Okay so right now i'm a level 65 DH. To get to level 70 should I just do rifts/bounties on hard or what? When should I move up to the next difficulty? I know I need to get good gear before that happens but i'm not really sure where things drop/where to go farm. I've only had the game for 2 days so I don't really know much about it so sorry if these are stupid questions. Thanks for the help in advance!
- All item under 70 are worthless, unless they have a special affix. In rifts, you have double the chance to get a legendary compared to outside rifts. In bounties you get the keys to enter rifts. So, up until 70, I would only do bounties, so you have keys to jump into rifts when you hit 70. As a nice bonus, the only useful legendary you can get that you will use in level 70 (in my opinion) is the ring of royal grandeur, that can drop from a act1 bounty cache. So, I'd just run act 1 bounties until 70. I would even do them on normal to have more keys and probably more chance on a rorg, unless you can form higher levels fast.
- The suggested difficulty is where you can 1-2 shot most white mobs, and take 5-10 seconds max on elites. I did not do the math myself, but because the increase xp and magic find, this is the most efficient way to farm.
- However, (most) set items only drop in torment difficulty. So, while it might be slower and non-optimal, try to jump into torment as soon as possible at lvl 70. With the rorg, you will need at least 5 set pieces from the same set to get into the high end builds. That would make at least 40% of the drops you get in non-torment basically worthless.
- As I said before, do grifts as soon as you can, going up 1 level at a time (start in 1, kill until the boss, do a bounty until you got 4 minutes left in the grift, kill boss, upgrade key, remake game, repeat). In torment 1, toxin and pain enhancer gem are really strong, even when not levelled. Try to use them as soon as possible. Once you have your legendary gems, run normal rifts again to get your set pieces.
- For the normal gems, you will be using emerald in chest/pants(/quiver) at and game, and probably diamond on helm. However, until you can upgrade them to high tier gems (the 2 highest levels), amethyst in helm and diamond in chest/pants are the most efficient. By the time you start replacing the all res gems for dex gems, your paragon levels will compensate for that (put them in all res first). While levelling and early game, you probably use ruby in your weapon. Once you start to have more crit chance, swap to emerald in weapons.
- Movement speed is important. Try to get it on your boots and maybe in another slot early game. Use paragon points to get your 25% cap as soon as possible. Then, as you progress into end game items, you will probably drop it from all your items, only using paragon points (and maybe boots, since they often have no good other stats anyway) to get your 25% cap.
This is what I would think the most overal efficiency. Some people will say some spots are more efficient because of high mob density. While this is true for xp and maybe for basic gear (more kills=more chance on drops), you need keys for rifts anyway. So grabbing them when items are worthless improves overal efficiency in my opinion.
Also, since legendaries have higher stats than yellows (and blues), try to craft some pieces when you have plans dropping.
And most important: enjoy the game. I did write out the path I consider most efficient, but it is a game. As long as you enjoy it, you're doing it right
Good luck.

The best difficulty to play is the one You kill fast and don't die.
The more enemies you kill, the more legens will drop. One option is to do bounties and when you reach 70, you can do lots of rifts.
Read lot of topics about DH to understand what you look for and that's it.
Doing all Act 1 bounties shouldn't take you more than 10/15 minutes, so keep it in mind when setting the right difficulty.
You're almost there
So, what I would do:
