IMO, I think it's a mistake to name the classes anything special and more of a mistake to make us keep calling them that. I think we should just choose a character from and image as we did in the LOD and then we name it both in terms of class and formal/given name.
You mean a list of class names right? Because if people could actually NAME their class, I'm sure we'd see some retarded stuff.
Because we are talking about a game with 5 classes based at a deep lore, not a generic RPG with 20+ classes.
Diablo 3 must have very unic classes. Think our 'Heavy Caster' should be a Hyerophant. It's a good name for a caster, we allready have this name inside diablo's lore and it's hardly used in other games.
And yes, teleportation should have a cooldown. At least 3 seconds.
Enigma was created because sorc's teleport was just imba. So they give it to all classes.
And (only with rare exceptions) i'm really against cross classing skills.
Not to mention avatar is a horrible name for a character class. It would also create a lot of confusion since the word itself has many meanings.
Person1: "Do you have an avatar?"
Person2: "Um.. yeah.. what forum?"
If it were called the avatar then I can already see people using "ava" as an alias. Which gets on my nerves as much as "baba" does for barbarian. Seriously, why would anyone use "baba," its the same amount of letters as "barb" and looks like you're too stupid to realize you spelled it wrong.
It's worse for us Polish people since baba means old lady.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
Elementalist is a perfect gender-neutral name for the sorcerer/sorceress, however, the existing sorceress was already an elementalist in nature, and they have said they aren't bringing any other classes back, and they said that the barbarian was originally named something else but they felt it was pointless to create a class identical to the D2 barb with a different name. If they are consistent in their thinking, they would also find it pointless to create a class with the same concept as the sorcerer with the name elementalist. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that we see an Elementalist in D3. However they will surely need to fill the role of a pure magic user, it just won't focus so much on elemental magics as previous diablos have. They will probably focus on some other form of magic.
Consider the other popular fantasy spell-schools: abjuration, conjuration, divination, illusion, enchantment, evocation, necromancy, transmutation. Certainly necromany is out. Enchantment can't be the focus because that would rely on enchanting weapons which would only work for a fighter-mage, not a pure spellcaster. Most of the others are weird offshoots. I think we can expect someone who focuses mainly on Illusion, Mind Control, and/or Magic Damage. A lot of people were already pissed off at how the sorcerer was weakened by having to specialize in a certain element, whereas many monsters might be highly resistant or immune to that element. I doubt they will make this mistake again, which is why I think a magic user who specializes in Magic Damage is more likely. It offers a completely new design for the spellcaster.
Lets just calm down here guys and gals and some people that are inbetween. They will have some sort of spellcasting class. Do you want to know how I know this? Well even blizzard themselves cant ressit a pew pew BOOOOOM type of class. (I bet blizzard is secertly playing Diablo3 uncompleted and there so addicted to it they slack off and dont make the game and end up releasing half an act then we all get to go "Blizzard you damn nerds we are comming to slaughter you now") P.S IM CRAZY!

As another poster said, I don't think the magic-user will be an elementalist. If it were, then just bring the sorceress back and give it a different name.

Agreed.
He/She will problably use some elemental spells, but will have a whole new arsenal of different tricks.
i dont think they will bring back another pure magic class (the sorc), i think they might infuse it with a druid or paladin or something, so each class is a bit more balanced in it melee/magic/passive skills.
Teleport may be the magic class's leap that the barb had. It would probably have some sort of cooldown to make it less like D2, which seems to e what they hint towards with not wanting a certain class to be far superior at a certain aspect like travel.
As for class names... Elementalist, Mage, Wizard? (Is wizard male specific?) or likely they will create a name. I'm thinking along the lins of DAoC where they was a class such as a Runemaster. That is somewhat original and gender neutral.
