Imo they should take off the dificult levels from the game (normal, nightmare, hell) and instead of 4-5 acts give us 9-10 with approximately a 8-9 lvl goal per act, this would make the game much less repetitive.
This is a terrible idea. The difficulties separate casual players from intense players. I cannot count the number of people who say they have "beaten Diablo II' but never have ventured beyond Normal difficulty. They kill Baal and call it good. I love heading into Nightmare/Hell because the Act 1 creatures actually put up a good fight, and I get to use my advanced skills on those early level monsters!
Let the casual players be casuals. If they want to beat the game on Normal and call it good, let them. I want to continue beating the game in three different settings. I think it was a brilliant idea, and it should be kept.
For starters these are suggestions or hopes not necessarily based strictly on what's been said.
Is the time from for d2 a single run through one difficulty or all three? If all three, then the time frame would be the same.
The story would move much more slowly in a 9-10 act game... though it would allow plenty of divergence into smaller character backgrounds. This could be very interesting.
for one difficulty level. from act 1-5.
thats what the devs for d3 want to base gameplay time on. for me it was upward around 2-4 hours on bnet with everyone at same lvl, or around 30 hours single player.

I am definitely in favor of extending the core game. I don't think anything should be affected on the difficulties' behalf; however, there are many benefits in having the multiple difficulties. It drastically extends the amount of loot that can be obtained and makes all the monsters challenging. And again, anyone can stop whenever they want to! There is no reason to remove the difficulties in favor of those who just don't want to play them.

Casual? Heh maybe they just got bored to the game since they were looking for some story and how hard game diablo really is.. cmon? Casual and intense players are separated in ladder there can be casuals that have beaten hell baal but they never get 90+level.
Normal and Nightmare difficulties are just useless, especially the Nightmare. Why do you want these when the real play and 90% of the time you play will be in hell anyways. Imo they should get rid of Nightmare at least. Make the story a bit longer 1-50 in normal 50-100 in hell. If they want even longer then 1 difficulty. Get some major boss to around 50 level when after that it will get a bit harder.
Imo now after 1.10 the difficulty gap between nightmare act5 and hell act1 is too big. If you aren't lucky and get some nice items in nightmare, you are in big trouble at hell.

Useless, eh? Try getting to Hell without Nightmare. They're stepping stones! Of course Hell is where most of the action is. It's the last difficulty! If you combine them all into one difficulty, everyone will just dwell in the last act. The game is much more fun knowing that Act 1 offers a serious challenge.

If I could level to 50-60 in normal there would be no difference when going to hell. When I'm 30 I get all my last skills and most of the gear to be able to do hell. So nightmare is just another quest fest.. if one could level to 50 in normal and then jump to the last difficulty (hell) it would be the same, you would just save some time for not doing the same quests again.
You prolly didn't read my post properly. If there was only 2 difficulties in D3. The areas big enough for you to get 1-50 in normal and then continue to hell 50-100. Act1 is easy in hell act2 starts to get difficult with those scarabs that deal enormous damage, act3 is easy again.
blizzard has said they are keeping NM and Hell modes in D3....DEAL WITH IT! :)...makes me very happy to know they are! Half the fun is going to harder modes and getting better stuff..it doesn't get boring or anything which is shocking.....but i love it!
DONT CHANGE IT BLIZZARD! LONG LIVE D2...and soon to be D3!
Wait did you say another difficulty would just be another quest fest? Isnt your proposal to take them out and make a longer STORY LINE? Either you are being far too vague or you have yourself a serious double standard my friend. As for the arguement about everyone dwelling in the last act in hell...this is true only for those wishing to lvl faster MOST of the time. No, hell has alot to offer in every act.
Also by your arguement to an earlier post. "Then why do people get rushed to hell?" thats common sense as they are most likely older players who know what they are doing and only interested in quickly leveling a character to build him into whatever tickles their fancy. Once again either being vague or a double-standard because by that logic i could say the same thing if they lengthened the storyline people would want to get RUSHED to the last act and stay there lol.
Nobody that is a beginner is going to come into the game RUSH ME PLZ. THey would be ignorant as to how the game even plays. I know my friend rushed me when i started playing he talked me into it, ended up quitting 2 days later because i didnt know wtf i was doing. Now if i play d2 and make a character build i usually wish to get rushed as i have perfect understanding of the game and just wish to build my character for pvp or w/e his intentions are for. This would not change with your proposal of longer story line and less difficulties.
There is nothing better than getting through normal then going to NM at lvl 40 w/e and feeling weak as a kitten again. Also the fact you are exposed to a whole other set of juicy drops to prepare you for hell. THen when hell comes its the same thing only you get the BEST stuff which is no easy task if you do it all your self :).
Bottom line is i dont agree with this proposal and the system is fine as is.

@ Akse: No not everyone dwells in ANY act really....and you are so full of crap its not even funny...you cannot beat hell with any decent gear and a lvl 60..you have to have a high lvl with VERY good gear from nm and hell. HELL is not easy feat...and it shouldnt be as it is HELL!!!!
sethdiablo NAILED it...i agree completely with it all...and again no need to worry as blizzard has already stated it IS going to have NM and Hell...and it IS going to be about the same length as diablo 2....PERFECT! lol

When I make a new character I run trought quests in normal 1-30 level then go to nightmare and run trough quests 30-50/60 level and go to hell and run trough quests 50/60-75 level. So basically I just repeat the run trough quests 3 times before getting into the end game. With 2 difficulty levels and longer story it would be more enjoyable. Questing 1-50 in normal with optional 50-60 in the last area. Then going hell and doing the same long story 50/60- perhaps as long as 80-90 before being in the end game.
Also by your arguement to an earlier post. "Then why do people get rushed to hell?" thats common sense as they are most likely older players who know what they are doing and only interested in quickly leveling a character to build him into whatever tickles their fancy. Older equals lazy? I see all kinds of kids and newcomers whining for rush.. whenever someone tells them what it is and perhaps they get one character rushed they will be whining for the next one for sure. Not all of them tho but majority.
No I think they don't want to repeat the quests 3 times before being higher level. With the other system the story would be better (prolly nice quest rewards too in D3) and you didn't have to repeat it so often.
I would much rather do long story/questing 2 times than the pretty poor short story of D2 3 times.
There is nothing better than getting through normal then going to NM at lvl 40 w/e and feeling weak as a kitten again. Also the fact you are exposed to a whole other set of juicy drops to prepare you for hell
Well imo nightmare has always been easier than normal. Most of the main skills you get at level 30 and when going to nightmare you can just breeze trough the areas with your powerfull skills. Yeah there are a lot of juicy drops but wether you get them or not before going to hell is a different story, I hardly ever get anything nice while doing the quests. Drops in D3 don't have to be difficulty based.
Not sure if anyone said about beating baal at level 60 but i'm sure its doable with some classes. Take a hammerdin who gets max resists for hell (not that hard at 60) can very likely beat hell baal at 60. For other classes it can be harder since immunes and such. Maybe summon necro could also do it easy. Now with this I don't mean farming baal in 8 player games but doing the quest in single is very much doable.
I've always gotten to hell at 50-60 level with my characters and end up to 70-75 at act4. This is after 1.10 Before that there has been times I've been to hell at 45-50 and game over has been already at 60-70. (some edit to clarify the bad sentence)
Oh and the facts btw: Q: What differences are there between the difficulty levels?
A: We have not decided on difficulties yet. We plan on being similar to D2. How exactly we tier it isn't yet decided.
So yes there will be difficulty levels but is it 2 or 3?
Ugh its late here and i just got autologged after that big long post i had...anyway i'll shorten it and sum it up.
Older players does NOT equal lazy we just dont want to go through the same storyline to make a new character when we are at that point focused in PVP and MFing. You have no concrete ground on how much any of those guys asking for a rush knows about d2. "Noob" is a term based on relativity and what you were doing is just speculating by the way they talked that they dont know anything about the game. I can say that a guy asking for a full rejuv doesnt know how to use a cube to take 3 smaller ones and make himself one...speculation with no concrete evidence to back it.
The Q/A you copied doesnt mean there are going to be less than 3 difficulties anymore than there will be 6 hehe. Nightmare is only easier if you have a build that shines around that lvl and know what ur doing...in d3 will not have any cookie cutter builds and uber gear to trade down at first and hopefully no duping..what have you~ NM if it is like in d2 will NOT be easy for new guys. Basically it all boils down to preference...we know that the game is going to be around the same length as d2. We know that the difficulties will be very similar to d2 so i guess it doesnt matter. You failed to address those double standards that i pointed out in your previous posts. All arguements you ahd about the difficulty system can be used against your proposal in the exact same fashion. That being said our preferances are different and its not gonna change the others opinion. So i wont be posting on this anymore as i have pretty much summed it up in my pervious post.
Didnt mean to come accross as an ass i just hurried through this post summing up what i had typed (neatly i might add) and lost. So sorry for the messy nature of this post  bed time

Well i'm older player, started at release and I always go trough the quests even if i'm making a pvp char. Rushing is seriously ruined some parts of this game but oh I guess it will be better in D3. Something like pre-lod you were able to be rushed but you couldn't leech exp from higher levels so it made the rushing pointless. Also back then you didn't need to make a MF char you were able to MF with your main char just fine.
But as you said the facts we know kinda make this thread useless since they will have difficulty levels etc.
"How exactly we tier it isn't yet decided."
More than 3? it can be anything one could prolly guess 2-10 then. Would be extremely stupid with more than 3.
Getting rid of the difficulty levels for a longer and more deep story...
Hmmm, that's tempting but covering all three difficulty levels (if there's still three) with story would make it way too long. Think about it, the game would be so long that even the devs would get bored before finishing it and make us a crappy and repetitive story just to make the game last a bit longer.
If anything the game should be longer than D2 LoD but not that long, just make it more difficult in general to prevent players for progressing too fast with rushes and it will okay.
With this statement, you have effectively made EVERYTHING you say, to be utterly worthless...it's utter BS
How? It's hard to make the quests without getting exp from the monsters you kill on the way. Tell me if there is a way. Well i guess I could do it if I ask waypoints from someone. Then at 60-70 would be game over.
My major beef with the norm, nm, hell thing is that you didn't even get to use all the skills and as such see all the game by playing through the full game. One play through the story should equal THE GAME, anything more like NM and Hell is icing; and there for those who want to keep playing (usually because of multi bnet).
If there are still the three tiers of 'difficulty' (aka exponential monster health and damage) you should get and be using the equivalent of the level 30 skills for 5 or more levels by the time you get to the end of the game / story. When you face THE end boss even in normal it should be challenging and meaningful.
I myself kept playing after beating the game and essentially seeing it all (yay here come the same weapons with different names / stats) only because I enjoyed the gameplay in party rather than because it was 'challenging'. Seriously there is nothing challenging about having to read a forum for the leet build necessary to pwn the game simply by buying the right few pieces of gear and spamming one skill.
