So I'm coming back to computer gaming after a 2 year stint without it. I would really like to get into D3 and get "good" at it. I played it when it first launched but I had never played a diablo game before so I didn't really know what to do, expect, or how to really play. So I got bored of it and went back to just Wow and playing shooters. However, I have been watching a ton of streamers (mostly datmodz) and I feel like I'd really enjoy this game. So I have been doing a TON of reading on this game. My new computer should be delivered by tuesday so obviously I want to build it and jump straight into D3 but I want to know what my goal is because I just can't rap my head around what exactly I'm supposed to be doing during seasons.
Can anyone help me? Like obviously I've gotta get to 70 and farm gear, but how do I go about that? What's the order on how to farm things.
I can figure out how to optimize my gear and can get builds off of Dfans, but I was hoping for a step by step walk through of what I have to do when I get to 70.
Fun thing about Season 4 is that you have The Journey at the top right corner of your screen. Click that icon and it will give you partial goals to aim for. First few things are easy and they get progressivly harder. They not only sort of tell you what to do, but also WHEN to do them. Some things you will probably get before they even appear on your Journey while others you have to actively hunt down and do. But they're good. Use the Journey as a hint on what to do when you get to 70.
As for the farming part, it is best done in a group. It's also more fun in a group. But really, you can do it solo. It just takes longer. A basic rundown of things most people do upon hitting 70:
Start farming Nephalem Rifts (if you haven't already).
Start doing Greater Rifts to get Legendary gems and upgrades to gear and gems.
Keep doing Bounties for mats, xp and loot.
Use Kanai's Cube!
Have fun.
Edit: I just went through the Journey items to give you an idea of what they're about and what to do to complete them. This is Chapter 1 of the Season Journey:
Complete 5 Bounties (Adventure mode only)
Complete a Nephalem rift (Also Adventure)
Socket a gem in an item (Both modes possible, just need one of them, not both)
Kill one of the Act 1-4 Main Bosses.
Raise the 3 Artisans to level 5 each.
Reach Level 35.
As you can see, pretty basic stuff, also pretty easy. Chapter 2 is more of the same and reach level 60. Chapter 3 is 70. In Chapter 4 you will want to solo a Greater Rift to at least level 10, which is the equivalent of fighting on Torment 1 difficulty. Most people can do that with no problems upon reaching 70 or shortly after. It will also ask you to start using Kanai's Cube, which I can only recommend you do as soon as you can, even while leveling the right legendary power can be a major boost if you are fortunate enough to GET ONE! If you don't, oh well, you will eventually, but the cube is awesome.
Awesome! Thank you so much. I will definitely follow that journey feature. I got so confused because there really isn't any guides and streamers arnt exactly direct on what they are doing. But I appreciate the in depth guide from you on what to do! So excited to get this pc built and start.
try to get a nice ancient weapon with the cube by upgrading rares to legendary. (white/blue/yellow x50, breath x25) you can craft rare weapons of your desired type to do that. if there are few leg items of that type, its ofc more easier to get your desired one ancient. Like Witchdoc can easily get an ancient Scrimshaw, because there are just a few (i guess 3) legendary Spears around. Leg means also Set, just for clarification
1. farm rifts aquivalent to your power for DB/mats/gr keys, take a look at the sage set at some point. you shouldnt die (much) and elites should be done in few seconds.
2. farm grifts to get atleast 60% on your gem upgrades at start.
3. farm bounties on t1 or t7 for mats and act mats. only bonus.
and always use the cube by extracting strong powers. dont get yourself limited by spending act mats without sparing some for "that items".
This would be the order id suggest.
there are charts around with dropchances for every torment, i guess youll find them easily around. (like it makes no sense to do bounties t2-6 because act mats stay the same amount)
Ok so as far as torments go only do t1 and t7? I've been looking up charts on various things and I'll obviously get a better understanding of exactly what you are talking about when I get to actually play. I plan on being a mage or WD.
add me if your on NA servers - ysoserious#1178; i've been known to help a new player or 2 in my day

NA servers - add me if ya want - ysoserious#1178. - i run a clan if anyone wants an invite. no requirements to join - as long as your nice and friendly your more than welcome
bounties on t1 or t7 yes. inclusive bonus t1-6 is 6 actmats and t7-10 8actmats. take note that bounties are split farmed in group, so you got to do a bounty alone with mobs 75% hp more per player.
rifts you have to try yourself which torment, just dont fight elites/ bosses for too long. better kill 5 elites on t2 than 3 elites on t3 in the same timeframe, for example. fast is in most times the more efficient way.
grifts do atleast 2 lvl higher than your current lowest used gem, to get atleast 3x 60% chance on gem upgrade. grifts give extra chances on legendaries and best for xp (wont go in that details now unless you want it lol). spend as much time there as you got keys for it. id recommend to run with the 60% rule until you need like max 10 minutes for a grift.
if you want to group up much, dont plan on wizard, sorry to say that!
Well good thing I seen the WD and thought that would be more fun
But thank you for the advice!
Do rifts on Normal difficulty first until you have some legs with decent stats (or craft yellows with high Crit Chance and Crit Damage, i.e. gloves, rings and an amulet). Get a socket on your weapon and put an Emerald in for more crit damage. A legendary weapon with decent stats will give you a huge boost. Go to torment difficulty as soon as you deal enough damage, don't bother with Hard, Master and Expert difficulties. Go to a higher difficulty only if you can handle elites easily. Elites shouldn't take more than few seconds to kill.
Do bounties only in group and split, never do them solo because they take too much time. You have double drop rate of legendaries inside of rifts, so you don't want to waste too much time outside. Focus on getting your class specific set, which only drop on Torment levels. Don't try too hard to get that one set you want to play, just equip the set you completed first. Your first priority is to complete your set, not to get an ancient weapon. Spend all your bloodshards and your crafting mats to get your set complete. Once a set is complete, it will catapult you directly to Torment 4-6.
While doing rifts on Normal at the beginning, class specific sets can't drop because they are Torment-only legs. So you want to get to Torment asap. But keep in mind that Torment only legs can somehow be dropped in greater rifts, even in the lower levels. So you don't want to save up those greater rift keys but use them every once in a while, I'd suggest everytime you have 3-5 of them.
If you are on EU servers, feel free to add me. I'll gladly help you.

Awesome! Thank you. A lot of good incite to look into. I know it'll take me a second to get into the core of the game but I'm glad you guys have a lot of good advice
