I don't think it's the Templar doing damage as much as he's applying the DoT effects of legendary gems.

I thought followers couldn't use Legendary Gems... Or do they act as an extension of you and are able to proc the effects?

you mean templar proc PE gem? because i stopped attacking this boss like 50% hp.

Followers (used to) proc tall rasha's meteors, so I would not be surprised if they would proc the dots of your legendary gems, ticking for your damage. Only way to find out: next time unsocket your dot gems.

Yes your follower procs both PE and Toxin gems, and those DoTs will also be affected by BotT if you've got it equipped.
