Thats the main problem with seasons in my opinion.Other than 1-2 new items per class it doesnt add anything new. Each season should bring a unique change to gameplay like leagues does in PoE.
I disagree. The main focus of seasons is for the players (like me) who spend WAY too much time playing and find everything we want in a short amount of time. No the items are completely min-maxed, but playing to find a different ancient version of my weapon with another 23 strength doesn't intrigue me.
But luckily we've got seasons. A fresh start where finding a legendary is exciting no matter what it is. We get to experience what it's like again barely being able to farm T1 at level 70, and the fun of progression as we can bump it up to T3, T5, and then into greater rifts ect. If you want huge gameplay changes to be interested in seasons, then I'm sorry seasons just aren't for you.
They should really do something similar to POE and not only make the seasons drop new types of items but also new types of game modes. Path of Exile does this every single season and it keeps the new seasons fresh and updated. It gives the game new challenges and new rewards to work towards.
Blizzard is simply lazy so they don't consider these things at all when in reality it would be really easy for them to do.
Overview -Seasons will always last 4 months with a 1 week break between each new season.
-Seasons will introduce 10-20 new legendary or set items.
-Seasons will have tiered rewards based on the level of greater rifts or challenge/achievements you complete.
- These rewards would be a cosmetic transmog set. It could be one transmog set with several different colors based on your seasonal achievement. (The sets would not be able to be modified so you can't change the color of them. So each tier would be a different color of the same set.)
-Seasons would introduce new challenges and surprises.
- Random uber bosses spawn inside of rifts.
- Cursed events inside of rifts.
- A new type of special cow level every new season.
This is just a lazy attempt at it. They could really have fun with it and introduce some pretty fun things if they really tried.
last season they broke leader-boards with a patch 2 weeks prior to season close. this season they broke leader-boards by letting 2 groups use sever and removing it right after for the rest of the community to try. last season they dragged s1 in the mud for about 5 months and this season they don't even give us 1 and 1/2 months. with ancient weapons being so crucial and the amount of rng they cram down our throats you would think they would at least give us the time to grind out our gear before attempting to push leader-boards. idk, i never expect to be rank 1 in anything but i enjoy pushing for top 50. and when i see how poorly blizzard handles the seasonal leader-boards it makes me rethink why i am even bothering... its almost like the leader-board means nothing to them, they just want to roll a dice and see who comes out on top, and they will say "that was cool". but a lot of people out there take the competition of seasons very seriously and spend a lot of time pushing to be the best (and even more people enjoy watching them and encouraging them to keep trying via twitch/youtube)
randomness is fun and all but i think there has to be some sort of consistency here if there is to be any competitive spirit.
season length needs to be consistent please. 3 months would be a perfect time but please give your suggestions on season length. the biggest problem here is last month we had 5 months to gear and a months notice b4 end, this season we had no idea how long it would end and only 2 weeks notice. no one was ready and now everyone will be scrambling to post their clears. give us notice at the beginning of the season please
IF you ARE going to make seasons short from now on than you at least need to remove the rng and importance of ancient weapons somehow. this can be done in multiple ways. don't let the damage range on weapons be affected by ancient roll. allow a way (that involved grinding with NO rng involved) to upgrade a non ancient weapon into an ancient weapon. you could even allow ALL stats on ALL gear to roll 30% higher, so at least someone with an ancient ammy can compete with someone who has an ancient weapon. (i think option one is best) (also i got my ancient weapons, I'm not crying cuz i didn't get them I'm crying because it doesn't make sense)
stop changing things in the middle of a season! if you mess up and allow something broken to slip into a season than you should bite the bullet and let it play out! let everyone use it and attempt to post ranks, or let no one use it and removes ranks posted with it.... there should be no in between, wtf? isn't that common sense?
just to clarify, i LOVE diablo, i have been playing d3 since vanilla launch and never put it down for more than 1month at a time. I also played d2 for over 10 years before that! I'm going to play season 3 no matter how bad it is. i don't want to just post blind rage on forums, i want the game to be better. and it has the potential, my thought is - if enough people like me post this stuff to show blizzard the potential than maybe one day they will live up to it.
i would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this that's why i'm posting my QQ.
I understand all of this, but what every seems to be missing is that season 2 was a mistake, lead on by the fans and their QQ for a new season. Blizz wanted to wait until patch 2.2 to launch Season 2, but everyone kept on whining non stop that they wanted a new season, so be happy you got your wish, and now let them run their game.

This embodies everything that is wrong with the community currently.
Seasons will be tied to patches, and are going to be tied to new content. That was the goal all along, but people whined that season 1 was running to long, so blizz rushed a mediocre patch 2.1.2 instead of just launching their intended 2.1.2 which is our soon to be released 2.2
In the end, fans need to just stfu and enjoy what blizz gives them, you do not pay anything monthly to get this new content. If you want to kill a bunch of monsters and look for that new piece, do it, nothing is stopping you. But if you want to whine and B**** incessantly like immature brats, you are just embarrassing yourselves.
I for one love the idea of new patches coming out every 4-5 months (intended goal) and the new season being attached to that (intended goal). This 4-5 month window is perfect for the grinder, the casual, and the newbie.
The problem with seasons is that they have to make a choice between focusing on seasons or focusing on getting patches out in a timely manner. 2.1 came out recently, but 2.2 is almost ready to ship. Lots of people are really looking forward to that patch coming out, as it will put new sets into the game that might get them to play again. Seasons on the other hand are very niche feature. You want to hit top 50? Well, only 50 people can be in the top 50. Should Blizzard be catering to 50 people or the masses? Why should 1000s of people who want to new sets and such wait so 50 people can try to hit top 50 on the leader boards? it really doesn't make sense.
Actually, what doesn't make sense is what you wrote. There's no choice between focusing Blizzard resources on seasons or patches. All a 'season' is is an exclusive leaderboard. Everything else they do, from items to class balance is applied to both. So no, they aren't spending any extra time because a new season needs to start.
If what he wrote didn't make sense to you, it's because you completely failed to understand it.
He wasn't talking about scarce resources being divided between developing patches and developing "seasons".
We're talking about the decision to synchronize patches with season rollovers, to avoid seasons being disrupted by game-changing patches mid-season.
Ancient items are properly good for the game, EXCEPT LEADER BOARDS. You're properly skilled and top 10 this season? Lets see how far you can get next season with less ancient furnace luck.

Hold on hold on, WHAT exactly am I whining and bitching about? I never once did any of those things in my post. Please, re read or read THROUGH what I write before you misrepresent me. If anything is 'childish' it's that.
Secondly, they never once stated that 4-5 months was their intended goal. Maybe that's what you inferred from their talks, but they've done everything but come out and say that 2-3 months is their new goals. The first season went on 'way too long' in their words, so if anything is 'intended', it's 2-3 months.
Please, don't quote me again unless you plan on defending your absurd stance on my words.
Season is an epic fail to start with. they better work on next extension or new game mod insted of making players start over and over trought the season without anything new except a few bad legendary
Seasons serve a dual purpose. The first is to give you a vehicle for starting fresh but also provides the benefit of carrying your items/gold/xp over to the remainder of your account. The second is to add a layer of competition to individuals for those that want to participate. Granted, streamers will almost always be at the top because of the time they commit to the game (or in some cases, the exploits they leverage).
I have no problem with introducing new legendary items to seasons as an incentive for people to play them, as long as they continue to drop them into non-season. I think Blizzard is doing a good job with improving the catalog of legendaries and benefits provided. I would prefer to stop seeing sets be the driving force to build changing mechanics, but it's easier to balance around sets and provide complimentary items then balance around individual affixes. This method also lets them spend time on new maps, expansions, and additions to the game (such as Kadala).
In the end, you aren't forced to play seasons, just like you are not forced to play hardcore. It always confuses me to see comments like this when they pop-up.
Why confuse you? Its a total fail. If you want start fresh again, creat a new char and dont use any of the ressources you got nor spend paragon points. The ladder is already know as you said by 24/24 streamers, nothing to do here. Carrying to your "main" pool? whats the matter if you gonna start from scratch again 2 days later? New legendaries are good idea, except they are bad for 99% and they should get them into non-season too at the same time.
Arent force to play season ? almost now, due to all the stuff they add to season only such as legendary gems and else. Their argument? "make season appealling".
Well maybe if you did smth good instead of this, you wouldnt need to make it appealling by releasing new stuff only in season.
All thats to say i will never agree with you who say season are good. I mean yes you can play it if you like, but what i blame blizzard for is they ONLY focus on season just to make them "appealing" instead of actually improving the game with the right changes. 2.2 is delayed by weeks, but it will finally be the only good patch in the last year cause new set and many other stuff needed long ago.
I agree with seasons being a total fail, and ill try to explain why i think that by making a comparison with PoE(i think seasons(leagues) are pretty good there)New leagues provides couple of things in PoE
1.Resetting the economy which im glad it doesnt exist in D3
2.Providing new gameplay elements(not items, gameplay elements,go search Path of Exile leagues if you dont know what i mean)
3.Providing a fresh start. For the average player that doesnt min-max to extreme, there are a lot more builds in PoE compared to D3 so a fresh start is more meaningful.
4.Early access to new items.
Lets look at D3 now
1.Early access to new items that may or may not be good for the class you are playing.
There isnt any other benefit for playing seasons. Its more than likely that you will be playing your class with the exact same items with the exact same build. For the average players ladders are also a joke.
EXACTLY
Now you see my point. I dont play POE, but i trust you on this. Totally agree on your view on D3, and thats why i say season are a fail. They just bring nothing cause it will be a copy paste of the normal D3 ladder, except you can compete (only for people who live with streaming) for top spot in the 2 st day of the season (after it will be way less great achievements).
And thats what i dont get from blizzard. I mean they are a HUGE company, and are betting a lot on D3 it seems (even port on console as it isnt a console game at all). I just dont get why the ignore the veteran's opinions on what to improve, and just do stuff on their own which result in fail only over the last year. And thats what i reproach to them
I just dont get why the ignore the veteran's opinions on what to improve, and just do stuff on their own which result in fail only over the last year. And thats what i reproach to them
I agree 100%. I don't play seasons for new legendaries. I don't play seasons for a fresh start. I'm not playing seasons looking for new gameplay mechanics. I play seasons for the competition. I can't really compete on non seasons because I don't have access to 1300+ paragons or a wd with zdog. I'm totally okay with that tho. I'm happy that all the really powerful and legecay stuff gets to stay on nonseasons because I know I can find what I'm looking for from seasons. I wouldn't mind if they released seasonal legs on non season or not. I wouldn't even mind if they released patch 2.2 mid season but left the new sets out of seasons until it ended. (Easier said than done) I want them to try to add some competitive spirit to seasons. Tend to the casuals on non seasons and let the people who play 24/7 get there fun out of seasons.
There were people with full class sets and ancient weapons clearing GR 50+ after like 48 hours of the new season.
If you are not there yet, you do not invest enugh time to be competitive. Still blaming the "ancient weapon RNG" after weeks of the new season makes one wonder what exactly you are expecting. The really commitet people at the top disenchant ancient weapons every day because they play so much. They swim in that stuff. Unless you are ready to invest that much time, you wont be anywhere near the top, ever, and should stop being delusional about it.

Did u read my posts? Lol. I AM swimming in ancient legendaries. I DO invest 12+ hours a day and I AM near the top. What's holding me back is the surprise ending to season 2.. I haven't farmed my trial keys yet because I thought I would have more time. And I don't think you pay attention to leaderboards very much cause s2 is about to end and a 50 clear would still be a top 20 dh rank...

You still have time to farm keys.
An end can not hold you back, it can only show you where you have not been fast enugh.
Why all I see is: "I dont have ancient furnance" QQ "I still dont have my ancient furnance" QQ... and so on? Seasons are fine, this is rng game, you are playing one hand bandit, nothing more... I moved from PL 220 to 410, I never had single ancient usable drop till recent, so my god damn whole armor set is nonacient... do I qq because of it everywhere I go, nope, why everyone else have such a need to, its rng, it suck, change game maybe?
Maybe I should rephrase since ppl think this thread is just me complaining about not getting items. Lol. I'm TOTALLY okay with rng. I enjoy it actually. I have to agree with comment about Ancient weapons. So if they aren't going to allow Seasonal Players the time to actually farm these weapons then what is the point in introducing them. There are weapons that take forever to farm. Blizzard knows this, they set the drop rates. To get an Ancient, it's now a 10% of the all ready almost impossible to find drop rates. They did increase the drop rates for the ultra-rare items. I've seen it. In just over a month, I've had 6 Kridershots drop. I only got 3 before the S2 started. But none of them were Ancient. I've got nothing against crafting items, but, it's way to easy to get a really good Arcane Barb Ancient. I'm not suggesting that I would come up with a build that would ever approach the Top 50. I don't play every day for 12 hours. It isn't going to happen. I'm probably 500 Paragon below those guys. But making the Top 1000 board with the right gear is something I would have liked to try for. I wasn't even going to attempt a run at it until I got Unity. As of today, I have the Follower Tokens, but only a single Unity. I've had 4 SoJ's but, only 1 Unity. Right now I can approach 40, but unless I get a GR with giant mobs of really slow moving Zombies, there's now way to finish under 15 minutes.
Under the S2 time constraints, I might as well forget about it. It doesn't even matter if Unity drops. This week will be a community XP buff. So, those that can do 40+ GRs, will be able to put hundreds of Paragon between me and them. I really hate the way Blizzard changes the 30 day notification to 2 weeks and claims that the 30 day notification isn't being announced. Then 2 weeks later they make the notification. That's a bait an switch tactic. The PTR isn't even over. At least finish the testing before you determine the new patch is ready. I don't care that they made the changes, but, the manner they are doing it is conniving.
