Since the demo has been reported to have auto stats how would we change our mana/health value?
One idea i have is that the elixers of vitality and willpower will give us more health or mana. Lets say... 10hp per bottle. This would provide decent health but they'd have to be rarish to prevent over powering.
So this is just an idea ive got, post your opinions.

Gear. Its how it works in WoW and its what makes people look different in the game according to specs and such decisions. You'll have to use items that add stats according to spec and play style.
i dont think it was just for the demo. I think stat requirements from items will also be removed (more or less) and simply the stats added on each item will indicate if they're better for one class or the other.
it works perfectly well that way.

Elixers have no place here. No matter how rare you make them, anything that you can find an unlimited source of that permanently boosts your stats, no thanks.
Also it would be pointless for blizzard to disable the feature of stat distribution for the demo. Personally I found stat points to be more of a hassle than "fun". I could care less if they were removed.
I really really hope that the stats auto allocation is just part of the demo. I fear it is not. I have read many statements that ask me to embrace blizzard's chance. I simply cannot do this. Allocating my stats was a big part of the game for me. I had the choice of whether I wanted to spend the points in strength to wear that sweet ass archon plate or go a little lower and sacrifice defense for a little more vitality or a better block chance. I feel that if they keep the auto stat I will be forced to wear items of a certain quality. I would like to be able to allocate my own stats how I see fit. If I screw my character up in the process then I remake and I learn from that mistake. I think it is great what they are doing with the skill rune concept. It is seriously a cool idea. The auto stat idea is a terrible one. I may have to wait for more info to come out about it but as I see it now. It looks like I will stuck bewtween a rock and a hard place and unable to wear a heavier armor than what the game tells me I should. This is rediculous. I want to be able to make my toon unique in that respect. If they made it so you could spec the stats how you'd like as well as specialize your skills with runes then that would add another layer of uniqueness to my character. As it is they have replaced one feature that allows customization for another. I want to have my cake and eat it too. Blizzard please don't make this a permanent feature. It will ruin this game in my and many others opinions from what I have gathered so far.

Personally i think that this new automatic stat system is better than D2' system but a manual stat system WITH rebalanced stat effects would be better.
The inability to make one to conform to a WoW system of character development will kill the game for me. I don't want WoW with a different interface/story, I want Diablo 3.
I personally feel that the auto-stat system is much more solid, in terms of you can't mess up your character in the process of leveling
but at the same time..
if we are able to respec our stats, then we are all each just going to have 5 characters and will have no need to remake new ones, unless you just want to restart from 0

Maybe the auto stat feature will be affected by how you play the game so a barb would do most of his fighting in close quarters with his weapons so when he levels his stats will level in the attributes he used the most?? i dont know just a guess
Terrible idea. Any permanent stat increase item that can be found/used unlimitedly, no matter how rare, will utterly destroy the game. Stat point distributions were fair to everyone--this favors 24/7 farmers and botters who will hoard colossal amounts of these potions and get open Bnet levels of health.

I really like the autostat system. As it has been noted (dozens of times), almost every ended up with roughly the same stats in the end anyways. But that isn't my biggest argument in favour of it. Autostats, especially with the newly improved stats which are more specific and important than in diablo 2--which are pretty confirmed to not be just for the demo, and items no long have stat requirements but are based off level, class, and possibly combination of something else--will allow the designers to better balance the game. They will be able to understand, roughly, where each character is at certain areas of the game and adjust rewards accordingly. This also puts more emphasis on customization through randomized equipment; we may no longer find ourselves all speced the exact same at the end of the game, because we will be changing our character to fit our playstyle through tradeoffs in gear. Along that same lines, it is also confirmed that there are a couple systems they haven't even announced which could further add to customization (speculation: there was a talisman that was inactive during the demo, but this may be able to be equipped with runes or other items that adds specific stat bonuses).
Having elixers is a big NoNo. It's been explained why, so I won't go into it too much, but I'll add that it will also cripple the economy because higher end characters will desperately seek out these elixers (especially considering that stats add things like SPELL DAMAGE).
In Diablo 3 the only way to modify your stats that you have control over is by the equipment you wear.
And you can wear any equipment you please, so instead of your stats dictating what gear you can wear, your gear will dictate what stats you will have. More experimentation, less limitation.
Have to agree with the elixer idea NOT being implemented..its already been stated previously why. Only if its obtainable from ONE time reward quests ,at most once per difficulty like d2 does. As for the auto stat feature I can go along with because lets face it. Unless you read some kind of guide before even touching your first character in diablo you TRASHED it. We all did, and to say you never screwed over your first character or made alteast one major mistake is bogus and you know it :P.
Now I said i can "go along" with it because it does save the ubernooblets (which we all are at some point in any game) from making a character not worthy of the time it takes you to click the "delete" button and confirm it. However, it would be nice to be able to turn that feature off so that at some point we could kick off the training wheels.
Alot of people are also going along with this "majority of players end up with the same stats from cookie-cutter build guides "arguement as well. Simply put it that way and you have a misleading "statistic" i guess you could say. In diablo its very uncommon to see some one with just ONE class. Most players will make a really strong cookie-cutter build to get good gear etc for other characters they are making. I gaurantee you that most of this majority had some crazy wacked out build they were doing while not on their "main" for kicks.
It pretty much comes down to choice, which is what i think blizzard should give us on big controversial issues like this. At some point you will want to do some experimenting and think outside the box. It helps mix things up (increased replay value) and simply satisfies our human curiosity.

strenght: for equipment
dex: for block
vitality: everything else
energy: 0
so there was not that much customization at the end

unless the ladder is reset frequently? i dunno.
totally agree with you...
i will miss the D2 system
