Well when you die.. you go to heaven or hell.. we WENT to hell to kill him.. and I'm sure he didnt go to heaven:P. So his soul will always be around... keeping the balance between good and evil.
Plus Technically... he was never alive..
I think that the new Diablo will actually be someone (Malic? Necromancer from D2 who went crazy?) who journeys to the abyss.. collects diablo's soul, and sort of SUCCESFULLY consumes it's powers.
i think hes dead, i mean we went back to hell to kill him in his own chamber... than again blizzards gonna make some weird story that figures how he comes back.
Necromancer from d2 got corrupted, studied deeper into the magics of necromancy, performed a ceremony to bring Diablo back. Done.

If the worldstone still stood, I would agree. Unfortunately, with the worldstone destroyed Diablo no longer needs a human host. Mortals, also, cannot take a demons power. A demon has to empart upon them a part of their own power willingly.
As well, with the worldstone gone now, Diablo no longer NEEDS a human, as he can freely enter Sanctuary whenever he pleases.
They should have Tyrael as the final boss fight. That wuddd beee baddasssssss

In a random ass part, a secret twist that DECKARD CAINE IS THE GREATER EVIL.
I like the idea of having Deckard Caine as the new Great Evil
but the only people who I can think of that have the ability to create such a plot twist would be the guys who make the Anime Code Geass.

agreed. in a world where everything is being engulfed in darkness, who's to say how far Tyrael would or wouldn't go to put a stop to it. or maybe he's corrupted. like a darth vader thing.. he wants to do good, but everything is so far gone he loses it and becomes as bad as anything else.
"the path to hell is paved with good intentions" or whatever that whole mess is ..ha
plus imagine the chaos of having to cut your way through 2 armies coming at one another.
brutal.

Yeah well where did you expect him to go, Detroit?
Anyway yeah he probably went back to the Abyss.
