Hey guys, today I drop 1000 Forgotten Souls on 20 weapon reforges on both my S4 Monk and Witch Doctor in hopes of crafting (any) Ancient weapon. I discuss the cost, time investment vs. payoff, what to expect, why you should aim for at least 20 rerolls (RNG can be cruel), and more. I got trolled a bit with only one mediocre Ancient out of 20 and a normal sidegrade, but it's better than nothing. Enjoy, discuss, and good luck on your crafting!
lost 3550 souls that way during the bonus bounties weekend. imo its not worth it unless you set a cap where you will stop reforging or you sitting at 10k+ souls. Since its easier to hunt for normal mats maybe its better to try your rng with the upgrade rare item recipe.
You have access to a wonderous artifact of old, and that's what you want to do with it? Very well...
Nice vid man, the cube can be such a troll at times
'this wasn't your worst idea .. not quite'
Anyway I think it's a great supplement to upgrading, since eventually you'll have a surplus of souls. I wouldn't bank on it initially, as it's more of an endgame grind (just like Ancients are).
Rng sucks sometimes, but this a great tool for finding a high end furnace/starmetal/fist of az. Fist of az in particular is hard to come by and upgrading rares is difficult due to the 15~ fist weapons that are in that pool.
I just spent 1000 souls 2 days ago to try and get an ancient furnace. No such luck. Those souls probably took me 2-3 days to farm. The time doesn't includes the stupid mats, but thank goodness they had a double the bounty weekend.
Why spend your souls.....?? Use the upgrade rare item because: a) the mats, as previously said, are easier to get and you get a ton of legendaries to breakdown until you get the item you need which RETURNS souls as well.....

Damn I know this feeling haha. I've blown through ~600 FS in the past day upgrading gear and trying to craft the elusive perfect hellfire neck. I crafted 35 Hellfire necks and had no luck.
I'm running a speed farming T8 HotA build with Sages. It gets about 500 DBs and 55 legs per/hour. Use those DBs to upgrade rare items in hope of upgrades, if not DE them so it works out to 75 FS per/hour.

And for what do you need those souls if you don't spend them to reroll weaps?
Make Hellfire rings and Amys... Convert set item... Hmmm

What other can you do with the souls?
You cannot upgrade items with the forgotten souls mate.
I forgot to multi-quote so just FYI mate, you can craft Hellfire jewelerry and convert set items. Plus for the reforge you need bounty mats which make thisngs even worse. So, I stick to my preference of upgrading rare but it depends what you prefer mate

thats why i didnt said anything about fists. and its from my experiences, i crafted like 10 2h barbarian weapon and got like 2 gavels ( 2/10 1ancient 1 non ancient) 6 2h mace and got 1 furnace ( 1/6 non ancient ). Of course reforging legendary is more objective.
PS: upgrading rare for fist is a joke ! crafted 60 fists and only got 1 lion claw ancient
While crafting Hellfire the organs are the limiting factor, not the souls. And converting set items you will only need at the beginning when your char is new and barely has any gear. I'm not saying that you should start reforging legendaries as soon as you have 50 souls. But there's a point in game where you have all your sets complete and all your Hellfire jewelry you need. Then the next significant boost in damage will be a (better) ancient weapon.
Fair enough

i rerolled focus 300 times didnt even get an ancient with decent rolls nor one with the stats needed. even switched games after 100 rolls. Rerolling sucks. Wont do it again. Now im crippled on souls for a long long time again.
You sure about that? 300 rerolls is 15,000 souls.
And 1500 bounty mats...
In general though, I think reforging is awesome especially if/when there's a bonus weekend, like double caches (I farmed about 600 mats over those 3 days).

from my experience for the gavel and furnace, upgrade from rare easier to obtain.

Rolled my Dod around 25 times, ended up at 1950. Found one that was 3k+, unless they lower the cost ill probably never use this receipe again

I also rolled about 30 daggers trying to get it in the first place.

For 15k souls I'd much rather just upgrade rings, better chance IMO if it was really 300 rolls. I lucked out in S3 with a pretty GG ancient Focus: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Mikhail-1367/hero/60367316
