I have been playing Diablo 3 from the day it landed. I remember how little stuff ever dropped, legs were fantasy in many peoples minds because we simply never seen them or set items drop. When I realized that diablos drops were centered around the Auction House it was then I decided that I would no longer play the game.
About 2 months ago, after reading and hearing about all the changes I decided to comeback and try the game again. I created my first Sessions 3 Char at the very end of session 3.
Within a matter of a week, I had more legs and set items then I knew what to do with. However, due to past experience with the game I horded every single drop until I had no choice but turn them into dust because of storage space. To me it seemed they went to far in the other direction and had made it to easy to gear up, however I was happy with that, it allowed me to be casual yet still able to get decent gear.
Now, with latest patch, it seems things are even easier to get between Cube and Kalda. Could not get a Witching hour to drop, Cube please give me one, 4 belts later I have it. I need a Crashing Rain Belt, Kalda gives me a yellow, cube it, 7 attempts later Crashing Rain Belt.
Now, from a casual player this seemed fantastic, however I suspect that within about 1 month I will be tired of chains these .01% changes to gear and stop playing. I cant help but feel that Vanilla was bad and left a bad taste in your mouth, but this seems worse. It sucks the fun and excitement out of it.
In the past getting a good self found item was exciting and made you happy, now with Kalda and Cube its like give me more free stuff. Starting to wonder if Obama is in charge of the reward system.
Or just don't use the cube in that manner and it won't suck the fun out of it?! No one is forcing you to get the gear that way, but you chose to do it because you didn't want to wait.
Sorry to say that but if you haven't played the game in two years because you didn't like it and coming back now and you still don't like what Diablo 3 is I think you just don't like the game at all and suggest you play something more fun or appealing to you.
I play this game since day one. I've been taking some break here and there for 2-3 month since 2012 and I personally think the game hasn't been better than that ever. And I love it.
If you think it's to easy try playing hardcore or start a different toon or another build.

The season is underway. Don't know if I'll make it through.
There's a lot more to this game than simply dropping legendary items. Getting these items is only part of the process. How you build, how you mix and match, how you cube.... that is the business end of itemization in D3 patch 2.3.
Simply getting a 6 piece set together isn't going to get you anywhere special. It's what you do with it that counts.
One can be a cynic and think all of these changes were meant to cater to casual players. Or one could look deeper still and see that Diablo 3 is almost rebellious in it's freedom to build without having to purchase your items with real cash. The irony here is; Many of the people I've seen calling modern D3's itemization feeding frenzy as a call to casuals, are the same people who bought their way to success in earlier versions of D3 (AH's) and all throughout D2.
So we can ask; Is it more "casual" to buy your items with real cash, or to have easier access to them by actually playing the game?
The developers of Diablo 3 seemed to have flipped a unique switch within the ARPG genre by allowing players easier access to the items they need for builds without the insidious presence of 3rd party handlings. If you think simply cubing up a Witching Hour has elevated you to the top of Mount Fuck All, you are sorely mistaken, sir.
Beyond simple acquisition of desired items must come the knowledge in how to properly use it; or; When to use something else to pump massive amounts of NON-SHEET dps and toughness from a build using items some people disregard due to the lack of an orange (legendary) property (String of Ears/Eye of Etlich etc).
For your Diablo 3 enjoyment, might I suggest a beverage change for yourself? Switch from Haterade to refreshing Kool Aid. Much better to quench your thirst.
When i first saw all the cube recipes myself i admit i was suspicious too.
However, in practice i noticed that i spend a lot of time playing actively as a result of easier gearing, as you described it. Rather than doing runs for hours/ days on end with my brain set to standby, I am always trying to improve how my gear/ skills work together in town, and testing it out in rifts. Maybe a slightly different build only works with immaculate micro and I'm excited to practice. And grifts allow for benchmarking progress.
Im really proud or how much Blizzard has evolved their game. Even if it was painful slow to change at many times.
Diablo is at is absolute best now with 2.3 and the cube. So many people came back the servers started kneeling. No. The cube did not kill diablo 3 and the game is not dead in any ways or form
I do wish people would learn to read and not jump to conclusions. Not anywhere did I say I did not like the game, to be honest I love many of the changes that have been made.
Diablo has been in the past an item hunt game, yes I can not use the cube, yes I can not use Kalda. So is Diablo no longer a item hunt? If so, what exactly is the end game? Running Rifts over and over, but to run higher level rifts you need better gear. So telling me it is not an item hunt game is very misleading at best.
Yes, I have the option to not use the cube, to not use the gambler. However, that was not the point of my topic. What I was wanting to get from people is not grow up NUB Lrn2Play. I simply want to share my impression of what I see and get other peoples thoughts.
So let me be clear, the state of the game is fantastic now that drops are not centered around the AH, I love playing and for the past 2 months have been having a blast. However, I can see this getting very old and stale, for me finding the upgrades was the excitement and the game.
As to the comment, about build diversity, Yes the cube did make for many more interesting builds outside the developer provided ones. However, in the end it is all about the item hunt. Make the hunt to easy and the game looses my attention

Being clear is always best. You were quite unclear.
I do wish people would learn to read and not jump to conclusions. Not anywhere did I say I did not like the game, to be honest I love many of the changes that have been made.
You made a comment that suggested the current state of the game is angled toward "casuals". A suggestion that could be received as an insult. It is good that your clarified your position.
Diablo has been in the past an item hunt game, yes I can not use the cube, yes I can not use Kalda. So is Diablo no longer a item hunt?
Of course it's still an item hunt. A Lion's Claw is just a Lion's Claw until you grind out an ancient version with beautiful rolls. There are many aspects which still present hardened item grinders like myself with a focus. To be clear myself; I have always advocated for extreme rarity with certain items, I want those White Whales.
I have been pleasantly surprised by how rare some items still can be, and rarer still..... great rolls in Ancient form.
As to the comment, about build diversity, Yes the cube did make for many more interesting builds outside the developer provided ones. However, in the end it is all about the item hunt. Make the hunt to easy and the game looses my attention
I'll break it down as follows; It is now easier to create the build you want. It is still quite difficult to take that build into the upper echelon through finding well rolled items.
BTW: You seemed to get upset that some people (myself included) got the impression you don't like Diablo 3. Have you actually read the title of your own thread?
Like ruksak says, "I have been pleasantly surprised by how rare some items still can be, and rarer still..... great rolls in Ancient form.".
If you're happy with crappy legendaries, then yes, the gear will cease to satisfy you rather quickly. If you are seeking optimization, then you will continue the hunt for quite a long while.
Nope. While the cube and Kadala are their own forms of RNG, they're additional avenues to where we aren't solely at the mercy of whatever drops. I'll agree that it's far easier than ever to get geared up. I'm matching and soon to exceed my previous season numbers and this season's not yet a week old. It's to be expected with how powerful (yet cool) the cube feature is. Does that mean I'm about to be done with season play already? Absolutely not. I've basically got placeholder quality gear in place; I want to replace those with better versions then aim for the stars (and hopefully be able to get a solo rank 60 grift, heh).
I do wish people would learn to read and not jump to conclusions. Not anywhere did I say I did not like the game, to be honest I love many of the changes that have been made.
"I cant help but feel that Vanilla was bad and left a bad taste in your mouth, but this seems worse. "
Sure sounded like someone who didn't like the game.
Do yourself a favor and quit the game. You seem to have misconceived ideas of what the game is about and what makes it fun and we can't change those perceptions given your defensive stance when people signify how your opinion comes across- summed up perfectly by others.

To me the end-game is seeing how high you can get in the GR's. Incremental improvements in gear and builds serves to meet that goal.
Try HC as one of the other posters suggested, it's not for me personally but I bet it removes a large percentage of "making the hunt too easy".
