I have a computer since 1983. I played all sorts of games but almost never for more than few hours. The only games I truly enjoyed playing were Diablo 1, and 2. I just don't care about any other game... which explains why i have a shitty 30$ Graphics card. now Diablo III is announced, I want to prepare my computer to It's release. Which Graphics card would you recommend as good enough to be able to display Diablo III with the highest parameters but not more than that because the next game I'll play will surely be Diablo IV or non at all.
What games can your computer handle right now? You might need more than just a graphics card update.
The graphic for D3 prob won't be demanding though...I bet if you an run WoW on medium-high settings without a problem then you can run D3 on at least very low settings.
hm.. if you've had your computer since 83' then you might not have a pci-express slot to fit a 8800 or for that matter any card on todays market. you should go computer shopping imho.
Actually, check tomshardware, the new ATI cards are actually better than Nvidia in the price per performance ratio. Wait a few weeks for them to get released.
That's what I'm probably gonna get in a few months personally. But if it's only for Diablo 3 then you should wait to know when it's released. You also need a PCI-Express slot, so if your computer is too old you won't be able to.

Thanks you for the Info guys!
I have a 3.0 Ghz core2duo (E8400) on a GA-P35-DS3 (Gigabyte) Motherboard with 4GB DDR2.
and a GeForce 8400GS...
I'm more than certain that the only thing holding me back is the graphics.

Wait...when in 1983 did this hardware come to market?
I think your machine will do just fine and your video card will be just fine. Blizzards games are usually pretty scalable.
7200 + will be able to run D3 on low settings mabey medium. Thats probably as low of a card you could go without really pushing the limits on the older cards
Want a card sure to keep you going for at least 5 years ahead? Get the upcoming 295 GTX..want one that can play all the games now, and will last you quite a bit in the future? An 8800 GTX is enough.

From what I see, your computer is very capable of running D3.
the 8400GS is a good card. With 4 GB of RAM, assuming your running vista is plenty.
If your running XP, then your only using 3 GB of RAM. (XP only recognizes 3 GB)
Vista recongnizes up to 8 GB of RAM.
You have an excellent Processor! the E8400 can be easily be overclocked to over 4 GHz.
But you will need the right BIOS to overclock without melting your processor.
If you running your processor stock at 3 GHz then you should be just fine.
If you overclock, BE SURE to get a better CPU fan and coooling system in your PC.
Remember, more GHz (overclocking) the more voltage it will want, which means A LOT more heat.
I have done a lot of tuning with the E8400 duo, The best overclock is at 3.6 Ghz.
At 3.6 GHz your voltage remains the same as if it were at 3.0 GHz.
SO! you wont need to worry about melting your CPU.
If your wondering what BIOS I use, its Pheonix BIOS. (SLI capable)
If anyone has questions PM me, and id be more than happy to assist.

Battle not with monsters lest ye become a monster and if you gaze into the abyss the abyss gazes into you.
Honestly, wait til they announce a release date for d3 (which could be a while) THEN go shopping. You will have saved a couple hundred bucks as technology gets cheap very fast once it's old. You will also know what to expect will run d3.
Heres the deal.
Any graphics card that has 128 mb should run D3. Based on the engine D3 is using.
Any less and it wont run for sure.
I suggest a 512 or higher (8000 series or higher Geforce)
Or run two or three cards in SLI (like me) and you wont have to worry about graphics ever agian.
I run three 8800 GT overclocked 640 mb cards in SLI.
DirectX 10.
However! Diablo 3 most likely will not require DirectX 10.
DirectX 9 should be sufficient.
Questions? PM me.
