Dimeblog it isnt about being selfish. It's about being unrealistic. Your so good at being apocaliptic about your premonitions for D3 when nothing of the sort has ever happened before. Its ludicrous for you to assume that the competitiveness of D3 will be gone after a few days of launch when it's still competitive today 10 years after its launch (D2 I mean). Your prophesizing the impossible and its just useless to do so. No one will believe the theory that a game of such a caliber will not deliver a competitiveness when its already proven to do so.
Second, noone is forcing you to do anything. If u dont wanna trade then fine by you. Your the one being selfish by stating that I shouldnt be alowed to trade since u dont feel the need for it and believe that others will take advantage of this system in effect. Thats life big boy, people do take advantage of everything, buyt you can't go off and live on yoru own little "Pure" island and take EVERYONE with you just cause you feel the world is unfair...Thats childish... I dont go off stating we should remove this and that... who are you kidding. If someone like you came to my trading game I'm betting 5 bucks you would be leave empty handed.

The game doesn't reward hard work - it rewards item buyers. That concept doesn't seem too competitive to me. If nothing - let me tag myself as a non-trader at least so I can have some dignity and bragging rights... I would seriously settle for that.

I'll give you last word but let me just state this last fact. The system does reward legit p[layer and not item buyers. Because (and agreeing with you indirectly on this) item buyers will have the items without working for them which is totally meaningless and will take the fun out opf the game faster for THEM! not for you. So unless your idea of competitiveness and fun is playing hardcore hours on D3 and having items that other folks cant or dont have then I get ya. But if your playing as legit and as pure as u seem to be inclined to do, then Your long hours of MFing and questing will reward you in fact by giving you hopefully what you were looking for. Why is that less honorable?
I would acknowledge your feats even more then since you would be part of a minority inside a realm of buyers which makes you appear even more legit than if you were playing in a Pure system that would force everyone to be the same as you.

Well I'll value myself more but what's the use in the long run? Eventually I would probably resort to buying items myself because I do not want to fall behind those who do. I can't say I really blame people who do it. I condemn the fact that it's possible. See D3 even has the 'inspect' function. What's the use? "Wow nice - IK set, how much did you pay for that?" -"Dude I spend 100 hours working for that" -"Ah right, *wink wink*"
Not to mention that they are planning to make D3 PvP as a supported and balanced feature that will make it into esports. Who do you think would not resort to a shortcut to making their PvP build?
I cant beieve people are still arguing about this. people are gonna buy items or find some way of cheating so theres no sense in complaining. And if any of you are like me and work for all your items instead of buying them then just be proud to call yourself a true GAMER.
Perhaps if it were spiced up, say when you made a new character you could check the 'lonewolf' tickbox and make the character a 'lonewolf' who won't trade at all but has some minor innate advantage that non lonewolves will never have...
Great idea! That way the community wouldn't be split into 4 (assuming HC is in).
EDIT: This version of pure mode also makes sense, and is kind of like lone wolf mode without the name. "Pure" mode sounds a bit too self-righteous imo (And this is coming from someone who would have at least one, maybe more lonewolf/pure mode chars)

Pure mode as I imagine it: a pure ACCOUNT cannot RECEIVE items. There is no reason why donating items to non pure-mode accounts should be prohibited. You can give away, but you can't receive.
Of course you would be allowed to exchange items between different chars on one pure account. So if you find a nice item with your witch-doctor that is great for your barb and they are on the same account, you will be allowed to transfer it.
I also see no reason, why pure-mode and non pure-mode players should'nt play together, as the drop system in D3 will allow it. As a pure player you would'nt be allowed to see items other players drop, that is all. So there does'nt have to be a "commuity split" although I'd welcome it, as the community will be TOO F*CKING BIG ANYWAY.
The basic idea is that you can only use self-found/bought items on a pure account.
EDIT EDIT:
There are 2 major themes in this thread. 1) farmers/cheaters and broken economis/bought items, and 2) the pure mode / lonewolf concept.
I doubt D3 will be cheat free. But I'm still going to have some characters that will trade, just for the fun of it. However, I would also want at least one of my chars to be a lonewolf, just for the official recognition that I in fact worked for all of my items for that character. (Just like having a living HC char officially recognizes the fact that you've never died once)
By having this mode, and assuming I'll be able to play with people who aren't using this mode (I don't want a mode that will split up the community), I'm not really affecting their gameplay in any major way. Pure/lonewolf mode is completely voluntary, I'm not forcing other people to stop trading just because they might be using farmed items. So why not have this option?
We got a bit sidetracked with BoEs, anti-farming measures, etc. but that's not what this thread is about.
...This reminds me a little bit of D1 when I was a legit player and would have to find legit games or could join non-legit ones. Only now you could see lonewolf/puremode-only PVP games for example...
Basically, a lonewolf character would not have to be separated on a different realm (like Hardcore), he could mingle with characters from the regular world, but just not trade with them.
He would be distinguishable to other players as being a lonewolf, either by title, or color, or something. And giving him a small minor benefit for not being able to trade, but being in the same world as everyone else who trades for their items...well thats cool. I think Lonewolf characters should have some base bonus to their MF since they can never trade.
Have anyone though about dropping an item on the floor as alternative to "trading" (just like diablo 1). Even if that is banned, people can just use your account to farm the items. Whatever it is. Its not going to work. Might as well don't play the game if you're so offended by trading related stuff. It will make the game virtually un-playable and boring.
Hell, just do single player no online. This pure mode is just stupid.

I agree with everything you just said.
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
Say your friend is new and you want to give them armor, you can't. it sucks IMO.
You mean, like communism?
