Actually, you're wrong there buddy, I've already stated many times that I don't give a crap how the game turns up as. Dark, bright, colorful - I don't care as long as it plays good, which it will obviously. I refuse to derail the current production of this game for something so trivial, step outside for a moment, what do you see? COLORS.
Then someone will say "but the other games were dark and that is what made them great" or "this is our game we should be able to complain about it"or something to that effect and the cycle will begin again.

Some say that those who want diablo 3 to remain true to the franchise, nothing like wow, are waging a "war on color". That argument is patently false. The diablo 2 world abounded in color from spells, flames, boss attacks, and creature colors/clothing. What it did not have was lighting that looks like it came out of the scooby doo movie, or fairyland glow effects that blur what should be crisp and disgusting textures. What if the art direction isn't the only area in which diablo 3 resembles WoW?[/B'] When fans voice a legitimate concern, such as a fundamental flaw in art and stylistic direction, it doesn't mean they complain just for the sake of complaining. We simply fear that this "new Blizzard" may fail to produce a worthy sequel to the best game of all time.

What if I asked you a completely irrelevant question?
That's the most relevant question of all. If there is absolutely no WoW influence in Diablo 3 other than the art direction, I'll shut the fuck up and enjoy a fantastic game that looks alright. My fear, a fear that many other rational critics of the art direction share, is that Diablo 3 may have many more aspects in common with WoW than just art.

"What if" questions are always irrelevant. Not to mention that it is in fact off topic.

That may be the most unreasonable thing I've ever heard anyone say. Analyzing contingencies is a critical part of life. I'm absolutely shocked you just said that.

So what am I supposed to draw from that contingency? What if its not the only aspect? Well, then it will be more wowish. So what?
Analyzing contingencies is not a crucial part of life in the least, do you think barnacles analyze contingencies? Human life as we know it? Sure I'll give you that, but life in general, no.

Barnacles? What the fuck are you talking about. Of course I'm talking about human life. Anticipating every possibility is essential to success in any academic or business endevour.
What if questions are only irrelevant when there is no reasonable possibility that the situation they describe will ever be realized. That is absolutely not the case when I speak of Diablo 3 possibly being similar to WoW.

What if we didn't pick the worst possible outcome and bitch non-stop about it.
More likely is that the team that produced WoW, the abomination, and whose unfortunate style has transferred itself onto Diablo 3 will taint other aspects of the franchise in addition to its art direction.

i got to say i agree to all of his comments. especially the last one. I think they're making one hell of a game in California... if they manage to make it balanced and the storyline is good enough we'll have something to do for the next decade.
edit
please stop talking about WoW. Diablo 3 has taken far less from WoW than WoW from Diablo. Hell, even the classes (even the ones about to come) have spells taken from Diablo 2.
Like the brand new Death Knight has Corpse Explosion and Bone Armor.
Diablo 3 looks slightly more cartoony than Diablo II but thats all it is. Whine as much as you want about the UI. Its much better than in Diablo 2 and is easier to use more skills with it. I dont want to spam F-keys anymore. I'd rather use the normal number keys to instantly use the abilities.

So far I have seen no substantial similarities to WoW. Therefore asking "what if there are more" has little basis.
Diablo 3 looks slightly more cartoony than Diablo II but thats all it is.
Thats mostly because of the conversion to full 3d than anything. There is more Character detail so technically it is less cartoony than D2.
shoulder pads that are so big tha protect your nipples are definetly not cartoony
I sense the sarcasm. Cartoon graphics are not defined by shoulder pad to nipple contact. Cel-shading is the epitome of cartoon graphics in games. Diablo 3 is on the realistic side of the spectrum. The characters are realistically proportioned, no bold black outlines, physical details such as veins, wrinkles, etc.
