I personally feel diablo is left out when it comes to tournaments. And when it comes to diablo II i feel that there is a good reason to not have tournaments(running away, town guarding, etc.) But for diablo III there should be no reason not to have an advanced PvP system that can be used for competitive gameplay. Really all they would need to do is have an arena. Where players would enter a portal and spawn at different areas of the "arena". The arena's would be closed off (No running away or going back to town). And i would like to see different layouts for the arena's. For instance: one map can be completely clear. Another map would have walls and corridores (sp?). And other might be four small islands connected by bridge to a small middle island.
So hopefully they add this because i would love to compete at blizzard events and online tournaments (gamebattles.com). So what do you guys think?
EDIT::
For those hardcore players. (Im not one myself so im not sure if this would be a good add-on) But if you duel in the arenas and die you wont lose your character.
Maybe even add a reward system for the winner of the duel. Say you put in something valuable of yours and your opponent puts in something valuable of theirs. And you fight for the prize. Something along those lines.
Ya! Thats the thing i dislike about billzard events... There is all these WoW, W3 and SC tournaments for thousands of dollars.. But nothing for us Diablo players.. Also in a minute im going to update OP with another add on.
I think adding some kind of arena or specialized fighting area would be a good idea.
Just don't hand out any arena-specific in game awards like another Blizzard game does >_>
Some kind of player run reward system would be neat, yeah. Like something allowing bets to be placed with items or gold.
Your poll could use a couple more options BTW.. there's not really an option for people who would like to see PVP be improved over Diablo II's system but not add arenas.
edit: Post below has a neat idea too... I wouldn't be opposed to some kind of simple ranking/pvp level system like WC3 has
I'm very, very, pro-esports. I think that diablo II completely lacked any form of organized competitive play, which hurt the longevity of the game(somewhat).
I would like to see seasons and dedicated characters for PvP, that would take a large part of the RPG out, and making it more action/strategy based.
Here, I'll lay it out, for a league divided into season.
Changes to Mechanics :
Unlimited Skill Respecs
Faster Leveling Up
Ok, the season starts : -First week, you level up your character. There is a max number of hours you can play. You aren't allowed to play with other players(or, if you are doing team, players that aren't on your team)
Then, for the next 4 weeks, you battle other league players(each battle would be best out of 3 or best out 5). You would be paired up blindly, bases on your win/lose records. You play until you have a certain number of battles under you belt (maybe 10 per week).
After those 4 weeks the bottom 25-50% get dropped. The characters are deleted.
You repeat the first 5 weeks.
After then second round, you cut everyone besides the top 16.
Next 2 weeks - leveling up.
Then you have finals.
Thats just an example. Of what could be done. Ultimately, What should be done, is users should be allowed to organize, set rules, contact blizzard, and have the tools to do something as in depth as above.
Interesting idea. Not so sure I like the limited playtime idea. Seems to me that luck would play into it. Lets say hypotheticaly all the D2 rune words are there, and your team happens to get everything they need for enigma. This alone gives them a remarkably huge advantage in combat, an advantage that will win rounds. This negates player skill, and that should be what wins or loses the match. OF course, the opposing argument is that if people can farm forever then the person who played the longest has the best chance of winning, not the most skilled player/team (in some cases). I suppose it comes down to imbalances in items in general and some things being too damn rare in D2.
Other than that though, I very much like the layout.

There are no cheap tactics, only good ones.
Don't be afraid to take a chance, your skill will help the dice roll in your favor.
Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

It's an excellent point. The reason I wanted the time limit, was make it as much about skill, and as little about grinding/farming as possible. The best solution(to the problem you mentioned) is cut out the best items, and increase the number if mid-upper range items. And tweak it for every round.
An alternative would be set a cap for the level of the character. say, 45 for the first round, 60 for the second, and 80 for the last. You still would have to tweak the drops.
I also wouldn't mind if leagues/ladders had a small p2p fee, depending on the demands of it, and the prestige of the league.
Like, if blizzard had an official league, you would pay a small entrance fee. You know, maybe $10-$20. Something smaller and user organized wouldn't need it. Ultimately though, the goal would be that everyone that wanted to play, would get at least 5 weeks of fun out of it.
If you want it to be 100% about skill, you'd be best off given a level 100 character and able to choose any equiment from the game. That'd make it all about skill and choosing the right build.
I thought about that as well. It might work, but it seems wrong. It seems like you should have to build your character up on your own. That's one of the fundamentals of the gameplay. I think part of the skill would be maximizing with what you have.
it's just an example. Each season would probably have slightly tweaked rules, depending on what worked, and what didn't.

This system definately works. Guild Wars used it for it's PvP only characters. Another alternative could be completely changing the ways drops work, such that rare items are not really rare at all anymore on a third character type (so we now have SC, HC, and PvP) making it all about choosing the best gear, rather than using the best you've found. Ultimately though, I think static lvl x characters and a simple menu/npc to make custom gear for you is the best way to go.
Additionaly, Id also be fine paying a small entry fee by season.

I think Arena's would be cool. They suck in MMO's, but in a game like this I think Arenas would work absolutely wonderful. Especially if there were team matches.
Gear should matter provided that getting good gear is not only obtainable by a select few. This will allow for having fun in PvE while not PVPing. Obtaining gear as PvP rewards would be nice too.
I don't like that because it segregates the game, a good example of that is WoW, or as some came to call it the World of Arenacraft.
Than again, like I had said before, this is a completely different game than WoW so the possibility shouldnt be ruled out completely, and you should get SOMETHING for PvP besides a damn ear.
Ya, if diablo takes any thing from WoW it would be the pvp sene sence it is really popular now. WoW's arena game is in the mlg, people are geting payed for this... so other people are watching...
On a other hand WoW toke a great story line, from diablo if you dont have that there wouldnt be any pvers or what not.
I think they are taking out the pvp where you can get out of party, rape your Ex-team and get the mobs weak and take the drops.

What i mean is, Blizzard will probly take the massive pvp system from WoW and use it in D3.
Why? because d2... was made almost a decade ago, 10 years... probly when d3 comes out unless they suprise us
Back then the game systems couldnt handle massive scale pvp or just rooms, Aka 8 people per room. Also there are tons of HUGE steps blizzard had to take to get this game * next gen* witch i belive they have with the what they have done with the enviroment, witch could also lead to better pvp... ? Useing a wall to kill some one sick? yes
About the PvP, if you have ever played wow..... you will see about 10-15 people maybe more people come and go dueling out side a major city.. Why? 1) Its really fun to play your buds 2) to get your personal skill up 3) to practice to get better gear *Arena*
Also i think that how much the WoW players have came together when pvp came out, they didnt have it to start. They had more guilds, people started playing because they saw a movie of some guy on youtube kicking ass or somthing. Pvp is very popluar in wow, i only did it i hated to raid... and i no about 50% or more just pvp... there for 50% of there money would be gone if not for pvp.
Simply Wow's great pvp system got blizzard, half of that 9 million people playing and with out it the game wouldnt be what it would be. An they will adapt that 2 diablo 3 if they want people to play forever, and to make more money.
I played d2, for about 4 years and i Know that d2 was never about pvp there was a small bit of it in there but it was not about it. What i am stating is that they can now support pvp with WoWs scale, im not saying d3 will be all about pvp nor all about storyboard. I would like to see a more polished system of d2s pvp, i was just saying that they might bring over large scale pvp because of the people that are about it. Its big...
I also didnt mean have you ever played wow, in a mean tone i was just saying it as a refrence.
You ask if we have ever played wow, i think the better question would be, have you ever played diablo?
Diablo was never about pvp, so i dont see why diablo3 should. Yes it should include pvp, but no balancing, no rewards, no competition.
I am all for changes if that makes diablo3 a better game, except when it comes to pvp. Simply because that was never what diablo was all about.
I probably wouldn't play PvP, its not what I'm interested in.
However, it is a feature that has no effect on the rest of game, especially if you separate league+ladder characters from the rest of the characters.
So, your opinion has no validity to it, what so ever.
You wouldn't play PvP, it's not connected to your gameplay experience, but you still insist that it's changed/improved/present? That makes you a hater.
Diablo characters do massive amounts of damage to be able to handle so many creatures. This makes PvP somewhat imbalanced. Arenas make little sense in a game like this.
I don't understand why people keep requesting WoW features into this game... people even request P2P, wtf.
Well i do agree with the massive damage, but then again they have massive def to beable to ward off horde of monsters.. so a bit more balanced if you think about it * no offence*
Also some of Wow's features are simple ones like more bag space etc, but the bop and the game play shit people say should never happen.
And the P2P isnt a bad idea... i would keep Battle.net updated the game updated. Less dupes, hacks, and gay shit. The bad thing is that we gotta pay... :/
Just like wow pvp doesnt affects the rest of wow? It affects everything my friend, if you are going to add arena and with that competition and rewards, you are going to have to add pvp balance to ensure things stay fair. And iam not gonna explain why, but pvp and pve balance simply dont mix well.
Except the characters wouldn't even play together....
I understand what you are getting at, but it would be very easy to work around.

1)I think it did. It could be debated. I don't care to.
2)I stand corrected. But I feel as though the game it self didn't cater to this sort of gameplay.
