Hey guys I'm wondering if I bought Diablo 3 and wanted to install it on 2 computers would I need 2 separate games? or would the CD key work for both computers because i have 2 computers and I don't really want to buy 2 games.
Will work on both comps, as long as you don't try to log in on Battle.net simultaneously. Single player is no problem. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
This is speculation, albeit this the most probable scenario. It is reasonable to assume that this would be the case, however companies have tried to limit this in the past.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
We don't know anything about what kind of copy protection they will use, and they probably won't announce it until much closer to the game's release. Anything anyone says is simply a guess. It's possible that they will require an online activation / confirmation every couple of days, even for single player.
Piracy is a huge concern for the producers of PC games, and you can be sure that they will do everything they can to try to prevent it.
take this as an example - copied from the Mass Effect for PC forums:
Mass Effect uses SecuROM and requires an online activation for the first time that you play it. Each copy of Mass Effect comes with a CD Key which is used for this activation and for registration here at the BioWare Community. Mass Effect does not require the DVD to be in the drive in order to play, it is only for installation.
After the first activation, SecuROM requires that it re-check with the server within ten days (in case the CD Key has become public/warez'd and gets banned). Just so that the 10 day thing doesn't become abrupt, SecuROM tries its first re-check with 5 days remaining in the 10 day window. If it can't contact the server before the 10 days are up, nothing bad happens and the game still runs. After 10 days a re-check is required before the game can run.
Please feel free to ask any follow up questions in this thread and I will try and answer them when I can.
If they don't want to installing it on more than one computer, there are ways for them to prevent this from happening (assuming you only use legal copies of the game).
so me and my friends have to get separate keys :-(
The mass effect strategy did allow for up to three different installs, if blizzard goes this route then it is possible that you will still be able to share keys. That probably isn't very ethical (or legal) but that's your choice to make.
battle.net will definitely not allow you to play on more than one computer with the same key though.
Yes for multiplayer.
For single, you could play both at the same time.
You could even play multi on one computer and single on the other at the same time.
