Since there is so many threads bout the art of D3
I was wondering is anyone else worried about the fact D3 teams thinks 5 players on screen seems hectic?
I was hoping for an increase in party cap... Seems to me we are losing not onlt classes but the cap of 8 man partys could get lowered to 5?
I was hoping of games cap rise by least 1-2 not lowered by 3?
I know this isnt confirmed but just a concern by sounds of things they are thinking of 5 per party =(

Waiting half a life time and its finally time...
Diablo walks the earth.
I know you said "ignoring the art" but the limit may have something to do with it actually. Give everyone supersize weapons that glow like the sun and constantly cast "fantasy" themed spells and I can imagine the screen would soon become a total visual mess with too many on screen.

No different than orb/meteor spam, poison nova, lighting Fury, fantasm aura Baal/cow runs.. I can't imagine it being any more messy than that heh. Seriously the weapons are not super sized, no more than they were in D2, the weapons look propotionate to the characters in the D3 gameplay trailer from what I saw. The weapons are also not going to glow unless "enchanted", and as far as the spells are concered... did you even play D2? because so far the spells in D3 are not any more redicluious than anything I've seen cast in Diablo2.

The weapons are a lot brighter bigger and bolder visually than anything I remember from d2, and lets face it just about everyone of a reasonable level is going to have enchanted weps.
But maybe they already considered D2 too hectic and messy anyway? your right it did get pretty over the top sometimes.

Well yes the weapons are a bolder, bigger, and visually represented in the game much better than they were in Diablo2 due to more detail and the high resolutions/3D , but they are still proportionate to the characters in D3, that's all I was trying to say. The weapons looked cool in Diablo2 in your inventory until you actually saw your characters running around with them.
they have already hinted at making the game easier (dumbed down), so allowing 8 players would make it insanely easy. therefore now you can only have 5 players, if that. this game will be diablo-lite when they get done with it.

where did they say the game was going to be easier or dumbed down?

They didn't, that guy is just a false informer. This game will be brutal, there will be no pot breaks or item jamming sessions to slow down combat. The orbs add an element to the game that make certain skills effective. The problem in D2 was that some skills were so irrelevant that you never even put a point into them. Scaring enemies in diablo 3 will be effective for opening up a crowd so you can go in and grab up health orbs. Same goes with confuse and knockback skills. Its not stated anywhere but health orbs heal your entire team (I gathered from watching the final boss battle several times). So it much becomes a group effort.

I was under the impression that the number/toughness of the enemies scaled with the number of Player Characters in the fight.
Of course, this could be the very reason why they want to limit it to 5 players at a time. Besides the flashy spells and glowing weapons, you'd also have ...let's say... 12 or so skeletons per player. At 8 players, that means you'd have 96 skellies on screen at the same time all those neon colored swords are swinging and flashy spells are going off. That would be some major slowdown for underpowered systems.
Sure, you could say "those people just need to buy a new computer", but we all know blizzards policy about making a game that can be played on a wide number of machines across the spectrum.
I want it to be expanded to 12 or 16, and expanded to something huge like 40 for the Ubers

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
I hope they don't lower it. I loved having full parties it was just crazy, mosters everywhere, barbs whirling through while sorces cast blizz. over them. I really hope they keep it at 8. I think 10 is to much and 6 is to little, so 8 seems right to me

Hopefully, it's not some trivial radius, hope it covers at least the experience gain range that we had in D2 (somewhere around 1-1.5 screens wide, wasn't it?).

So far we know there will be 5 classes, but we don't know what size of groups people will be able to form.
If your insane, but still sane enough to know it, are you insane or sane?

But still i dont get why they cant still have 8 players and keep the more players the harder the mobs rule....
Will be very weird for them to nerf instead of boost the game cap... i had my heart set on 10....
