mention of Uldyssian is from the Sin War which was way before Diablo 1 even happened. I wonder why some people even bother to be on here if all they are going to do is going to complain? Yeesh..
Blood_Fox's post really says alot of what I think as well, especially dealing with this pic. I agree I love the medieval look more, but as for this type of scenery not being in diablo you are completely wrong. Act 2 in D2, this is exactly what I would picture the palace to look like. Oh and just because you did not see something in Diablo/D2 does not mean it can never ever be there at some other point. As long as the story backs up the scenery and blizz doesnt give up pink elephants, its all good to me.
i find it depressing that no one else things the same thing i do... especially since i believe so whole heartedly that it should be changed.
and as i said before, i simply dont think it possible for men to build such things.... magic or no...
i just always liked diablo because i found it believable..." like if demons existed this would really happen! damn i love this game.." etc i always liked how it was so reminiscent of medieval Europe and the middle east.
imo it now seems like lotr except mordor has been replaced with the burning hells...
very very nice display of castles. and i suppose i forgot how awesome some looked. however still none come even close to the one cut out of that rock face.
if we had castles like the ones you posted i would be 100% fine with it.
*edit- looking back at the images i posted i will agree that the third one is acceptable.
exactly. What is wrong with Num3n. Dude for one its a frikkin video game. Do you know how boring it would be if everything was 100% believable on todays standard? and its still believable (the city of ureh), but yeah not as common. But its frikkin cool! And it was probably there way before those 20 years. Quit complaining about awesome artwork that portrays what simply will be awesome game play areas.
BTW, thats what i feel lacked in Zelda: Tp, they didn't have those cool levels that felt epic to me. IDk thats just me.

Maybe there is a reason no one else sees that... Maybe your insane... Even without being nephalem the people obviously have more potential to be stronger and faster in the world of Sanctuary than they do in the real world. Especially with all the vendors selling enchanted wares that give strength and faster run/walk.
And btw I'm quite sure there will be a bit more towns(quest areas) this time. There could be these huge cities but also some smaller towns in each act we get to visit. So the game probably isn't all big epic castles and cities, maybe thers a little bit of D2 small town feeling in it also.
wasn't Ureh built by angels as an outpost for heaven? i think somewhere in the books it talks about Ureh's creation.

I just looked it up and (i didn't read the spoiler section) i guess with the help of sorcerers in the area it held a portal to heaven. SO yes this is the "long lost gate to the heavens" in a sense. Pretty awesome place if you ask me, and I'm glad they have it in Diablo 3...well probably have it in.

you know what would be awesome, laser beams in diablo instead of arrows.... and lightsabers instead of swords... the more awesome and epic everything is, automatically means the game will rock... >_>

Okay, this looks pretty big to me! Te thing is, if they made Lut Gholein this big in game, it would take quite some time to load it! Everything in DII was smaller due to the graphics restriction! With today's technology, they can make some things a little bigger! Has anyone seen the screenshot of the Wizard in front of the Tristram Cathedral? The Cathedral is way bigger than in D1! It's just the graphics, nothing more!
Oh, and concerning Ureh (the Minas-Tirith-looking-town), it was stated somewhere that it has been deserted for a long time! When I say long time, I don't mean 20, 50 or 100 years, I mean way longer!
dude apparently you have no idea what im talking about... the city is large in area but buildings dont reach into space... its all very realistic and possible. some good sized walls around the city, some tall buildings and then then some regular sized huts for houses

indeed it does....im sure in other parts of the game you will find generic interiors we have seen in prior games tho
but whatever iv said my piece and by now you will either agree or not...
