They are better than D2 graphics are you even serious?

to be fair i have not played D1 in ages, but i remember certain elements and i dont feel Diablo 1 or 2 graphics to be at all good for anything other than Nostalja on a game for year 2008+ (i dont remember comparing D1 to D2 graphics anyway...)

it should be a big improvement over the last 2, keeping the atmosphere on the first game and ofcourse to be 3D, 2D games are long ago
  • #42
3D sucks. D3 will be 3D therefore will look worse considerably than D1 (not mentioning D2 because it was worse). Unless, of course, you ran it in fullscreen mode on a 1600x1200 monitor...

2D games passed only because people go after technology instead of actual quality.
  • #43
Wow, Fable, and Warcraft III look like their using an engine that's being put too much strain on.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
  • #44
3D sucks in graphics, what makes you think that......some of the latest final fantasy graphics>>>any 2D game, most 2D games

bad 3D graphics imo is World of Warcraft, Warcraft 3, Fable i wouldnt say is terrible but it isnt "good" either
  • #45
Oblivion has FPS allowance so therefore they can actually make it look "nice". But it is terribly optimized. But when it comes to these games like RTS or RPG there are too many units therefore they considerably lower poly count, texture quality, etc., so we end up with crappy 3D graphics and I would rather have 2D because 2D is unlimited (see the size of Daggerfall compared to Oblivion).
  • #46
what about 3rd persons? God of War has some of the best 3D graphics before Play station 3 games, those graphics seem quite nice, they may be able to do a lot of things with diablo as a 3D game but 2D puts a lot of limits, size limits on monsters for example, limits on some special effects designs, the chances of Diablo being 2D are unlikely tho, its next to nothing but its curious to wonder why people want 2D, what do you think of Titan quest, its graphics are not bad imo and its mostly 3D if not all.
  • #47
    Diablo is 3rd person.

most of the games on the list are. ES IV, is really the only exception, but it can be played in 3rd person view if you want.
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
  • #48
sorry i meant like a 3D first peron, like God of war
  • #49
    Huh?

3rd person basically means you see the whole of the character, like in Diablo, God Of War, and pretty much every game in the poll.

First person is you see what they see, like in a shooter or Elder Scrolls and Might and Magic.

3rd person implies that the character is seen from the back. The rest is called top-down, Elfen.
  • #51
so top down isnt part of the 3rd person genre? i was just being vague.

Everything seen from a view-point other than the character (1st person) or another in-game character (2nd person) is 3rd person. Diablo just happens to be isometric 3rd person, as are SC and WC. The only exception I can think of to this (kinda) is Super Mario 64, where the cameraman is a defined character, even if he does nothing but hold the camera. It's still 3rd person.

thats what i was getting at.

No. 3rd person and top-down may seem like they are the same thing but they are very different in terms of gameplay. 3rd Person is not used as the typical meaning here.

And then there is 2nd person which people also call 3rd person. That's more like PoP and TR but I did not play those long enough to be sure.
  • #55
    PoP? TR?

2nd person has, to my knowledge, yet to be used very well in more than a handful of games.

And strictly speaking, top-down is 3rd person. It's just a subdivision, like isometric or whatever you call it in Super Mario 64.

EDIT: Does PoP mean Prince of Persia? Because that game is not 2nd person.

Second person is present in games where you may see your character looking at you ready to jump and stuff. It's just not presented directly because 2nd person cannot be used in FPS. 2nd person is for quests and slow jumping games.

A top down game cannot be third person because it has no fulcrum... LOL... While games like NWN are 3rd person because you can even use that Driving Camera Mode...

    Super Mario 64.
    I think those are scrollers.

That's what it seemed to look like. A mix of 3rd and 2nd person. MGS also fits this category. How many times does your character slide against a wall with gun ready and you are pretty much seeing him at his front?

Heretic II is complete 3rd person because you'll never see your character's face. That's to point out the difference between PoP and a full-3rd person game.

He's talking about the 3D platformer mario games. Not the tradtional ones, which are side scrolling.

those still arent like diablo, the camera rotates it isn't in a fixed position.

To be like Diablo it has to be 2D or 2.5D or else it has a fulcrum therefore classified as 3rd person still.

but anyway, i meant God of war 2 view lol, so personally if its like that and the pace of the gameplay and action battles is similiar ill be very happy, infact has an RPG (i mean like D2 with items and gear) been implemented into a game like God of war before, i mean running around, jumping and platforming and attacking monsters in many diffrence ways, i think it would be awsome for swarms of fallen in GoW 2 graphics to be around you and you do a series of well scripted attacks that involves interacting with the creatures like Kratos does in GOW, and ofcourse, diffrence types of attack with diffrent types of weapons, ofcourse you cant have D2 without enemies getting shattered in one hit when you really uber and high level so they would have to implement a quick one hit kill for when you too strong for an enemy, but i would like to battle some of the bosses in this similiar style.
