As we all know, the latest 2.1.2 patch very much so did not protect the integrity of the leader boards. Its affects were so severe that it made some builds completely unplayable, forcing players to either accept their current rank without any hope of improvement, or making them grind for new gear and compete in a whole new meta of their class. The shocking announcement of this patch inspired a few players by giving them a chance to grind out some ancients for a new build to climb the leader board, but it crushed many others, giving them the sense that all the effort put into their character throughout the season was for nothing.
By now most of us have accepted the change and are eagerly awaiting the launch of season two for a fresh start, but I still have some worries for the integrity of future seasonal leader boards. Previously it was announced that two new builds will be introduced some time in the future. These builds are the whirlwind barb and wizard build. What I am concerned about is will the same if not similar situation play out as in 2.1.2 when these builds are released? Anytime a change is added to the game, what is to keep it from ruining the integrity of season? How does blizzard plan to integrate these upcoming changes? If they could do it in a way that would not cause any technical difficulties, why could they not have just done it that way for 2.1.2?
Those two new builds come with patch 2.2. Blizzard stated that the 2.1.2 patch should've been the exception and they usually want to release new content at the same time the leaderboards/seasons/eras are reset. So... yes, the season 2 leaderboard's integrity is something Blizzard will keep an eye on. Note the recent hotfix as well.
It's not as if leaderboards had any kind of importance anyway, since they're basically just /played counters.
That and who abused most bugs. It's been clear since week one that the season one leaderbord is nothing to care about if you want to keep your mental health.
