EDIT: It's now official. S4 on 8/28, only 1 week behind the earliest possible release.
Hey guys, figured I'd start a thread that I'll update to answer a question that's still being asked - when is 2.3/Season 4 landing. I talked about the timeline and requirements on Blizzard's part to make it happen on a certain date here:
If you haven't already watched it, briefly put the following are true:
- Patch 2.3 will not land before Season 3 ends
- Patch 2.3 will be on a Tuesday
- Season 4 will be that Friday (unless something goes wrong)
- We will have 2 weeks' notice before the end of Season 3
So, the latest announcement for Season 3 ending has to be a Monday, 2 weeks prior to Patch Tuesday (again, this is explained in detail in the video). Therefore:
The earliest for Patch 2.3 is:
Tuesday, August 25th
The earliest for Season 4 is:
Friday, August 28th
To keep things simple, I will update the thread accordingly, up until we get a 'Season 3 ending' announcement.
They have streamlined the process so that the patch comes out on maintenance day (Tuesday) and Season comes out in time for the weekend of the patch, barring setbacks.
I like your optimism, but I am pretty sure we can rule out an August 18th release of 2.3. I won't bother to elaborate, and it's not a gut feeling or anything. Taking a lot of different factors into account I'm fairly certain we won't see 2.3 before the calendar flips to September.
A key factor is the power-gap between characters. WD is still wildly underperforming and i sincerely hope they actually aim to fix it, or alleviate the issues to the extent that it's more or less comparable to other classes. Crusader and DH are also somewhat underperforming, but no biggie for them really as this only affects the top GR clears.
All the other seasons have ended on a Sunday if im not wrong. So august release is slowly withering away. Atleast the 18th. We should have had the 2 week notice yesterday then
There's still another patch to come on the PTR, and it hasn't hit yet. My guess is that they'd need a week at least once that hits before it could go live, and that's assuming it's the last patch of the PTR.
It's true what you say, Gorok. Although I think that this patch is going to be different than the previous as there is a whole lot more to test. I've played during every PTR since the one before S1, but this one has some of the biggest changes to gameplay and itemization we've seen to this point.
I forgot to say in my post that one should always take PTR GR leaderboards with a grain of salt, but regardless of GR progression, the WD is still underperforming compared to other classes. Not by a bit, but by a far amount. As celey stated, I also believe that we'll see another patch and another round of PTR wipe/new season before they make the final adsjustments.
Also, keep in mind that the last PTR patch before S3 was more or less unchanged before live except for the removal of Morticks. If the current PTR patch goes live it will be a disaster.
If the release date is gonna be late, I am expecting this shit to go down with no massive bugs and such.
Yup. I think they're still doing tuning passes on sets to be honest. Uliana's Monk is a bit too strong IMO, Helltooh is too clunky, Arachyr too weak (can't even speed farm T10), Hammer and Archon probably ok but Archon has been neglected so long that it was a bunch of weird small bugs.
Still don't see the 250% IK6 buff, they'll have to check and see if that's too strong, etc.. gonna be here a while still.
- 21.08.2015 - if they anounce on Tavern Talk - there are 2 weeks
- 28.08.2015
- 04.09.2015
- 11.09.2015 - this is the latest date, after it season 3 will be longer than season 1 - they told it will never happen again
So my hope is for 21.08.2015!
Seasons should end on a Sunday, not a Friday.
Fingers crossed announcement comes in the next 2 days.
Taking into account the wording in the recent blue posts, the minor tweaks in the PTR patch, the fact that the official season 2 end date post came out the same day that the last 2.2 PTR patch notes were published, and that there's traditionally not more than a few days gap between datamining and official notes - my guess is now that the s3 end will be anounced next week and we'll see patch 2.3 go live in the end of august.
I really don't understand why this game has such a slow development process. Why do the PTRs last longer than a WoW content patch? Why does it take 3 weeks to tweak numbers on some item bonuses? Why even tweak numbers in this game? Something being overpowered doesn't fking matter

Why does it have to a Monday? 2 weeks notice for Season 2 came on a Friday, and the season ended on a Sunday.

But hey - in this case, I'd love to be wrong

I think the announcement is coming later tonight, they do have a few key tweeks, but no more real serious issues worth delaying any longer.
So it will be the "Play monk or die" patch if nothing change about Uliana. Or how to crush a good group metagame which only needed more diversity.

I still dont get why u ppl expect the 2 weeks announcement to come on a Monday, but ok ^^

It will be ready when metal gear solid 5 phantom pain comes out then I wont care about 2.3 anymore haha.
Since there was no Monday announcement, the current earliest release date is August 25th/28th.
Blue also confirmed (once again) of a 2 week 'ending soon' announcement coming ... soon. lol
