Well if you guys think about it. The diablo series is based on the 'ACTS' system. So basically, removing that would mean going through it once, hoping that by the end you'll reach the top level. This would mean you would be spending an aweful alot of time in ONE act alone getting the maximum level.
The reason the Difficulties were implemented was to allow players to "keep moving" through different environments, even though they were similar.
The idea of having a color change or feature change within the difficulties seems really unique and is something to maybe have. Adds new lore to the environment, but still keeps the familiar landscape your growing character runs around with.
I definently do get the point. I do not believe that having norm,nm,hell shortend the game at all. I believe the acts were written way before the difficulty lvls. I also added 6 acts so that means its longer then the first D2 and then said add 3 more acts in the Expansion pack which makes it even more longer. I really dont understand how you concluded to "you just dont get it"
yeah u don't get it.. if there is 6 acts in d3 with 3 difficulties.. how is it longer than 15 acts with 1 difficulty.. sigh.
i like the difficulties, they were like playing the game again just harder, then again they could still have them, just progress throgh the game instead of the samrthing?
Like I said earlier instead of making 10 acts what they should do is actually add side quests and dungeons only avaible in Nightmare and then add even more in Hell.
Let's say that Blizz thinks that Kabraxis doesn't have any place in the main storyline of D3. Since there's many people who would like to see him what they could do is create a new quest avaible only in Nightmare/Hell where you go to Bramwell find Darrick or something and end up fighting Kabraxis.
Adding extra storyline to the higher levels of difficulty wouldn't only make the game more fun but would also encourage more people to actually try Nightmare and Hell for other reasons than just getting a ubergear or doing runs.
A quest ain't good if it ain't hard

Word! A quest is only good as how difficult and impressive it is.

Having Longer acts would mean a shit load of difficulty completion time.
