I am creating this thread because i am really confused about actual damage increase.
This is how I understand skill and elemtal damage increase. No matter how many items with skill damage increase or elemental damage increase you have, you will be getting that much damage increase. So with out any elemental damage my dps is 100. i add 20% fire damage on amulet and I output 120 dps. Now I add 20% fire damage increase on bracers and i output 140 dps. This is how I understand elemental and skill damage increase. Simple math you multiply your damage to the sum of all the elemental and skill damage.
But I have seen a few posts, threads, and in-game messages about how the more skill damage or elemental damage options you have on items the less actual damage increase you will output. So what they mean is same situation above but with the new bracers with 20% fire damage increase will only output about 134.3 dps. So the actual damage increase from the new bracer is 100%-((100+20)/(100+40))%
which calculation method is correct? If second one is correct why? I know all defensive options, such as cdr, are multiplied in a similar fashion as above but I thought offensive options are additive?

Your first calculation method is correct, 100 to 120 to 140.
When people say you get less they're talking about overall relative gain.
120/100 = 20% increase
140/120 = 16.6% increase
Both sides are technically correct, one refers to absolute gains, the other to relative gains.
