I was just viewing the D3 trailer again and I came upon the final boss fight where the big things literally bites off the barbs head, the first time I saw this my immediate reaction was one of awe and joy. How sick is is that you get Gears of War type death scenes and shit and then I wondered how this would actually work in the game? Like does your health have to be at a certain level for a boss to kill you in such a unique manner, since in the D2 days you would just take a lot of dmg fall down and die.
But with this new death scene aspect how are you going to be able to avoid this if now health globe thingys are on the ground? I mean yes they said potions were in the game but how are they going to be as readily available without a quick keystroke I don't want to have to go into my inventory and search through my bags hoping I don't take a death blow in the process. I dunno this seems like a small flaw that is gonna come back to bite us in the ass you know? Final boss fight with the big D and the main DPSer (whoever that might be) takes a one hit kill by getting grabbed and ripped in half, how are you supposed to avoid that?

Soon comes the day when all shall be free,
Even you, even me.
Soon comes the day all shall die,
Surely you but never I. We rode on the winds of the rising storm,
We ran to the sounds of thunder,
We dance among the lightening bolts
And tore the world asunder
I was wondering the same thing. Was the Barbs health really low or can that boss just take your entire life in one swipe?? Me and my friends have been debating this since that video. We need answers!!! LOL
What probably happens is that the code will do a check (before any animation is done) to see whether or not the incoming attack will reduce your HP to zero. If not, then a normal swing animation will be executed. But if so, then you get some crazy death animation.
Hopefully we will see this on many many monsters, and not just the big ones. But having it at all is still very cool. Makes dying less shitty.

That would be correct, most likely.
And the potions will most likely have a hot key on the keyboard, if I had to guess.
They aren't getting rid of potions, they are reducing the dependency on them, or probably giving them limitations... Something like that. If this is the case, then you are going to need to watch your health. Notice in the gameplay video that the barbarian kept leaping, then using that ranged spell, then leaping. He's avoiding damage for a reason, and the reason being he can't heal mid fight.
Yea the Barb can leap away from damage but are the other classes gonna have a similar get out of death free card? The only way I ever knew how to dodge in D2 was to click away from and uncoming attack and that takes time to register and move so your dude gets blasted anyway, no problem take a potion. But in this I dont think clicking the mouse away from the monster is nessecarily gogin to keep you from getting ripped in half.

Would be nice to see more of this kind of stuff in the game. Thats for sure.
