what in the world makes you think they would start with more than 5? Nothing would give you that impression at all. Your disappointment is your own fault for over speculation.

Every game has to start somewhere. I'm sure we will see more characters eventually as other people have said. Also, There is how many builds for each character on d2 right now? Plenty.. enough to satisfy anyones needs. I think even if it were to stay at 5 classes I would enjoy the game, and each person will enjoy a different way of playing each character. It becomes harder to employ more characters when characters are diverse, because balance becomes an issue. This makes me believe that we will see much diversity among the characters introduced.
also, maybe they took out necro since having a swarm of skeletons might lag people?
They never said whether the necro was in or not, but how it sounded was that they didn't take him out per say but rather they probably didn't put him in. I think he gave it away with an "if" they put in the necro they "would" do yada yada. The witchdoctor and the necro do not conflict in roles

Going from 7 classes in the last game to 5 doesn't seem like a smack in the face to you? So we have to wait for an expansion for more classes, when the game has taken this long to come out already? I think you're the idiot.
I guess you just have lower standards, too blinded by fanboyism.
No. There were 5 classes in the last game. 7 classes in the last expansion. I don't really care for classes though, as each of them are fun to me.
Plus, how long did it take for an expansion to come out? Less than a year. There was even going to be another but it was abandoned.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
They stated that each class will get it's own class specific weapons/armor; hopefully, that means a lot of different items.
Also, in the Diablo 3's site FAQ they stated that each class will have some of their own class specific quests. If that holds out to be true, not only would that be awesome, I think this will mark the first time that I actually play every class, in any game, to the ending. I am totally psyched about this game.
Also, in the character profiles the Barbarian is listed as "entry 25" and the Witch Doctor is listed as "entry 13". Any ideas as to why they aren't like 1 and 2?

An "expansion" is an add on the THE ORIGINAL GAME. Making it part of the original game. Storyline, everything. Where did we leave off last? yes, the expansion. Why should we have LESS classes?
Diablo to Diablo 2 to Diablo2LOD went 3 to 5 to 7. This game should have 7 or more. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying a massive amount of classes, just enough where it feels like not everyone is playing the same thing.
Hi all, i want to say that i am REALLY, GLAD, that Diablo 3 was announced as i am a huge fan of Diablo and Diablo 2. I saw the gameplay trailer and the game looked A M A Z I N G ^^ Blizzard has my trust for almost every matter but one :
the five classes statement... I am really disapointed, even if each class can be built up differently five classes is not enough.... As for the barbarian we kinda know it already and as for the witch doctor his abilities are cool but his style suck...
Well even if the game was announced, and it sure seem like it's totallly goin to be an impressive big hit, i can't help but to be unhappy about the 5 classes only fact....
Well i can only hope that they are going to add at least 1 or 2 classes for the release...
Maybe a massive scale petition about the players wanting more classes would make them realize and take into account that people want more....
Thats why you have more than 5 classes, if you don't like the witchdoctor, just don't choose it. People are complaining because they didnt see a character fitting them yet. Don't worry.
On the Dev Panel they stated that they don't have a set number of classes yet. I'm going to go with the most recent word from the lead designer and say that Diablo III could very well have 7+ classes. As long as the classes are in depth and fun, 5 is more than enough for me tbh.
I'm curious if these people are "just happy to have a girlfriend" even if shes below average. Or "just happy to have a job" even though it's cleaning toilets.
Why should you just be happy it exists? Don't just accept anything with a Diablo or warcraft logo attached and assume it's going to be amazing. The game will be a success theres no doubt in my mind, even if it was a complete pile of the cow king's finest dung. Blizzard stands to make money, they are going to release it, hold them to a standard. Especially considering how long it took them to make this game.

I'm just basing this on the FAQ from the diablo3 site.
Seriously, what a fucking let down man. i'm not trying to ruin anyones day here but I'm angry about the limited amount of classes.
They could have at least had 7 "D2xpack". To actually have less classes seems like a complete joke to me. I'm a huge Diablo fan, huge. But Blizzard is failing to raise the bar here. This isn't 2000 where this type of game was new.
I know people are here and excited, I'm excited too. But I feel really discouraged about only 5 classes.
Furthermore, I think it's fairly obvious the type of classes there will be.
-Caster "sorcerer"
-Ranged "amazon,rogue,ranger"
- Support "Paladin?"
why are u so sure paladin will be in 3 a rogue cant be because she was in d1 ,sorcerer could be i dont think paladin will be because they added some new skills to the barbarian or depends u now why starcraft has only 3 races and its the most balanced game

Because it was a step up? 3 to 5.
I just hope the classes are at least new and interesting. The barb is old, the witch doctor does not seem interesting.
Good formulas would be the old classes + a few new ones
or
All new classes

we dont even know if it is going to be 5.. You all kno blizz. It prob will be "*grins* shit, didnt i tell you? Its 5+5=10 new classes!"
