Hey guys, today I want to explain and showcase the mechanics of the new Season 3 legendary gem - Iceblink. I discuss the properties, debuff multiplier categories, synergies with certain skills and gems (like Cull the Weak and Bane of the Trapped), and show how it works on Ghom. Additionally, the chill effect lasts for roughly 4 seconds, so you don't have to constantly reapply it. Enjoy & discuss!
It is probably my favorite gem at the moment as for a Demon Hunter playing solo, it forms part of a critical strategy for crowd control (along with a Templar decked out with Eun-Jang-Do or Azurewrath + lightning stun and lots of attack speed)
I do wonder at what point gems that can scale infinitely will overtake it? At the moment I'm running Iceblink/Trapped and Zeis, but I have a level 57 Toxin and if I kept pushing it up I can't help but feel the damage potential it offers might at some point overtake Iceblink (same with Pain Enhancer).
at the moment though, that crowd control (and synergy with Trapped and Cull the Weak) just feels too important.
Actually I have a well rolled ancient Odysseys End so Entangling shot with Toxin combination might be competitive with my iceblink Windofrce build, but it is just so hard to make objective assesments when the level of RNG in Grifts is so high that the per grift experience varies too much to draw any conclusions
Yup, a lot of it is RNG dependent. Eventually yes 'infinite' gems do overtake static gems, but that's at a pretty high level. We're talking 70+ for Toxin/PE, and of course you need a source of CC like you said for BotT/CTW procs. I think Iceblink will work very well in a pure cold Nats/RoV build.
I don't think it would even need to be in a full Cold Nat's build would it? As long as you run the Cold Strafe and Evasive Fire you should be able to get everything chilled and still use Stampede for the extra damage with strongarms and the extra CC correct?
Been using Taeguk on my Nat's DH for a while, thinking of trying out Iceblink, but I don't want to lose the damage of Stampede/Anathema.

It's still a big QoL improvement. Cold Strafe only procs if the mobs hit the trail which they rarely will (you still strafe in range) and you probably won't hit everything inside of the EF cone. I'm not an expert by any means, just saying that I'll be trying out a full cold build which SHOULD be good into 50+.
