I loved thinking up a new character type, then building a character and watching them grow, seeing if they would be good or not.
If you can total respec, you'd just choose whatever skills were right for your area, and blow through the game once. It's idiotic.

Zynalc: "I believe that most of the people have read some books or seen some films about santa. The typical figure of santa is not invincibley powerful but always very very fraudulent."
I agree that it depends on the leveling curve in the game.
If you can get rushed to a very high level in 1-2 days, then no it shouldn't really be an issue. After the first generation of players hit high levels, getting help shouldn't be an issue.
But if leveling is tedious and requires a lot of time input, then some leniency on specs should be given. Such as a quest after beating all difficulty modes, or an option to respec after beating all bosses on a certain difficulty. (That is if they are still doing like in the old Diablos, same quests just different difficulties)
I personally hated leveling a char to 85-92ish, regretting not going max block or vice versa, and then remaking the same character just to relevel, with almost an identical spec just to put more points in dex than I had before.
Respeccing is incredibly stupid, I can't believe they are considering it. Isn't this exactly the opposite of a "non-linear" story, if you think about it? If there's an optimum skill distribution, and you have the possibility of choosing it any time, everyone will end up looking the same, wearing the same armor and items..
You lose exp. and money if you die. And if you don't allocate skill properly- it's your fault again. Next time with another character you do something else. Come on Blizzard, don't ruin the classic.
Adding the ability to change choices will only kill the whole feeling in my opinion.
Also, please don't allow saving games. I don't want the ability to load. Only save & exit. The more you care about not dying / surviving, the more chances you'll have of not dying. No, it's not the other way around.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
if you are to afraid of all skill builds being the same, NOT respecing will casue this moreso then respeccing will. Look at the d2 hamerdin. I have never seen a different hammerdin in my life... Look at the WoW warlock. I rarely see the same two warlocks, and if i do odds are they both suck.
Respecing comes han in han with a well balansed talent tree. Respeccing allows the INDIVIDUAL player to play around and see what HE likes best. If this si doen correctly, what you end up with is a charecter that is well tailored to the person playing it. Repecing at least in WoW allows for diverce and effective play styles, and gives the game a stratagy feel, leaving cookiecutter builds for the nubs.
respecs will encourage cookie cutter builds. = lame. although balancing changes in the begging owuld not make people happy.
i dont see how this could happen. d2 was the ULTIMATE example of being overrun with cookie cutter builds... please support your claims people like i did
I think respeccing ruins the uniqueness of a character. It's no fun to build a character up a certain way, and then break them down, and build them up entirely different. Makes it seem like a character can do anything then.
Think about it for PvP. Characters will be respeccing to defeat you in like 2 hits and you can't stop it. It's ridiculous.
im nto saying that unlimited respecs are a good idea. But i see nothing wrogn with people working their ass of for respecs, just liek they woudl work their ass of for gear. People that spend their grind time on respecing rather then gear would know their class better i think... an i want that to be an option. Brings a lot of player "skill" to the game

This. I am against respec, but agree with limited 'undos' for misclicks.
Re-spec does ruin the character. I'd like to end up feeling my Barbarian as a person focused on WW and Leap et cetera. Being able to change what he has learned is silly.
NO!
Silly is for the role-players. if you want to roleplay, i hope to god they give you ur own server. If you want to be the best you can be, then respecing is a valuable tool to learn exactly what there is out there.
It really depends on the leveling curve. If it going take month or 2 to level a char then they do need add away to have respecs. If the leveling curve is like d2 fast then no. But i also think in any case. It would be nice if each level you could be allow to change 1 skill point and 5 att points as you level up or every 5 levels ect.. Just for the time you get a brain fart or happy finger.
No no no and no. I like the fact you can jack up a character and have to restart it adds a lot to the replay of the game. Respec allows you to go oh I fucked up let me fix that. CLICK ok all good now. Go ahead wow fans flame on.

i don't like replaying games. many people dont. i especially dont liek being FORCED to replay games... i never replayed d2, a good 2 hour uberlevlign session was all i needed to build something new. and if it took me two hours to grind up the money needed for a respec, i would not mind

I don't want to see stat respecs, that would just be stupid, people would just abuse the system to suit items for there characters.
Even with respec on skills it would be limited to cost a hefty price.
I agree 100%.

good point.
Takes out the fun of the game.

Oh come on, how many misclicks do you actually have?
If you have muscle spasms don't play clicking games
I'm against respecing by the way.
