Hey guys, today I present the Templar Follower guide version 2.0, nearly a year after the first. I discuss the new best in slot items for maximum crowd control during those pesky rift guardian fights, along with some alternatives. Eun-Jang-Do, Ess of Johan, Wyrdward, Oculus, and Freeze of Deflection all make an appearance. In addition, I show the mechanics of some of the newer rings and why they're bad on a follower - like Arcstone and Nagelring. Enjoy & discuss!
EDIT: Dovu Energy Trap is an alternative to Ess of Johan as it will increase the stun duration of Wyrdward past the minimum CC resistance threshold for elites/rift guardians. Thanks to those who pointed it out!
People use the wiz merc for the mass vex, not the attk speed. The only annoying part is chickens dont display damage numbers or enemy hp bar, so u tend to walk into them as they de chicken.
They arent nearly as bad as people think with proper gear. Cluck cluck = win
With eun-jang the first priority is to reroll to light damage (not attk speed, it has to naturally roll with attk speed), i messed one of mine up earlier.

Do the chicken on Scoundrel actually do any damage though? Thought it was based off sheet damage, similar to how Nagelring does hardly any damage on a follower.
Im gettin 1.2 mil hits with my mercs chicken. But i mainly use it for the charm. Pretty much 100% charmed when we both attk.
Tcorn, not sure if you talking about the mercs cluckeye or mine. The bow was changed in 2.2 to do 500% damage and charms for 2sec. But you have to find a new one, you old one only clucks

You should also mention that the enchantress merc doesnt have to use 2h weps, you can toss thunderfury or eunjang on her and its pretty nice since she shoots so fast.
Anything but a dh should get the eunjang, you could get one on a dh but will probably get an ancient ik wep first.
I'm using Justice Lantern on my Templar for the +16 Block. My rationale is that the Freeze of Deflection procs (or has a chance to proc) when the Templar blocks, so the more chance he has to block the more frequently you will get freezes..
Also Azurewrath is a nice option until a Eun-Jang-Do drops, I have an ancient with 24% chance to freeze on hit, Honestly it has saved my ass on quite a few occassions. -and one minor advantage it has it it can proc against enemies at any level of health, though I agree EJD is much better overall if you can find one.
Are you sure that Intimidate slows attack speed? Because I'm not. When a skill or proc does this, it is generally mentioned. A 'slow' in my mind means movement speed, not attack speed.
I always assumed the slow referred to movement speed not attack speed (thus proccing cull the weak and BotT)?

You're probably right, should just be move speed. Point is RG doesn't go anywhere.

I thought about Lantern vs. Oculus for some time now, and I think Oculus wins out due to higher Wyrdward procs. The issue with Freeze of Deflection is it requires you to block (a chance to block) and then it's another 'chance' (whatever % that is) for it to actually Freeze. So the 16% block doesn't translate into 16% more freezes, but the 16% attack speed on Oculus DOES translate into 16% more stuns via Wyrdward.

Yes, I agere 100% with your analysis, of course I'm rolling with Justice Lantern because I don't have a Thunderfury I have an Azurewrath so I'm all about freezing stuff. And also, just to add, it is +16 chance to block on top of the 22% chance the shield is already giving. So yeah, it does not translate to 16% more, but it does increase the rate of successful blocks which will provide more chances to freeze. It works for me until I can get my hands on a Eun Jang Do ps enjoy your youtube channel, keep up the great work.

I was going to post a thread within the next week or so to ask if you could update the follower guide. Great timing!

I pretty much roll with eun, ess of Johan, bul-kathos wedding band, freeze of deflection, and unity on all my Templars

Funny, because a guy on the fb console group said exactly the same thing as you. He found 4 Eun-Jang-Do's!!! wth I'd be happy to just find one
