There is a bug that lets other players to join a 1-player trial allowing that player to get really high keys (57-60 keys).
Here it is:
1. 3-4 players join the game.
2. 1 person put in trial key and everyone else decline so the player goes into trial alone.
3. The person in trial tp back to town and go back into the trial
4. After step 3, everyone else can tp to the person in trial by click his flag.
The game still recognizes 1 person is doing the trial and thus all the mob hp is according to a 1 person game. You're basically doing 1-man trial with 3 or 4 players.
Please bring this to the attention of blizzard. Had to paypal someone in my clan to get this info, thanks G.
Pretty sure will be hotfixed soon. It's pretty... silly.
Whats the highest rift you can actually complete? At level 62, dont you get insta-killed with the one shot jailers or various other ranged unavoidable damage cheaty attacks?
.
Quote from Taktics_Andrew And they where worried new sets changes and items will disturb the leaderboards... like anyone cares except the first top 10 with all the exploits you can do and broken mechanics ( me included, and I ultra not care about it). It was just another excuse to delay the patch... ever since the consoles came in I feel we wait double the time for the same patch. I rather they not announce stuff just a few weeks in advance, they just make people like me loose all reasons to waste dime in D3 till they come live.
-----------------------
I know I have played very little recently because I am just waiting for the patch. Seems pointless to play right now.
Season 1 it's a big fail in my poinion and i'm talking about greater rifts, these exploits destroyed gr completely.
So if they won't fix these huge problems leaderboard means nothing
I think most of us went in to season 1 understanding it would have issues and that this was a live-fire exercise of sorts. Of course they'll fix it, believe me when I say, they want to fix it before the new season starts.
It gets a little tiresome when every time a bug/glitch/exploit appears, all the sudden we pretend that this isn't extremely commonplace with an online game and we demonize Blizzard as too lazy and too incompetent to function well enough to provide us with an enjoyable gaming experience.

The problem isn't actually getting the keys and completing the GRs to place on the leaderboard, though some, especially groups with barbs fishing for Conduits, are already clearing high 50s as of Jan. 9.
The bigger problem, especially if it isn't fixed, is that players will YOLO high GRs, complete them in, say, 45 minutes, an hour or more, just for the sake of upgrading high level gems (let's say level 60+). So if this isn't fixed, players will likely be able to use the same method to obtain high level 60s or perhaps even level 70 GR Keys once specs are more "optimized."
Then you'll have players gambling on 1% gem upgrades on level 80+ gems by taking an hour at a time to clear GR70 from exploited keys. Not sure if that's intended. I sure don't think it is.
If ever there was a better reason to scrap trials altogether...
If they now just changed it to the system of being able to open a GRift at your highest achieved level (like everyone has been asking), then that would make the number on your GRift keys meaningless and 'fix' the exploit. Although I guess this isn't going to happen by Tuesday...

Yeah.
It would even fix several issues at once:
1) Exploits like this one
2) Players/characters being able to tackle rifts above their potential (i.e., everyone doing trials with DH or in group)
3) No more "missing rift keys" for your group when you want to play with your friends, with whom you cleared a rift before already
4) Not having to waste multiple hours on mind-numbing trials just to be able to play a weekend of GRs
5) Progression would be bounties -> T6 -> GRs and not an unnecessary, unrewarding "no loot" event in between.
And probably many more. Unfortunately Blizzard stated multiple times they don't want trials to go... we can only hope they make a 180 turn, as they did before (e.g., on the AH). This exploit is really terrible and demotivating, and removing trials would not only fix many issues and make the game so much more fun.

Four players get a key in trials, they do the grift, upgrade the key and then one player leaves. A new player joins. We have to do trials again.
Public Grifts are ALWAYS less populated than friggin' brawling games. BRAWLING games are more popular than Grifts. .....and IMO, much of that has to do with trials.
It seems like blizzard aren't playing their own game. No success of any kind. They somehow CAN'T understand that the current trial mechanic is beyond retarded and wastes the time of all players.
Jaetch, Bagstone, if you could start a new thread there and other people from DF participate we could get more attention, so the trial mechanic be out of the game in season 3. Let's hope!
Maybe I'm missing something, but I've always found trials take about 1% of the time of getting into GRifts, finding the trial keys in the first place takes 99% of it.

Why so much hate for trials, then?
You would need basically no gear for that to be true. Geared players can clear T6 rifts in 3-4 mins (sometimes even full clearing in that time) while the legitimate way of getting a ~GR50 key takes over 4 minutes. Even if you're "moderately" geared with a full class set and lvl 25 legendary gems then a T6 rift should take under 10 mins and a GR25-30 trial key should take you 1-2 mins (the last few waves take the most time). Also top players usually have hundreds of trial keys, often ignoring picking up more, that they have saved from farming T6 for gear/xp so they were essentially a free bonus for farming other things whereas doing the trial is a 4-5 min time sink with negligible rewards.

Right, gotcha.
We clearly have quite different definitions of "moderately" geared. Since despite playing 700 hours and 150 paragon levels my best character has nowhere near a full class set and no level 25 gems and can only handle T3, where rifts take 15 minutes or so.
I can see that the trial system could get pathologically broken for the extreme outliers who can get a trial key every few minutes (is T6 rift a 100% trial key drop?)
I see the trials as a nuisance. Nothing but time killing, non rewarding fluff. They are nothing like how a grift runs, so how are they a "trial"?
I agree with those that think they should be removed and should go with the whole idea that you can enter a grift that is at your level or lower. It would also make things simpler, particularly when 4 people have completed X level grift and want to do X level together, but not all 4 have a key that level handy.
edit: if there was a reward or something at the end of the trial, like a forgotten soul or mats or something, it would prolly make it seem more worthwhile

And I bet most all of your time played was in classic not RoS. It took me about 2 days (20-25 hours played) at the start of S1 to complete m6 with 100-150 paragon and 3x lvl 10-20 gems, another day to get them all 25. That was a complete fresh start 0-70 at a time when nobody else had gear to carry me and I was usually carrying friends. At this point you should be able to attain that "moderate" gear level in under 10 hours if you join random t6 rift games to get your full class set and then doing low lvl GR's very quickly to gather and rank up your legendary gems.

If the new patch is released this Tuesday (as many suspect it will be), the introduction of ancient items combined with other class/set changes are going to further skew the leaderboards I fear.
Personally it doesn't really effect me since I'm not really competitive when it comes to leaderboards or achievements. The game as a whole is somewhat disappointing to me compared to the love I had for D2.

A lot of those hours were in classic, it's true. But my WD main has basically all been post-RoS (I recall leveling him to 60 during the period post-2.0 patch but pre-RoS release) and he has almost 20% of my total elite kills and playtime.
I guess I'm doing something hideously wrong, then. There's no way I see even one class set piece drop every 10 hours, let alone a full set, let alone a full set where most of the pieces don't have horrible stats. I've gotten I think four pieces of Helltooth Harness (using two, the others have bad stats and the 4-piece bonus didn't seem compelling). Two pieces of Zunimassa's. One piece of Jade Harvester. I'd estimate that to be the fruit of maybe 75 hours level 70, T1+ RoS play.
So I should be leeching off random T6 games where I can make zero contribution, basically? Think I'd rather carry on the way I am and consider be able to farm T6 as being some distant "you beat the game, now park that character and work on a different one" goal.

But seriously, more proof that Leaderboards are kind of a joke and Season 1 a complete writeoff.
