This is probably ancient news but when you combine cubed Unity with Unity on follower equipped with 'cannot die', GR mob difficulty scales through the roof. I tried the Unity trick earlier and nearly ever mob I encountered was almost twice as tough as before I implemented this gimmick.
Great way to gain XP, not so great for pushing GR levels...
Interesting. I randomly checked a couple dozen on the Monk leader board and could not find one example. For me the difference before and after cubing Unity was like throwing a bullet vs. shooting a bullet. Perhaps I unwittingly uncovered some other potential balance issue but I always thought Blizz was pretty good with (mostly anyway) character balance.
so i am positive ill be flamed for this but idc, i just wish they would either rework or remove CoE, i am so tired of this ring being mandatory in almost every single dps build to be competitive there is NOTHING fun about waiting for your element to come up
give at least 1 example of a "fun" ring instead? orotz comes to mind which is also a very good ring (used in top solo barb and solo wizard builds in S4 but in those cases also very dull... especially in the wizards archon case)
many builds can work around the CoE proc (e.g. especially the FoK DH) which is gameplay wise much more interesting than anything else a ring can provide.
you are right that there should be a slightly better alternative when you just seek for increasing you dmg output (like a flat 55-60% dmg increase) so that you dont just wait for the proc and have a more reliable constant dmg increase.

Even if other rings aren't more fun (nor even more boring), there's absolutely no choice in most builds when it comes to rings. That's the annoying part. That being said, WD rings are a good example of how rings can be made fun. Flavor stuff (more or less minions) while still being very competitive.
other classes also have competetive rings. e.g. halo of arlyse for wizards (and even new storm armor ring with the next patch). also other classes now have competetive class specific rings but mostly in the form of a simple dmg reduction buff if using x-skill to compete with unity and other strong ring setups.
and yes there will always be one best setup. like there always was. but the options are far more competetive and interesting compared to few seasons ago (where there was only rorg + soj grp, rorg + unity solo. nothing else even close)
Sorry if I was not clear. Before cubing Unity I could solo GR 65 most of the time. As soon as I cubed Unity my character was noticeably tougher but the Grift mobs for any given level suddenly became orders of magnitude tougher. Before cubing Unity I had cleared 65 in less than 13 minutes. After cubing Unity, beating GR 63 is 50/50 and sometimes I'll start the map with lasers dropping at the entrance. It took almost 18 minutes to clear 64 last time I tried.
Build changes to cube Unity were:
1. Swap cubed Leoric's crown for cubed Crudest Boots.
2. Replace formerly equipped Crudest Boots with Ancient Inna's boots.
3. By equipping Inna's boots I was then able to swap cubed RORG for cubed Unity.
My sheet stats are virtually unchanged save a 1% change in movement speed (adjusted for by reallocating 2 paragon points) and +- 5% CHC/CHD
Certainly my CDR dropped a bit but reduced CDR should not suddenly cause a map to spawn twice as many mobs that drop lasers/poison/whatever if you don't two-shot them.
Just for grins I "uncubed" unity and replaced with Zodiac ring. Just finished GR63 in a little over 11 minutes. I'm done for now and all is probably a coincidence but just seems peculiar that few Monks (if any) on the Leaderboard use Unity in cube.
so i am positive ill be flamed for this but idc, i just wish they would either rework or remove CoE, i am so tired of this ring being mandatory in almost every single dps build to be competitive there is NOTHING fun about waiting for your element to come up
I would generally agree with you; however, in the case of crusaders CoE and Bombardment builds line up perfectly and create an engaging "rotation".
What you are describing, OP, is known as map RNG, which can generally lead to a 5 GR difference (GR fishing exists for a reason). You can see this all the times - Your farm run took an extra 5 minutes due to low mob/elite density, stuff like that.
Losing 12.5% CDR can actually make a difference, as it means less usage on Mystic Ally. If you are using Inna's Diabo, its a loss in damage.

To each their own, but how is stacking CDR 'till Bombartment is <1 lower CD than the 12 sec rotation of CoE gives Physical again engaging? You either have the CDR or you don't. That goes for a lot of builds though and I honestly can't judge, as I like the Invoker build the most. The latter is obviously boring for a lot of people as well.
I lost 12.5% CDR when I uncubed Leoric's but gained back 8% by replacing a CDR-less Traveler's Pledge amulet with an 8% CDR Hellfire amulet and I am not using Inna's Daibo. Since CDR appears to be multiplicative my 'sheet' CDR dropped from 68.65 to 66.something. The ironic thing is that by cubing the Zodiac ring my CDR in-game is actually improved. I've posted my build here. Just for grins I removed the Zodiac ring from the cube for Unity last night and experienced identical phenomenon, lasers at the entrance about half the time and all over the map the rest of the time. I believe the odds of this being due to RNG are infinitesimal now.
More likely this is just an issue with my particular build because I've cubed Unity before and did not have this problem. I am going to Youtube this anomaly because it is almost jaw dropping.

I will not flame you for this, I think your premise makes sense.
Where I disagree is that it has to be Convention of Elements. I personally think the issue is Focus and Restraint allowing double damage by 1 click 2 click repeat methods. More so, because it requires two of the three jewelry sockets, just like travelers pledge, which I also dislike with extreme fashion.
If it were up to me, we would not have dual jewelry sets aside from LoN. LoN is the first UNIQUE set in the jewelry sockets that actually change the game and create innovative play styles, and that is pretty freaking amazing if you ask me.

So, is there an increase in boss difficulty/exp bonus, or are you hamstringing yourself with cubing the unity?
