There has been a lot of discussion on these boards about the art direction Blizzard has taken with Diablo 3, while the music and the sound of the game has hardly been discussed at all. I find this kind of strange because I've always felt that the music of diablo is what had the biggest effect on the mood and tone of the games.
So what are your opinions about the music? Is it dark and gothic enough? Does it fit in with what we listened to while playing the earlier games?
Here are links to some of the music blizzard has released so far:
They set a well constructed ambiance. It invokes images quite easily in the heavily ambient meshwork of sounds and melodies. There is much movement in the songs, which is perfect for the areas, particularly Tristram.
In a sense, it had me thinking of an interesting tapestry woven of the softer God of War tracks and Myst IV.
So, simply, I like it, and look forward to the other tracks, as the ones shown hold promise.
Absolutely loving what they've given us so far. Some people think it's 'too epic', but eh...obviously it's going to be toned up a few notches in the first look at gameplay, and even at that I had no issues with it.
Hoping for an official soundtrack to be released -- maybe something to include in the collector's edition?
Music IMO is perfect for the game they have laid out before us. Those who say it doesnt feel diabloish dont know wtf they are talking about :). The music portrays the mood of whatever area/situation you are in wonderfully...i would even go so far as to say better than D2's music. Time will tell as they show us more whether or not my opinion will change in that regaurd but i doubt it.

They need to maintain the eerie music factor, the first Diablo to me did this best. The new sound track in the game play sounds too epic adventure. For anyone interested here are some of my thoughts on the new game.
The Tristram music is really good, the others are an 'epic' feel like D2 LoD act 5. The thing I didn't like about act 5 is it even played that epic Harrogath music in the Throne Room where they should have had way creepier music, like the stuff from Catacombs or Tombs. Guess we'll see what happens... I agree that a massive orchestra is not necessarily better for all situations or areas.
None of the current released D3 soundtrack contains that retarded, stock "epic" music.
The one used in the trailer is just generific music which is made loud 'epic' so it can also be heard good in a TV commercial or ad. It's not Diablo music, when you listen carefully, the D3 trailer even has some music pieces from World of Warcraft and SC original trailer. It is not going to be in the game, why would they put WoW and Starcraft music in it?
Go to Diablo3.com and click on a location like 'New Tristram' or 'Cathedral'. That's the kind of music which is going to be in the game, and it sounds great so far. Fits the Diablo atmosphere very good.
I understood the complaints about too bright graphics somehow, but this one doesn't warrant a petition. The game developers are not stupid, that 'epic' stuff you hear in the trailer will 99.99% not be in the GAME, they've used those same musics for years.
Man they should put like some actually music in the game like some metallica, iron maddien, slipknot, avenged sevenfold. that and put like a in game music player that would be sick

Sorry I tried to find the music in the page info of the pages but all I see are the gifs and swfs mostly.

More instruments doesn't = better music.

Yeah I kinda agree. I'd prefer it if it was closer to the dungeon theme from D1 or the hell theme from D2.
Here is a link to hear the music from D1 and D2: http://www.battle.net/files.shtml# (just click on the battle.net music player)
The scratching on the guitar string sound always makes my gut churn.

But ontopic:
It fits.. I'd like to hear some heavy electric Violin in some parts.
You're so wrong I almost died of laughter.
Also, screw this "new tristram" theme.
