I am not trying to spam, but this concern needs to be seriously taken into consideration.
For it makes the initial purpose of this thread pointless.
The poll needs to be entirely redone.
Options need to look like so:
What do you think of the Art Design Direction in Diablo III ?
1) It is perfect as it stands now
2) It needs a complete visual overhaul to resemble the previous games in the franchise
3) I love the new artistic expression and design but needs to be a little more bleaker/scarier
Options 3 and 4 are pointless in the current poll, and i had to vote option 2 when in truth I really Love the new art direction However I want cellars/caves/dungeons a lot more darkerand would very much enjoy just a little tweak to the entire visuals of the game being a little more evil.
I'll admit I was engrossed in the gameplay video thinking "OMG LOOK AT THAT!". But I saw some "hypothetical before & after" screenshots in another thread. After seeing those, I was thinking "OMG EVEN BETTER! @.@".
So, I'm on the side of making the color potray a darker atmosphere. I hope to see nasty weather effects in there as well such as the horrible rain storm in the screenshots I mentioned above.
I agree. I loved the gameplay video - but when other people started to darken it and show before and after, it saddened me - the darker was more, more appealing and attractive. People think this is something small, but when half of the people voting don't like it, thats a total of 50% of each - Blizzard doesn't want half of it's playerbase to wish it was darker - so they will most likely darken it, NP there.
I voted Good Job. The new look is sleek and diablo will fit nicely into it's new role as a colourful but at times dark and menacing. The bad/dark times are even better with blended with good/light times.
I want darker and more scary game with lots of blood and corpses in the dungeons. Also i don't want stylish (in fact i still call it cartoonish or wowish) and too blurry game. There is something wrong with textures. For example terrain and walls are too clean.
Btw please do not make trees like in WOW and do not make rainbows. It destroys all the ambience totally.
For the last bring back old armor (especially shoulder pads and helmet) and inventory screen.
I think it is great as it is. Yeah, its a bit more colorful and not as grainy and dark like the previous two installments, but that's the way things are.
I love the design and effects of the spells by the witch doctor. Very fluid colors and looks downright awesome, I can not wait to see the Sorcerer/Sorceress spells.
My only thought would have to be make it a tad darker. Not the colors, just the environment. I would like to see more torches and fire lighting the path, have some dark corridors that is dimly lit by torches reflected off walls and have daylight shinning in through cracks.
Armor design is looking to be great. I am looking forward to all the different designs they have in store, and i am happy to see that it wont just be a set number of generic looks for certain types of armors.
Anyways, hope this helps and I hope to see this on the store shelves as a well polished and well designed piece or art that pushes Diablo over the edge as a game and story.
I'd do no improvements or changes so far, but if you the devs see fit. I'd support you. You've brang me a lot of other very very fun games and I've spent far to many hours playing them. I'll leave this in your hands, because I don't have a design in games creation Great to see a new character, especially his array of skills that were nothing like I expected but that is a good thing. I thought you were just going to rebox d2 with 3d, I'm glad you've put a style spin on it as releasing another Diablo the exact same as the last would be like trying to revive a dead mutilated llama that would just hurt sales but youve done a really nice job in revitalising it!
Let's not have another vanguard. Stay true to what you've showed off so far.
That's obvious, but it's now when Blizzard should see hear the fans roar, if almost half of the fans think that they need to rethink their art design, it's better for them to see that now, not in few more months into the development.
The games already been in development for 3 years. Concept art is like one of the first stage of developing a game. Aside from completely redoing every single graphic the only thing they could really do is tone down the lighting a bit. If you really want to wait an extra 2 years to get your game just because your graphics in ONE paticular spot in the game werent as pretty as you'd hoped then thats kind of sad. Wait till more content is released till you make a judgement... it cant ALL be "gothic" every good game needs contrast
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
-My Position on Black Metal: "So you know those annoying kids you see running around listening to crap radio rock bands wearing tripp jeans and shopping at hot topic? Well, Black Metal is just the next big thing... have fun with your trends, I'm gonna stay metal"
I think the textures will become sharper and more defined as development continues. It's what I expect anyways since what they have right now is enough to create content for the game and a they can always improve the graphic quality more near the end of their release
I implore blizzard to keep the current artset and style, the game looks breath taking and the combat looks off the chain. It's a really nice mix you've created a beautful dark in it's own right game while flowing like fluid. I voted keep it as is. Good work blizzard, give yourself a pat on the back
What i saw was quite nice but such a game should be nothing less than perfect. Sharpening the image, playing around a bit with contrast and brightness can easily make the color scheme darker and similar to the images posted here.
The only thing that i actually disliked a lot is the fact that enemies' corpses disappear. (and very quickly after you kill them too!) I can only hope this is just for the purpose of the "early" gameplay video. It was lovely in d2 where after long fights the whole ground was covered in remains and bodies. This DOES take a big chunk of coolness away from the game in my opinion.
I'll play it anyway but i'd enjoy it more that way.
well i just dont want them to have it turn out like WoW, an its easy to tell that they want to have a contrast between the two, not that wow is bad but Diablo has always been the "evil" francais.
My biggest concern was the character and Armour designs. Literally the first thing I thought of when looking at the Barbarian on both the official website and gameplay video was that off a WoW Warrior. The Armour was just too big and cartoony.
I personally love the new style that they are going for. The catacombs is pretty dark for what it is, an early level-type dungeon. In my mind, you'd want this place to be dark, but you'd want to save all your horror-like stuff for later in the game. As for the outdoors, I actually like the colors used. Maybe it could benefit a few more dead bodies, or demon-like camps. You know, pikes and what not. As for the Heroes themselves, so far I like the really flashy stuff. I especially like the purple armor set for the Witch Doctor. Having the drab-looking armor like the Female Barbarian had is also good as well. Over all, I love this new art style. Even if it is a little bit more colorful than the previous Diablo games, it really doesn't matter. At the end of the day, those zombies are going to be spilling their blood all over those pretty greens and color blues.
But they can't be disproportionate and unrealistic, since that isn't the style of the Diablo games. I could see it on, say, a Barbarian, but we don't want that kind of stuff on casters. Speaking of which, I do hope they bring back robes
Hi people. Well, I like the way they are travelling with this graphic direction. I like the dark Diablo too, and for now I think that this is the most colorfull that the game can be without losing it´s spirit.
As others I really fear the WOW cartoon look getting into Diablo but I thing they are doing a good job with this balance. Maybe the next areas and chars we see can give a more clear picture of the whole game.
In my opinion darker would be better, but haven t yet seen the whole game. But i do like the pictures that have been darken, correcting the lighting to look like this would be perfect!!

Sometimes listening to the fans can backfire. Ever heard of Vanguard?
Although I do agree people are free to voice their opinions.
But, of course, its Blizzards prerogative to ignore them.
