An idea - how about this: Instead of healing orbs, some of the enemies carriy small remnant shards of the once great and powerful worldstone. Upon their death the so called healing shard gets dropped on the ground and visual effects make it easilly noticable (it may even rotate :P). The players then have the option of destroying it thus activating the same function the healing orbs have - the shards release a healing energy ( or thanks to some backstory deal with angels the characters get bonus life for each destroyed remnant shard). If there is a visual effect it should look somewhat like that of the breaking of mephisto's soulstone - very cool. I think this solves the problem with the dumb look of the healing orbs at least for me.
a problem with this idea i see. (i cant remember the excact ending but of my understanding) there were no monsters inside the chamber were the worldstone was. and the only one was tyreal and the dead baal. (or did he disitegrate....?) so i dont understand how the monsters would have the shards of the stone. but a great idea non the less. maybe have pools of blood from monsters that can be mixed with healing herbs or other monsters blood. making a healing potion. i dont know. off the top of my head.
Stop spewing forth complete and utter nonsense based on your assumptions.
"The first act is for noobs". The demo is shown to give us a feel about the game, not a feel of how "nooby" the first act is.
"There was no tactic needed because the barb was pwning from the start", wrong, it should have been "not once did they show the socalled tactic in getting health orbs" which is exactly in contrast with Blizzards claims. (They showed making use of enviromental destruction. Was it needed? Nope, wich makes your complete argument utterly invalid) Maybe the demo failed, i'm not making any assumptions, i'm just analyzing whats potentionally wrong about what we are given.
"The barb had the lvl 30 skill WW", seriously, are you dumb or just confused? The skill level system itself isn't even the same as in D2,... do i need to explain more?
"Its like you deliberately are ignoring the facts that make your arguments fail". Firstly your arguments are utter crap beyond a shadow of a doubt, infact i wouldn't even label them as being arguments, thats how nonsensical and ungrounded they are, even in a theoretical sense they are nothing but based on stupid biased assumptions and being illiterate concerning basic words and concepts like "abstraction". Secondly, i haven't made any arguments, i infact analyzed and double checked the 20 minute demo to find everything that strokes with what i feel the orb system might turn out to be and anything that might contradict it. Those are facts, which MIGHT give us an insight of how the game COULD be, you do nothing more then ignoring them or denying they are there or even leaving open the possibility that my conclusions might turn out to be the truth. You're basically just ignorant.
About it being/feeling/looking arcade, its a fucking collect the orbs to stay alive system, seriously, can it be any more arcade? Worse, based on the demo it even fails at that because it didn't even need any use of skill whatsoever.
And for the last time, i'm double quoting this to end it for the last time.
WRONGWRONGWRONGWRONGWRONG!!! For the love of god take it from me, YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!
The globe IS AN ABSTRACTION of how healthy you are. The globe itself being red (blood) and round (cellular? dunno) COULD be a symbolism of LIFE.
The health orb MIGHT symbolise the same thing (it being round and red) BUT IT DOES NOT abstract what is supposed to be HEALING, not even when you consider it to be Sanctuary.
Just fucking learn the damn meaning of the freaking words for jebuses sake.
Did the point of my post completley fly over your head? The reason there were no tactics needed was because the barb was fully capable of handling the situation without health orbs, obviously because he found a full set of armor and a fire maul at the beginning... If he had a cracked leather sash, a pair of boots, and a club then maybe he would have needed to use the health orbs. The point is that you wont have all those skills at the very beginning. Now take for instance the skeleton mob at the end of the trailer, you kill a few and a health orb drops, you still have full health so you dont pick it up. The skeletons close in and start to kill you, you have to get back to the orb... Now imagine that the mob is made up of several different beasts with abilities that are close, medium, and long range, that deal all kinds of damage including stun, knockback, and slow down. You have to find the correct path on the fly or you die. If you get trapped you cant just spam potions so you are fucked.
All I'm going to say is that it will be better than the system in D2. You kinda have to trust that they will work out the kinks in the beta, now your arguments are getting sporatic and incohesive so I will just proclaim myself teh winnah and go about my merry way.
You should honestly listen to what Jay says instead of calling him names and being generaly unconstructive.
"Imagine this, imagine that, yea but maybe this, yea but maybe that, assumption assumptions assumptions, nonsense etc...".
Fact of the matter is the barb DID use health orbs, you barely even saw them dropping, thusly completely and utterly eradicating and demolishing everything you said.
"You should honestly listen to what Jay says instead of calling him names and being generaly unconstructive".
wut?
"Better then D2", not really, more like "different".
You really don't have anything useful to say, do you?
bye now
Who does:rolleyes: We should be coming up with new ideas instead of arguing over the existing mechanics
My problem with it is I liked in diablo 2 how fast you died, getting 1 shot was what gave the game some tension; the "tactics" came from either killing the conviction gloom before they killed you or vice versa using what you had. Now its gonna be mmorpg speeds which is probably what blizzard is trying to achieve, managing your blobs of life while enemies whittle you down sounds rather lame imo and is not diablo, its more like WoW.
I remember twirling through chaos sanctuary with a barb then getting caught in a group and spamming rejuvs as I tried to escape, to say that didnt take skill or wasnt fun is a bit much. Now it seems you wont be able to go through mobs, you'll have to focus on killing 1 at a time just so you can heal. I dont see how it could possibly speed the game up. Anyways I just feel diablo is drifting from the starcraft type strategy to the risk type strategy, in starcraft sure you can think 10 moves ahead but without good reflex or instinct you will suck.
Oh ya and restricting healing will most likely turn out very annoying as it did in mythos, its right up there with actually restricting spell usage by mana, its makes any death you have to it frusterating and leaves a feeling of a cheap death rather than something that deserves a "gg", if that makes any sense.
