Given als to the nerf to group xp farming, i see next season that people will simply focus less on paragon since at some point it would not be convenient to run it, since 12 gems to 50 nets you 250 mainstat. Given a baseline para 800 for everyone, it's the same stat amount you get to reach 1400.
And it's way faster to do it, maybe even faster to do it solo.
What a retarded idea to cap paragon. If they cap it at 1000, I will have feeling, that I must farm that 1000 paragon levels. And after that, I will play a few games and stop playing. I call it shit. I like it now, where I have paragon 700 on HC hero and paragon 800 on SC hero and I'm playing for fun. And even that I have a feeling, that I'm playing Diablo too much
I really agree with Shapookya and personally looking forward to this awesome patch.
The point is that people think Paragon points is something everyone should have and easy to earn. That is not what a paragon point is. Your paragon level shows your dedication, power, and the way you spent time ingame. Nobody accepts your 300 paragon points for a 60GRift because, let's be honest, you won't even have two of the four main stats from offense finished. There is a huge difference between having + 700 mainstat and not having it. Having a high paragon level requires you to do stronger and harder GRifts, and people just want to do 60 GRifts like it was a normal rift, and that's not okay, because you're not dedicating yourself to the leaderboards, even. If you don't dedicate yourself, you won't get good at a game. The principle applies everywhere else.

I think its not the paragons alone that are the problem. Its just that paragon farming is the best way to gain more power at some point of the game. I think they are trying to address that by adding additional recipe that will allow us to get more main stat on items, but it can't compete with paragons imho. It's ofcourse nice thing but it will just move a bit that point in time where paragons will be again the best way to gain more power.

Yes, paragon is an infinite progression system to keep people playing. Been like this for what like 2 years now?
It seems right to me like something similar that I've suggested in the past about upgrading items. I bet the paragon system will be the next overhaul with a similar upgrade system.
And unless people are already over 2000p I don't think they will mind a 4000+buff to main stat from items. Its a lot faster upgrading gems to 50-70rank than reaching p2000.
Yes paragon is an infinite progression, but you have no choices where to put those points, its just ur main stat, and that is very boring way to progress imho. Same with new upgrades - they will be fun for a short period of time till you max it out and thats all.
I always though that this game is about hunting items, not gaining paragons. Paragons as a side progression are nice, but its problematic when it becomes the only way to go. 2 years ago hitting that 800 paragons and gearing fully wasnt that easy for casual player like me, now getting full ancient set and hitting 800 paragons is in range for anyone, and only thing that left is grinding more main stat from paragons.
Don't get me wrong, im thankfull that they are doing those changes to the game, im just voicing my opinion about lacking some choices at late game porgression.

How exactly do you propose fixing that? Infinitely scaling gear stats so that gear is always the best way to improve your character? As is if you just removed paragon or removed its benefits after a certain point you just have no progression rather than more emphasis on finding gear. People who are running massive amounts of paragon levels are already kitted out in the best or nearly the best gear and that is why paragon matters to them as it is the only progression left that they can continue to build their character with.
I am ok with changes to paragon regarding season or special competitive segments ONLY. It should remain unlimited anywhere else (though I wouldn't mind a bit of a change to make it more interesting than just mainstat after 800).
Paragons aren't the problem. Lack of choices or other infinite paths is. It's not about top player vs average player paragons disproportion.
You can do many things to extend that time when u can do more stuff that just paragon farming like:
- infinite gem levels just limited by amount of gems you have (that would also fix problem with having lots of useless gems), with some random factor (like chance to add some small additional stat to gem when created)
- more variations on ancient system (like chance to roll a socket on ancient item), similar to wow
- tweaks to paragon system, removal/increase of limits for all tabs (with diminishing returns for points distribution)

O give me a break with this response.
You do not play the game solely to gain paragon levels, YOU GAIN PARAGON LEVELS SO YOU CAN FISH GREATERS MORE EFFECTIVELY.
Stop being a troll because someone has a different view than you!
They did say they gonna do something, more important right now i would say is the lag issues and balance, i wanna see a season where all classes have equal amount of options and are more balanced then ever before, no more pacman charts like rhyker shown where 1 class involves into pacman and other classes becoming vulnerable poor ghosts
Hi.
Nice improvements are coming, developers try hard to keep players interested.
But they ignore the most essential issue.
I don't understand, why they want players to do tiresome farm routine all day.
I don't think, there exists a single player, who loves to grind paragon all day.
Everybody is against it.
There is no profit in it. Players, who farm all day, don't buy extra licenses.
If it doesn't make extra profit, why do they ignore that problem?
One more open letter is needed?

While the title might be a little dramatic, I basically agree with you OP.
I'd vote for a power cap on paragon, with levels gained after that made purely for either gold find / cosmetic rewards.

Paragon should be something you would want to farm. Not need to farm
Why is paragon this important to you?
Are you competing for the "top 5 best monster slayers" so you really need those 0.0001% improvements that you get for a paragon level?
Or do you just like having some bar to fill up, out of some compulsory need for visual progress or something?
I honestly completely ignore paragon levels.
Every 10 or 15 gained levels i actually remember they exist, so i slap the points wherever the guide told me to.
Never have i cared about paragon levels or even bothered to farm for them.
If you are playing d3 so extremely competitively that ultra-high paragon is something absolutely mandatory, i really don't know what to tell you.
We are just playing completely different games...
