Would you be upset if Blizzard announced that Diablo III is in development but at the same time stopped offering Battle.net support for Diablo II? What about when its released? Should they continue supporting it?
i am thinking it will be more like gaming consoles. they will have both in production for sometime. but later in the future the older console will be uninterested. same with diablo
once diablo 3 comes out. im sure they will keep battle.net up for diablo 2. (unless what i have been hearing about a battle.net 2.0 version happens) then later on in time. depending on battle.net changes. then diablo 2 will probably not have the battle.net compatability.
and look at diablo 1. it still has battle.net function. and there only about 20 people in the chat rooms at a time. (and about 18 of them are bots).

agreed. I think they will continue to keep b.net d2 and lod up for years after d3 release. Though with Even less support and servers
I would imagine that support for D2 will continue for some time, given that Diablo is still playable on battle.net.
But I guess it might depend on the nature of the changes brought to bear with the advent of battle.net 2.0.
They'll keep it up just like they're going to keep Star Craft up on b.net (they directly said that about SC). The same exact thing will happen to Diablo 2 that happened to Diablo 1, everyone that has a good enough PC will migrate to Diablo 3 and the die hards that dont want to lose their stupid botted lvl 99 characters with "l33t" gear that they bought on d2items.com will stay and harass the D2 populace until no one wants to play anymore.
Did Diablo die when Diablo II was released?
Did Warcraft II die when Warcraft III was released?
Did Everquest die when Everquest II was released?
Did Baldur's Gate die when Baldur's Gate II was released?
Well that last one was always TCP/IP so it doesn't really count. People still play the old games, I don't see why Blizzard would stop the enjoyment of their game.
Will Starcraft die when Starcraft II is released? I doubt it.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
theyll keep diablo 2 servers up for some time.. becuz everyone will want to see what *started it all* and play it for a little bit when the excitement for diablo 3 dies down.
They still support original Diablo, and they only have an average of 300 people worldwide on at the same time. Diablo II sits at about 40,000 worldwide on at the same time, and will go up once Diablo III is announced, but will drop a bit once Diablo III is released.
It won't be discontinued... just become more forgotten than it is now

Also I will be pissed if they use the same model for Diablo III that they used for WoW. I don't like their whole realm system. I want to just be able to hop in a game with friends and not worry about realm transfers and whatnot.
Why are you all so sure that DIII will be on b.net?
Because everything other than WoW is?
ya. it seems that because wow was a mmo. that battle.net wouldnt have worked so good for it. so if diablo 3 does become an mmo then there might not be battle.net function on it. but lets all hope we have battle.net. i would like to use this battle.net 2.0 ive been hearing about.
it's just a plain bad idea to stop battle.net for d.2 since alot of people still play, besides the oln thing at this point they would drop service for is diablo 1 and that would happen in like a decade
As stated, if it does stop, it's likely due to massive hardware and software changes which just makes it too much of a pain to keep it running for the amount of player who will still be using it.
Isn't Blizzard obligated to provide the customers with B.net availability for some time though? Just a thought.

PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

It won't, that's for sure.
